I would like to add the word "it girl", it does not mean "pretty girl", it does not mean "all rounder", it does not mean "charismatic" and it definitely isn't a subjective expression. In Korea, an It girl is (and has always been) the idol/ artist with most brand deals, which is completely quantitative and there's no room for personal opinions. The 3rd gen It girl was Jennie, the 4th gen It girl is Wonyoung. It doesn't matter if you don't like them or if you think they're not pretty or talented. An it girl is the most popular girl IN KOREA, you see her everywhere in ads, shows, magazines, etc. STOP CALLING EVERY PRETTY OR ALL ROUNDER IDOL AN IT GIRL, or what's worse, demeriting, insulting, and making fun of the real it girls just because you don't like them.

i dont really think so cuz it girl in the context kpop fans use it is most similar to the way tiktok did in its “that girl” trend- the it girl is a girl with clear skin, smooth and shiny hair, soft lips, and enviable posture/movement. the it girl is the girl who many girls want to be. the it girl often has a lot of brand deals for her reputation, but that’s not what defines her.
@Aelita___3 ай бұрын
@fishiefish2249 Yeah no, read my comment again. In kpop context, korean context, the it girl is the most popular. How do you quantify that? With the brand deals. Obviously, the girl with most brand deals is not going to have bad skin, ugly, and a bad figure or posture. But just because you are a physically attractive and popular idol, it doesn't mean you're an It girl. And I'm talking about idols or artists, not "the high school It girl", which, by the way, the mainstream idea of It girl developed from the korean It girl (because all of them shared certain desirable features)

@@Aelita___ Brand deals can't really quantify popularity as much. Someone with less brand deals can be more popular than someone with more brand deals. These days companies just buy kpop idols brand deals. Popularity can be quantified by ig fans, influence, hate, etc.

I don't know, but the issue of hating idols over Starbucks or McDonald's has always felt like selective activism to me. I remember it started with Somi because, ofc, she was the perfect target unlike many groups, she lacks a big fandom, so I saw in real-time the amount of racist comments with thousands of likes she received. It was normalized to say anything misogynistic about her, and even though I never liked Somi, I'm glad I didn't participate in that. This is just a witch hunt where most of the targeted people were female idols because I never saw such hate train when a male idol promoted Starbucks or other brands. I also remember when they attacked WY for holding a Starbucks cup that her staff gave her (It happened on X, but the good thing is that it didn't spread further). Ppl started hating on her, calling her a "pick me," and making comments like, "This is why I've always hated this pick me." From then on, I knew it was a witch hunt against idols just to attack the ones K-pop fans hated the most. I'm tired of K-pop fans turning everything into a fanwar. They think that by hating or attacking idols, they are doing some kind of charity work when they really don't care about the real issue and aren't doing anything productive to help in a good way. One of the most affected nowadays is Yunjin, and unfortunately, it's because many saw her as a relatable idol, but that's no reason to harass and hate someone.

Regarding the "constructive criticism": Even if you manage to formulate valid criticism without any insults, it's not automatically constructive. In order for criticism to be constructive, it must include information that can potentially help to improve. Things like "Her vocals are bad" or "His performance is lacking" might be valid criticism, but aren't constructive at all. Then again, actually constructive criticism often requires a certain amount of expertise or insight into preparations and production. Therefore it's not always possible for someone to give constructive criticism, but please, don't pretend your criticism is constructive when it isn't. Criticism doesn't always need to be constructive, especially when it's supposed to be read by other viewers/listeners instead of the artists and their production team.

You could tell that the idol could’ve sounded better if they changed their techniques. Or tell that they need to sing in the range they’re comfortable with, yet they would really improve if they practiced about the current range they are supposed to sing. Same with dancing and rapping, instead of calling an idol bad things for not being able to rap that good or dance that good, you could focus on the point that they could improve by practicing their flow! I agree with every topic except the overperforming/overdancing thing, I know it's not a topic to hate but in my opinion the way you dance and express yourself is part of controlling your own body and there are a lot of idols who obviously want to stand out more than others in a saturated industry. It doesn't have to do with whether you dance better or not but a lot of idols clearly think that by overperforming they will be more praised than others. An example of dancing correctly is Momo or Lisa, they dance perfectly to the rhythm of their groups because they don't want to stand out even if they are masters at dancing, they can control their dances and adjust to their groups and let's not act like a lot of kpopers aren't using overperforming of their favs to attack other groups, I remember that MAMA collaboration between Newjeans, IVE and Lesserafim. Kyujin was clearly overdancing during Hype Boy and many NMIXX fans and non-fans alike attacked the other girls especially saying "it's not her fault that your girls can't dance" and dragging the others because one of them overdancing, which in my opinion is not a topic to hate on but I can be objectively critical.

