Friends, there’s something Hemingway-esque about Mark’s Gospel-something very direct and uncomplicated. But in another sense, he shows great literary sophistication, and you see it especially in this famous passage for today: the story of the daughter of Jairus, which is interrupted by the story of the hemorrhaging woman. Of course we read these as marvelous miracle stories of Jesus, but they’re meant to speak of the miracle of grace that still goes on in the life of the Church today.

From Ireland. I have just listened to your talk Bishop Barron. A few years ago my cousin who was 79 at the time. Had been diagnosed with a serious cancer. He had been away from the Sacraments for 67 yrs. A good friend, got round him to visit Knock. He said as soon as he stood on this Holy ground he felt a great "weight lift off his shoulders and as free as a bird". He went to Confession soon after and died a year later. His dear friend never gave up on him and has since gone to her eternal home.🙏☘️

This really hit me. I'm 47 now. At 19 years of age I sustained a head injury which resulted in a mild brain injury which prevented me from working in engineering. I've been unemployed for over 20 years. I've suffered with mental illness ever since then, as well as alcoholism. People are reluctant to want to mix with you when you're unemployed or experience depression or anxiety. Recently ive got back into hobby woodworking. A lot of my furniture gets donated to op shops affiliated with churches. I just hope and pray society may accept that I contribute to society as well as the average taxpayer. 🙏

I turned my back on our Lord Jesus Christ 30+ years ago. Spun on my heels back to him last January. Fell to my knees in defeat... crawling back to him. Oh heavenly Father. Forgive me for I had forsaken you, raged at you, blasphemed against you, denied you to those around me, raised my family and babies in desertion of your love. Have mercy on me my Lord. I will never forsake you again. Your will and word is on my lips EVERYDAY. I am persecuted everyday for it but I fear not. For thou are with me. I am here my Lord. I heard your call. Forever yours. I'm ready now. I'm ready to die in your name. Thank you Holy Spirit. Those gentle hands of guidance. God bless all my brothers and sisters in Christ. In Jesus name, Amen! ✝️🙏🕊️ CHRIST IS KING!

So relevant to what I was just thinking about. I'm an Illinois born and raised man. I'm living in Korea now, and there are so many who are spiritually dead around me. Especially in my workplace. It pains me when they ask me every year if Good Friday is Easter because it's the last workday before Easter and I bring in gifts every year. It pains me that some have thought it was an American holiday. I try to be the salt of the earth for them and to bring my faith to them. I pray the rosary three times a week for their revival. I pray each day, throughout the day for Jesus to come to visit them through the people and the circumstances they encounter. I pray that the seeds I sow will be planted in good soil and yield a great harvest amongst them. I stay in that job and I believe Jesus is calling me to be a beacon for Him to them. May God give me His wisdom and perseverence on this mission He has me on.

God hears all prayers, but He may not give what the petitioner requests. They may be fervent prayers, fire casual prayers, painful prayers, prayers of the faithful departed, or prayers from a person who worships many gods all offered to God, but not all answered hoped for especially no trusting in God's almsgiving.

Thank you Bishop... I have lots to write.. I am 56, an early retired Chemistry professor (28years of teaching in a technical institute). Very few memories keep coming up ,this is one of them. As a child of 11-12, during the Catechism class ( I was in a salesian school) the teacher asked us to illustrate and write about faith. And I drew this pic, the woman touching the tassel of the Lord. I remember the words I wrote . " If I could touch..... That's the faith I had... Unfortunately last year I lost my only younger brother.. and I lost myself... Alienation.. it's been a long time yet I couldn't... Bishop after a long time I am trying to listen to make up for the lost time. I started it a few days ago.. Thank you 🙏 Today is my turning point..

Jesus can you save my family who is divided by the religious divisions. I am certainly not good at coping with the injustice and loss of family faith, and the awful effect it has on my children, and grandchildren. Catholics and Protestants - Jesus please, pease, heal us too. Let us realise that your promises are good and true. Please help us Lord overcome the damage done to us by all such inhuman wickedness. I'll be Blessed but not my family - what kind of a sadistic cruel Church am I in? Help me Lord and especially my family. The pain is too overwhelming at times. Sorry to be human, yet it's true. Thank you for Your help, healing and Love eternally Amen Glory to God in the Highest level of Love forever ❤❤❤

The healing power is not just in the Bible: I had some heart issues and had gone to church to a ceremony where as the priest walked by, I touched the tassels on his cloak. Good morning Bishop Barron. The sun rises here after weeks and weeks of rain but today indeed is a great day doubled with your Sunday sermon to us. Faith is the one thing that sometimes I can see functioning in me but sometimes - it is not just there for me. I always feel alone with my struggles that even if I shout till the end of the mountains up in the sky I still feel no one is there. But as I said thank you so much for your timely weekly sermon posted here - I could feel someone out there believing and listening to me. I pray for you and all our church authorities to be always there for us to believe that Someone out there believes in us and loves us. May God bless you.

I fell deeply in love in college, and she left to pursue a career in Los Angeles, I stayed behind in the Midwest, and I have been cleaning toilets at a factory since 2019. I often struggle with guilt and feel my sinfulness has made me so unworthy sometimes. That i would be ostarcised from the faith, the real black and white scripture and dogman effecting me deeply. Lately ive been seeing this quote pop up a few times by St Augustine that the church is not a museum for saints, but a hospital for sinners. Ive stumbled across a video on Longinus and now this. Ive been on the brink of going back to church. I think i will. Lord i am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.

Bishop - you have a beautiful way of revealing that the Word is alive - unchanging - applicable always. God is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. This passage made me understand the paradox that there is no justice without mercy. God continually offers mercy after mercy within the context of the justice that unites us in right relationship with Him. It is apparent that you surrender your will, your intellect, your heart, and all of yourself to God - because your life is a light shining in a world where darkness so easily creeps in to blind us to Gods will and desire to be close to us. I pray for you because I am so grateful that you are part of the body of Christ with me - you’re a guide on my pilgrimage home. May the peace of Jesus Christ be with you - in your heart/mind and all decisions you make.

The sacrament of reconciliation is God literally returning to us after we abandoned Him for darkness. We are inexpressibly blessed and renewed. Peace.

To those who feel like you’ll be judged bc you haven’t been to church in a while, for 1) you aren’t there for them, you’re there for Christ and the Eucharist and His word; 2) if they do judge you in any capacity then it’s nothing more than a passing thought, no different to you walking on the street in town; and lastly 3) is that most people can’t even tell who have and haven’t been to church in a while.. maybe we can tell who isn’t catholic or not used to the mass but many of us see that and it actually harbors joy and we pray that the person continues to grow. I’m not saying that absolutely everyone but, again, the woman faced a different level of judgment

One of things you discover at Church is that a lot of people you were at first intimidated by are actually luke warm, and many of those you wrote off are the most committed to the Kingdom.

@@bethmcmullan7686 yes they shouldn’t receive for the good of themselves and we can offer that much advice but if they do or they don’t it’s not our decision to make bc they have their own free will and that’s something for God to settle anyways… them being in Church at all is miraculous.. these are people who most the time are deathly afraid to go to confession because they haven’t been to church for so long. You and I may be comfortable to say that to one another and aren’t afraid of confession, but imposing the statutes of the church in a utilitarian/military style to a revert would remind them of why they left in the first place
