I've been a priest for almost 49 years. The most fun I have in the priesthood is a Q&A session with kids. A kindergarten child asked me what "in Christ" means. "Why do we pray for the people who died in Christ?" And I had a 3rd grader (a C student, mind you) ask "Why do we say at Mass that Jesus is consubstantial with the Father?" In 20 years, I expect both of them to have their own 1/2 hour on EWTN.

As a side note, Bishop, your knowledge and voice help me every day to deal with life long suicidal depression and anxiety. When you speak, it is as if the Trinity breathes Their Love through you, through your words of wisdom and gentle voice. As a fellow philosopher by profession, I cannot get enough of your theological discussions so enriched by phenomenology. God is using you to save many, and most of all, to bring them to an understanding of Who God is, albeit in a finite way, so that we may come to love God infinitely. Thank you Bishop.

The question asking if God could have saved us any way other than Jesus dying on the cross, I humbly would like to share my input and that is, that, by allowing Jesus to die on the cross, God made the ultimate sacrifice any parent would do: letting your child die, and die a horrible death. He proved, by allowing it to happen, the extension of his love for us by letting His own son die like that. His ultimate proof of love for us.

My humble answer for why God waited so long to come among us? He waited for another created human being to exercise its free will /fiat , that will say a complete full yes to his will and design. He then found one in the person of a woman, 2000 years ago , who would satisfied his desire completely . That human created being was Mary his mother that lived out that yes to him to the very end of time. She was solitary here, one of a kind, unrepeatable in time.

The longer it’s taking, the better it’s going to be. God is getting you prepared for the blessing He’s already prepared for you. When it’s taking a long time, that’s because the blessing is bigger than you can handle right now. He’s getting you stronger, more mature, more confident. He’s getting other people in place. He’s doing a work in them. Don’t be discouraged because it’s been dark a long time; that’s a sign that God is about to do something that you’ve never seen. It’s going to be bigger, more rewarding, more fulfilling than you’ve ever imagined.

Thanks and God bless you Bishop Barron for engaging the kids in these deep conversations! Rosemary's question (can God die?) made me think of an analogy that I hope can help listeners as we grapple with these deep questions. Think of a wealthy person that decides to keep his/her wealth but live with the homeless in order to take on that life and help them. The wealthy person doesn't stop being wealthy by living with the homeless, but is homeless by virtue of the fact that he/she has assumed that life. To go back to Rosemary's language: the wealthy person didn't "die" as a wealthy person (still has his/her wealth), but in his/her homeless nature is truly homeless. I realize that analogies are never perfect but it certainly helped me grapple with Rosemary's question and I pray it helps others! God bless!

In the parable Jesus told about Lazarus and the rich man, the rich man could see Lazarus being consoled, Abraham mentioned a chasm so people could not go from one side to the other, and the rich man asked for someone to go warn his still-on-earth brothers about the existence of unquenchable fire where he was permanently at. Imo we learn a lot from this parable!

Bishop barron, I absolutely love how you explain that God does not want to force us into a relationship with him, how could it ever be real love or real trust if it only came by the end of a gun? It'd be more like Stockholm syndrome. I could not agree with you more, my entire childhood the concept of hell was presented to me sort of like God's gun, and I have the therapy bills to prove it caused only harm to me and those around me. If there's a being out there that I could call God, that is love itself, goodness itself, possessing wisdom and mercy that is infinite, I don't see a fiery pit of eternal torment having any use to it.

The concept of this video is great because kids always ask the best unfiltered questions. Was the video intended for children? Did the Bishop actually expect the 9 year old to know what he meant when he called his question a Duns Scotus question? Do you expect these little kids to understand what you are saying when you use a word like eschatological? I'm 85 years old, I spent my entire working career talking to engineers and business executives and I would never have used words like that. Why use them when talking to little kids?
@garydefreitas99442 жыл бұрын
You know, I think for most of it they can understand what was being said. I think the Bishop answered simple enough that they can grasp a satisfactorily answer. I do also agree some of it may have gone over their heads with his references and understandably so. He catered for both young and old audiences.

I myself have a question : if God is eternal and never changing and took upon a human nature (Jesus keeping both natures after the Resurrection), does that mean that God assumed that human nature from before the Beginning ? That would explain us being in the image of Him but thinking that human nature existed before the Beginning is disturbing. Or i mightve just said the most heretical thing ever and if so please correct me.
@garydefreitas99442 жыл бұрын
I see God being in our image and likeness is not necessary in our physical appearances but more so in our capacity to love and be loved , after all , God is love ; 1jn.4.v8 and 16. The resurrected body we will inherit ,though similar is still a world off difference with much greater and hightened faculties to the decaying or rather getting old to the one we now possess. God has acquired his human nature only two thousand years ago but knew he will eventually after creation that he himself planned. Knowing and being are two very different realities. Its is said for instance that marriage reflects the Trinity but of course its not the trinity. Not the best of analogy. So God may have had his plan of love by becoming man in the "beginning" but for God, he always was present, always existed but assumed a human existence in time as we know it. The mystery is time is mainly a human concept , for God its in the now.
@jooosiaaas2 жыл бұрын
@@garydefreitas9944 thanks for the reply! Indeed time is the biggest trouble when it comes to understanding God. Especially when thinking of the Incarnation where the Eternal, Timeless comes into a temporal world. I guess it'll remain a mystery for us until we face Him.