"girl dint even promote it like other idols" But that's beside the point. Even if she didn't promote it like other idols, there is a valid reason behind the boycotting of Starbucks. There is bigger issues that lies within that branch of Starbucks. It's not about the level of promotion; it's about the principles behind the boycott. And that comparison doesn’t even make sense. Just because she didn’t push it like other idols doesn’t change the fact that Starbucks is being boycotted for funding something seriously messed up. It’s about the issue, not who promoted it more. Yunjin could’ve just apologized and owned up to her mistake. Look at Jake from Enhypen-he was caught drinking Starbucks on a live stream and on Weverse his fans and ENGENEs explained the boycott to him, and he ended up apologizing. That’s how Yunjin could've handled it to avoid all this drama.

Personally, I think that a more appropriate definition of overperforming would be a lack of control in energy during performances, where dance moves and facial expressions are executed with an excessive amount of energy that isn't appropriate for the tone of a song. The example of doing lip bites during a performance of likey seems more like an issue of not understanding the producer's or songwriter's intention behind the mood they wanted the song to convey. Although both issues are similar, they equally are slightly different.

I don’t go to Starbucks to begin with, but I never boycotted McDonald’s. I live in a very rural area where you can count the number of places to eat nearby on one hand and the closest actual grocery store being almost 20 miles away. Not to mention, the McDonald’s app’s reward system is actually rewarding and I can eat a full meal for less than $5 using the app, compared to the $150 a week I’m spending on groceries right now. A boycott isn’t always feasible for everyone for money or time reasons. That’s why I don’t really give a damn if Yunjin drinks her green mermaid coffee. She can have as much as she wants

Finally, someone is talking about the Zionism issue despite the threat of being bullied, bashed and canceled. I wish there were no wars and I know that this has been going on for decades. Innocent people are suffering from BOTH SIDES, not just on the P'tine side the way it's often portrayed by these activists. Let's talk about the most recent events in Oct 2023 when P'tine bombed Isra*l killing and injuring thousands who were just attending a concert/festival. They also kidnapped civilians including children and have not released them yet. Did Isra*l retaliate? Yes, big time. The conditions in Gaza is so heartbreaking but note that millions of donation dollars have poured in. Is Isra*l controlling where this money goes? No, it's their corrupt govt's failure to manage and distribute this money. And why is the suffering from one side ignored while the other side is highlighted? And genoc*ide? It has always been the P*tine Ham*s side that have openly declared that it is their goal to eliminate a whole people group from the face of the earth. Activists say get educated? Yes, please educate yourselves before getting heated over what an idol drinks or eats.

