This is the most important message. It sickens me to no end to see all the "Christian" sermons, podcasts, youtube channels (Protestant, Catholic, and Eastern Orthodox alike) dedicated to the project of tearing each other down on theological technicalities--effectively enlisting themselves in the service of the scatterer the Bishop talks of. I admire the Bishop's courage in resisting the current and speaking up for the real substance of Jesus' message, which is, among other things, one of unity.

I have also noticed KZbinrs from different denominations discuss the minutiae of dogmatic differences. I agree that dogma is important, but it should not be used as a weapon to create further scism; after all, who can fathom the mind of God. We are just starting to understand the structure of space-time that is the basis of creation and we still have no idea how it actually works. Who dares to say they comptehend? In the meantime we wield arguments that divide us. This is plain pride and arrogance. Let there be ine Holy Catholic Apostolic Church that is driven by the Spirit, and let's stop bickering over whose ideas should be imposed. God bless all children of the One Living God!

the problem with uniting with other Christians and brushing off doctrinal differences, does great harm because the way they view salvation and the way The Catholic Church views salvation, is different enough that it matters who is right and who is not. Why, because, since the sacraments are the ordinary means of salvation, and since protestants do not for instance, have The Sacrament of Confession, or the Eucharist, it's more difficult for them to get to Heaven. So yes, we can be united in charitable works, in prayer, and in friendship with them, but that's it. Doctrine matters; The Catholic doctrine was inspired by The Holy Spirit. Protestant doctrine such as salvation by faith alone or scripture alone, was inspired by heretics.

Bishop Robert Barron, you hit the nail on the head with this sermon! I pray & hope that a good number of parishioners lister to this vlog! Blessed Sunday!

Somehow, the Gospel passage for this Sunday reminds me of another Gospel passage when Jesus talks with the Apostles about how they're wrongly getting jealous for His sake. Certainly, there could also be a connection with the recent Gospel passage when the Apostles argue about who's the greatest, as in the passage this Sunday, they think they're greater and so try to stop someone casting out a demon in His name. There's so much wisdom in this homily, and the idea that we should step back and humbly acknowledge that those who are "new" or "outsiders" can offer us so much, and we should acknowledge them. God's Spirit is indeed at work in such broad ways. By the way, since we're on a 3-year cycle, these passages were proclaimed 9 years ago at the World Meeting of Families Concluding Mass in Philadelphia.

And this is the message which we have heard from him, and announce unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.” (1 John 1.1-5)

I loved this sermon. I think it can be spread to all of Jesus's church, the Catholics and the Protestants. There is this constant argument on the internet. The Protestants often proclaim that the only way to be saved is by saying the exact words they say, to accept Jesus as my Lord and Savior. I have joined in and tried to explain that we are all followers of Jesus. We say many of those words in our profession of faith and as we pray for the forgiveness of sins. They get hung up on us asking all of the angels and saints to pray for us. They are adamant that Mary was just an ordinary woman and we honor her which is a sin. They say we are going to hell because we have statues of Jesus and the saints. They say that is idol worship. I have tried to defend Catholicism and explain that we ask Mary and the Saints to pray for us. I think it makes Jesus happy that we honor his mother. Then they will say she is not His mother. God doesn't have a mother. I can picture Jesus rolling His eyes at the pettiness. We are all on the same team. We are all fighting against the same evil. I don't think they understand this. If famous Protestant preachers would help to explain we have some minor differences but we all love Jesus and we are one family in Christ that could only make Jesus happy. The same is true for Catholic priest. But my personal opinion is that Catholics are more accepting of them. We don't sit in church and criticize them. I don't think I make much of a difference though. We need Priests and Preachers to help bring us together. That I think is what Jesus thinks is important.
