Why does every teenager in these movies want to go to Harvard, Yale, Stanford, or Duke? And how do they get in if they're average in literally every way? Just once, I'd like to see the protagonist go to a normal university, one they could realistically get into. They can't all be "gentlemen of Harvard" (I hope you read that in an Armie Hammer voice).

Why does every main character in teen movies have to have a dead parent?!
@andreeab29484 жыл бұрын
My theory is that well realisticaly parents / family would play a more important role in the life of The teenage protagonist. But în movies like this I think parents are annoying for writers because they dont know what to do with them. The parents are not needed for the plot but they got to exist. Sso they kill one to make The job easier
@davie99444 жыл бұрын
Undercover Unicorn as someone with a dead parent, I completely agree that it’s annoying. Like, it irks me that these things are used as surface level plot points. It’s so common to see them in movies that everyone assumes that they know what kids who do lose a parent go through. I’d rather they either stop killing off one parent just to make it more interesting or they actually explore grief in the story a bit more.

These movies try to teach valuable lessons like “do what you’re passionate about” while also completely ignoring the fact that some people can be passionate about academics. Also the plot in these movies are just so bad.
@adiec57384 жыл бұрын
Also, colleges are portrayed to focus on extracurriculars way too much. Colleges that have academic heavy degrees put a lot of weight on academics. Great if you do other stuff but you need the grades to back it up. Otherwise, how will you do well in college classes? When I was applying to college, one of the things I was told over and over was to make sure my grades didn't drop towards the end. If you are "accepted" to the college (before a final transcript is sent to the school) and your grades start dropping dramatically, the college may waitlist you or decide not to admit you.

To be fair, it's equally lacking in self-awareness to voluntarily leave your dance team for someone else and then blame them for it. You may have wonderfully understanding parents, but not everyone has that luxury. My grandmother is strict about what kinds of friends I have, and sometimes I do have to lie about them. If Jas was the main character Quinn would have been the villian like she literally risked her friend's future by making Jas leave the dance team - that's equally important to her as Duke is to Quinn - only to start one with her who literally never danced?? And then in the end even leaves the team for a while cuz she changed her mind?? She seems hella selfish honestly and she could've just started a dance team without Jas if she was so convinced that she can win
@mommymaks4 жыл бұрын
jas left the team because she felt unappreciated, she made that decision on her own. so for you to blame quinn... you’re 12 aren’t you 🥺
@Mimiscellaneous4 жыл бұрын
HearMeRoar Even if she felt unappreciated, do you think Jas would have just up and left the team without Quinn’s pressuring and promises? NO! Jas would have stuck it out and sucked it up so that she could achieve her dream. Jas had blind faith in Quinn because she trusted her friend to care about her dream and she wanted to help her friend. Feeling respected was just an added bonus. Quinn was just super selfish. If she didn’t decide to get the group back together (which was a decision she made purely for herself). She would have cost Jas her dream, and cost Jake his job while she still gets to skip off to an IVY league.

The teen crap nowadays just seems so forced or out of touch. Like this movie for instance. @@wiplash123987 it was such a good show!!!!! I think Netflix is throwing anything at us as teens. It's not fair. We're not getting good films. Most of them are just romanticising mental health in shows and teen romance movies with the same storyline which makes me yawn. Most good shows which I love watching have really short seasons and/or stopped filming because of covid. These teen films are very addicting because they put attractive people in a film which a lot of people want to start dating etc.

i really hate the narrative that movies like this one and the kissing booth push about college and high school students. i went to high school in a nice area and i was in a lot of "smart people" classes so I spent a lot of time with overachievers and most of them were at least average looking, sociable, fashionable, and popular (at least among themselves), even the "nerds" and other outliers had more than just one friend. they were also focused on schools that were a good fit for them and not just aiming for ivy leagues(though a lot of them did apply) and a lot of them were fine with just going to a great school in state, especially because of financial concerns. i also hate the idea that all the work you put into building your college resume is useless if you don't have one quirky activity you would've never tried before. obviously colleges get a lot of great generic applications, but they can tell the difference between a bunch of activities you did just for college vs a few activities you did and made a difference in because you were passionate about them and that makes a world of difference when it comes to admissions decisions. i resent the idea that smart or high achieving people are so one dimensional and that the college admissions process is such a joke

Didn't even matter that my passion wasn't sparked at Harvard or Yale

I’m so sick of the “mean popular gay” character 🙄🙄
@realnookes64824 жыл бұрын
That’s a thing? If I’m honest, I’m tired of the ‘gay character’ in general. Like if a characters whole personality is their race, sexual orientation, etc, you just know that the writers are lazy and doing it for diversity points. Like the POC best friend if the main character is white. It’s rlly annoying and disappointing. Can’t anyone write a well written, gay character?
@drewsmith13834 жыл бұрын
@@realnookes6482 Lmao I completely agree. All they need to do is make a strong, well written character and THEN make them gay. They just make them gay and leave it at that, their traits are gay, their strengths are gay, their weakness is gay, literally everything about them is gay. Like sis pls no