But honestly ahyeon was overperforming during like that era. In their other era it's fine because even if she don't look natural to me sometimes she still fitting the vibe of the song and it hype everyone up. But in like that era, it's more calm, elegant and she still dance and do facials expressions like in sheesh era when it's a totally differents concept. She doesn't fit the concept at all, and it affect the global picture of the group because like that era isn't focused as much on hyping and exciting the crowd like sheesh so she cant look like a soloist on stage. For exemple lisa or jennie from bp in the pretty savage, kill this love, typa girl era should not perform like in lovesick girl or dont know what to do era and they don't(and this is why we can say they have good stage presence) . This is just called professionalism, it come with time and i'm sure that ahyeon will learn it with the years and experience, and it's difficult but i wish her all the luck. For San, like you said, i don't think he is overperforming, because the concept of ateez need so much energy, power, facials etc. And he is very good at it he is incredible on stage. For the all rounder thing i totally agree! Like nowadays everyone say "oh she could be an allrounder if she improve this or this" but if it's the case then everyone could be an allrounder. And some people consider someone an allrounder when this idol dance like every others idols, rap just because nobody else in the group can rap, can sing three words without being off tune and don't have a completely blank face on stage. Like, come on, an all rounder should be very good or very above average at least(and not with the 5th gen standart 💀). And if they are not allrounders it's not problematic at all! Like some of the most talented idols (taemin, jhope, chen,seulgi) have their best strenght or are ace(but again it's very misused) and everyone know theur talents! The idols i do think are allrounder are: jungkook, han(they are the only two i can say they are allrounder for sure) and some with a lot of potential are yeoungeun from kep1er(i'm not sure about her rap, she showed it in gp999 and it was good but not that much after), yeonjun(his vocal and rap ability are still unclear to me because i don't stan boygroups but i think he is really above average), yena(she is very good in dancing and singing but i need her to showcase stronger rap to be sure), and bora(incredible singer, very competent idol dancer, and she showed good rap and writing skills and a lot of potential in gp999). For me i just disagree on the fact that yujin and rei are allrounder. Yujin really shine in her group as a good dancer and vocalist but honestly her vocals skill are maybe just a little bit above average. And it's her stage presence who make her dancing standout a lot, and her way to add variations, but gaeul is still better and even gaeul is not a standout in the kpop industry in terms of dance. And i don't know about yujin rapping skills at all. For rei, for me it's the same, she is just decent as a dancer(but not really good), a decent vocalist ( she is average)and a good rapper. So for me, nobody in ive is allrounder but they still talented. And i don't know for the others exemple you mentionned. But maybe there is some other all rounder i know that i forgot here.

omg i totally agree it's like kpop stans dropped out in kindergarten 😭 I do have a question tho; how good do they have to be at all aspects? Because I know it's probably impossible to be perfect at all aspects, but would you consider idols like Su A from Dreamcatcher an all rounder? Or do they need to have abilities and talents similar to a Lead Dancer, Lead Vocalist, Lead Rapper and center etc. etc.?
@soft4taeng3 ай бұрын
I would totally consider Sua an all rounder since she is a main dancer, a lead rapper and one of the strongest vocalists in the group. I think that as long as a member has solid skills in singing, dancing and rapping they can be considered all rounders (even better if they have great stage presence) but they have to be actually good, not just mediocre like some idols that are praised for being all rounders but are quite weak at what they do

Okay, while I get and somewhat understand your point, in all honesty, why can’t some of these so called idols not just associate with these brands tho? 1. I'm going to say it bluntly. Even if McDonald's in your country is independent, like mine and Korea's, it doesn't matter. This isn't about money; it's about the statement. By posting a picture of McDonald's, regardless of its independence, a statement was made. Stop being delusional, thinking he or anyone in Korea doesn't know. Have some shame. Even if he paid for and ate it, why post it? The reason was to make a statement.

Hey can we stop using the word “Zionist” as an insult? I’m a proud Zionist who supports the establishment of a Palestinian state and also condemns the Israeli government’s bombing of Palestine. Zionism is literally just believing in Jewish self determination in our indigenous homeland. It itself doesn’t have anything to do with colonization, genocide or oppression.

@@avalithgow541why r we supposed to support Israel’s existence in our land while we r getting kicked out of our own home? Excuse my poor grammar
@avalithgow5413 ай бұрын
@@balgowa132 because it’s not like Jews kicked Palestinians out of their homeland. The original deal was to divide the British, previously ottoman, territory into both an Arab state and a Jewish state, in which Palestinians not only would get 70% of the regions land, but also would receive majority of the natural resources, a treaty which Palestinians rejected. If Israel isn’t allowed to exist, neither should Pakistan, or Belgium, or Hong Kong. Why are we the only people who are not allowed to have a place in our native homeland? We tried to adapt to nations we migrated to after the exile, but we were never considered citizens of those regions and have faced persecution from every single one. Not to mention, while living in these regions all they would ever say was “go back to judea.” Now that we did, all of a sudden it’s “colonialism.”🤔 That is to say, of course I support Palestinian right to self determination, you are just as indigenous to that region as we are, and certain practices by the Israeli government, such as promoting orthodox settlers in the West Bank and the withholding of aide from Gaza should be rightfully condemned and punished. This isn’t an “us vs. them” situation, both groups have faced extreme trauma and pain, and both groups have chosen to commit horrible atrocities against innocent people. Instead of condemning the entire country, condemn the people in power, just as I condemn Hamas’ atrocities and don’t blame Palestinian people as a whole.
