Just a small note, cognate means related word (genetically - aka have the same ancestor) not necessarily similarly spelled or pronounced. This doesn't really matter as while a lot of your English words are borrowings, because they weren't from Spanish but rather from french can still be considered cognates. Yes it doesn't matter in this context but knowing the meanings of words is still important (:
