Please pray for me I’m losing hope. My life living with lupus has it’s ups and downs. I’m in a lot of pain swollen joints, fevers out of nowhere and fatigue are just a few, because of my condition I declined the vaccine, and was fired over my decision. Since than I’ve been struggling to provide for myself and my two autistic children. My husband passed away three years ago, so I’m all alone. I have no family nor friends. Both of my sons are non verbal so as a mommy things can be a little more difficult. We are facing homelessness we have nowhere to go. I’m so embarrassed because of my situation. I have no family nor friends to help me, but I have nothing but Faith that God will provide. Keep Faith in Him. Please pray for us durning this time. Thank you.

So... I recently reverted to Catholicism, and during the past few days I'd been having difficulty with the Church. And I just came across two videos in succession: the first one of a Eucharist miracle in Honduras and then THIS sermon. Dear Bishop, I was crying after those PROFOUND verses from Isaiah, and then I started to laugh in amazement at ALL of Who Christ IS! That GOD, Who IS GOODNESS and MERCY Itself would come to earth and BE ONE with His creation, then become wed to us, and then take our nature into Heaven??!!! And then the rest of your sermon, also amazing at what GOD can do. That He would want us to be a part of it, like you said, "Bring Me what YOU have" and I will work WONDERS! Thank you, Bishop.

“THE WATER SAW HER LORD AND BLUSHED” - 17th c. poet on Jesus’ first miracle. At Cana, “when the wine ran short”, Jesus mentions his Mother’s immediate “concern”, since she is not only Jesus’ Mother, but ours too, ie, the “rest” of her children, “those who keep God’s commandments and bear witness to Jesus” (Rev 12:17). Looking down from the cross, Jesus refers to his own Mother as the Beloved Disciple’s also: “Behold your son.” (Jn 19:26). How wonderful when we too “run short”, our loving Mother is “concerned”, even before we ask.

@RedRiverMan
@RedRiverMan 2 жыл бұрын
@@8neil830 Yes brother. For starters, it was 2nd century Israel and I don't know if such an manner of address is culturally inappropriate in such a situation. In modern day spanish -and probably many other tongues-its common to hear young folk refer to their mom and dad as "mi vieja/mi viejo" and in American English it used to be common to say "my old man/my old lady" for one's parents. However, beyond the cultural...Reading it biblically-connecting all the scriptures and foreshadowing from old and new testament-"Woman" was the title given to our First Mother Eve in Genesis expressing her singularity as THE WOMAN in history/herstory.. As Bishop said, in the gospels every word counts and so Yeshua referring to His Mother as "Woman" in this monumental moment harkened back to Mother Mary's role as reversing the guilt of Adam and Eve by pushing her Son into His ministry-even before He was ready. God bless you richly!

It's interesting that Jesus thought he was supposed to be about his father's business when he was twelve and Mary had to reign him in, because it wasn't time yet. And then at Cana, many years later, Jesus thought it wasn't his time yet, but it actually was, and Mary had to give him a bit of a push to get his ministry going.

An excellent homily, Bishop Barron. About wine being a source of intoxication & joy arising from the union between a bridegroom & bride, which symbolizes the joy of the union between Christ the bridegroom & the Church, His bride. But another analogy which has come to my mind is, the water in the stone jar for ablution is needed to CLEAN the body, while the wine which the water had become, symbolizes Jesus' blood which would be shed to CLEAN the soul of sins!

Amazing things are up ahead if you don’t give up. There will be new beginnings, times where God pays you back for what was unfair, times where He catapults you to new levels. Don’t get stuck. Don’t let the sickness cause you to get bitter. You didn’t see it coming; it’s not fair. You can say, “God, why? I don’t understand it.” Or you can look at that frustration, look at that worry, look at that doubt and say, “Sleep on. You’re not going to sour my life. I’m not going to drag through this day defeated, thinking about what didn’t work out, who did me wrong, how unfair it was. I know a resurrection is coming.”

Excellent commentary, thank you. I would add just a couple observations. The third day for John is not only suggestive of the Resurrection but also of the third day of creation, the day in the creation poem of Genesis 1 when God creates plants with their fruits. In the poem the third day parallels the sixth day in which God created humans in the divine image. Humans disobey God by eating the forbidden fruit. The first effect of that sin is a rupture in the relatedness of man and woman. When John says that this is the first sign Jesus performed, he is saying that in the new creation God has healed the relatedness of man and woman. She takes her place beside the new Adam and her words "do whatever he says" reversing Eve's urging Adam to disobey. In the new creation as John sees it there is the joy of wine, the restored union of man and woman, the glory of God united to humanity as Bridegroom.

Over the years, I've had difficulty in coming to terms with this story in the Bible. Understanding the connection among Isaiah's builder's marriage to mankind, the criticism of the steward in relation to benefits coming later (despite common expectations) and why Jesus made this his primary miracle to stress the a priori of grace in the world is a relief. Keeping a figurative framework in a materialistic, secular empowered society makes it a challenge to overlook the misleading scientific assumption that water cannot be suddenly transformed into wine. I understand the good wine is the wine that comes later on, after fermenting---marriages between man and woman refine over time; the marriage between God and man also refine over time. Thank you for this homily Bishop Barron!

This homily is great in how Bishop Barron illuminates the fine details and how they enrich the story, and how this story speaks to the larger narrative of God's work of salvation. And just after the Christmas Season, we hear this Gospel, and celebrate how God wedded Earth to Himself in Heaven once again through the coming of the Son, Who manifested God's presence in the sign at the wedding in Cana. It's fitting as I mark 5 years since a trip to Florida, where I celebrated the marriage of my brother and sister-in-law, and then visited Nombre de Dios Mission in St. Augustine, on the site where the first Mass was celebrated in what is now the USA.

Fantastic homily as always! Thank you Bishop, for never dumbing down the Scriptures, but explaining them in a way that ordinary people, like me, can understand. Beautiful!

since we are human we have a hard time listening and doing what God wants us to do. It's that free-will. God gives us this, but still I love going against MY free-will. Only we can control our own. We don't control others. But we pray for others

Thank you for this illuminating homily on this subject. In 72 years I have listened to many discussions on this topic but none with the clarity and revelation of the hidden meanings that you provided today. A deepest appreciative "Thank you," Bishop.

At a wedding... a wonderful place for Jesus to manifest his divinity... and as you explain Bishop Barron, one should read in this story, its higher signification... 'our builder at work... also announcing his resurrection'. Thank you for explaining Jesus' divinity... by compressing time... water, transformed into wine.

What a beautiful and enlightening reflection on the wedding at Cana. The first reading of the messiah wanting to marry his people and his changing water into wine has so much richness in thé readings. I always listen to your homily before attending mass to help me listen to the readings with more attention. Thank you Bishop Barron. God bless your ministry at Word on Fire.
