Darrel thanks so much mate for the type on how to fix the Divi so we can use the classic editor. You would not believe the stress you have saved so many of my non technical clients who like to be able to make small changes to their sites. Oh and me to I do not like the visual builder hahahaha #solutions

Darrel, People always will resist change. I think Guttenberg was a result of direct competitors like Squarespace, Wix, Weebly, Shopify etc. These newer platforms make it easy to build websites using drag and drop elements. It's makes sense for WordPress to integrate this same design technology into it's tool chest. By the way a lot of pluggins really are just WP hacks or works around if you really think about it. developers are copying other devs codes and re-selling or re marketing tools and functions as well. I agree it's kind of an uncontrolled mess in this regard, and a major distraction to some level when working with WP for beginners. There's thousands of options, and hundreds of people pushing different products/plugins. But it also allows WP to evolve and grow faster as well.

The biggest problem with Gutenberg was too much change too fast. Many log on to create or update and ended up wasting a lot of time or giving up because everything wasn't easy to find and they don't have the time to waste like you might. I played with it for a month, hate it. I have to do more and take longer just to do a simple page than I had in the past. Installed classic and no more wasted time.

Gutenberg is a good idea, the problem is that they forced it on us. People should be given the choice to accept it or not. Have it as a default plugin where people can delete it if they don't want it rather than having it in the core.
@darrelwilson6 жыл бұрын
i agree, i dont think a few people should decide these things either
@Moximaxius6 жыл бұрын
@@darrelwilson It's already a thing known as ClassicPress which is a modified and enhanced version of WordPress (without Gutenberg) only issue is it may fall behind as developers may stop ensuring plugins work with the old back-end editor.

Agreed, I think gutenberg 5.0 was a rushed, mismanaged and irresponsible update. I mean they should have tested it with other themes or plugins prior launch. Why launch a buggy update that will cause a ton of websites to crash. Also after updating you need to install classic editor just to find issues in your website, why. Wordpress interface deserved an update or overhaul but not like this. Wordpress is still considered a favorite CMS but future users may consider of finding other alternates because of this.
@lhotse543216 жыл бұрын
Your opinion about the situation in WordPress is absolutely relevant. Clear and simple. Very very interesting video, everything was said and perfectly explained. It's good to hear that, and i think the same. Gutenberg was a necessary evolution and almost natural but the decision was taken without consensus, and this proves that the development of the WordPress core is "centralized". WordPress is by its immense and international use become software whose core developers must take into consideration the opinions of thousands of developers all around the world. Obviously this idea of total decentralization is probably utopian since there is no precedent in the history of computing. WordPress is an ongoing experience, and the most important thing for me is that there must always be a completely free version. Gutenberg will be a competitor of Divi or Elementor in a few years, and it will probably be free. So Gutenberg is a step towards free, see things positively. But I share your opinion on the heresy of leaving the power of decision in the hands of a few developers related to Wordpress.org.

Hi Darrel, thanks for your video. De-activating all the plugins and re-activating one at a time to see which is conflicting with your page builder is really a pain. I agree with you. My 2 cents on Gutenberg: both my two websites were updated to Gutenberg (I had no choice). I have now been using the Gutenberg editor for the past 3 weeks and I am pleased to report that I am quite impressed with Gutenberg. As you stated "it is a better editing experience". I am not going back to the classic editor, I am very happy to continue with Gutenberg. Again, thanks for your video. TT

How about a video addressing plugins that aren't working like Elementor. They refuse to fix the url link in the Button icon you drag into a page. It doesn't work in the Paid or Free version of elementor. A pretty useful feature that doesn't work I would say. Many complaints out there on this not working. Maybe you could address a fix for this in one of your GREAT VIDEOS! Thanks.

Isn't WordPress Open Source though, with many devs volunteering their time to contribute to core? So can it really be said that it is Matt's product? I really don't understand the relationship between Auttommatic and WordPress.org, just trying to learn here.
@angius6 жыл бұрын
The fact that developers can contribute to a public repo, doesn't mean the repo owner has to merge their pull requests. Contributions to the core are also stifled due to Wordpress' obsession with backwards compatibility. The entire codebase is procedural spaghetti of a PHP mess, because it has to run on ancient PHP versions.
@mattsheekstri6 жыл бұрын
@@angius Thank you. What would you suggest as an alternative to WP? I've been looking at Joomla and Webflow.
@angius6 жыл бұрын
@@mattsheekstri I'm rather fond on Grav myself. That, or a self-written solution. If you need a more complete CMS, I have good memories of PHP Fusion, no idea how it's doing nowadays, though.

Why shouldn't theme- and plugin creators be able to charge for a license of their product? As you are complaining over that Elementor asks you to buy a license.
@marcindomanski56545 жыл бұрын
Making changes only for changes is not good idea. Very simple example. You have text in text file. You copy this text to Gutenberg Editor. In editor you make some changes. Now you want copy all text back to text file. You press Ctrl + A / Ctrl + C and... this not working. You must select special action in hidden menu. And if you click "copy all content" in this menu, you get you text with additional tag mess. This is simple and very common situation and now this is a loot harder to do that before.

Seeing the kind of spaghetti code that's used to hold Wordpress' backend with spit and string, I don't think they necessarily care about anything besides "but the UI is clean".
