@Work Sharp Tools, this video is awesome! Defiantly filled in some holes left in the user manual! Only suggestion would be to revise the user manual to detail the things in this video. Had no idea there was a slot ready for scissors or that the edge guide had to be pulled out first to be rotated! Glad I watched this video to pick up that info.

I’ve got the original Ken Onion knife & tool sharpener and recently bought the grinding attachment. I’m new to sharpening with KO and really like using both cassettes depending on the job. With Christmas holidays and lots of gift wrapping upon us, can y’all do a new video with additional tips on sharpening scissors using both sharpening cassettes please? Thanks!

I just got mine today this thing makes sharpening so quick but I still really like using my stones this definitely makes quick work of knives that you get from the factory that sometimes have very dull blades especially towards the tip

Even in the video it seems that as soon as you get to the tip you have no more guide and you aren't going to have a constant grind at the tip if touching at all. Any tips for that?

I have a question.....the way that the belt is designed on the pulleys in conjunction with the knife guides....if you are standing behind the machine, then the belt is moving upwards. If you are standing in front of the machine looking at it, then the belt is moving downwards. So one side of the knife is being sharpened when the belts move upward and the other side of the knife is being sharpened when the belt is moving downwards. Is that supposed to be right? I thought that you want the belt moving away from you so that you are sharpening from the body of the blade to the cutting edge of the blade. Someone explain to me please. Thanks.
@Donny_Juanny Жыл бұрын
The angle of the belt remains the same for each side and is removing metal (sharpening) on that same angle. It doesn't matter which way the belt is moving. Hope that helps.
@IN_Bowhunter3 жыл бұрын
Changing sides and changing the direction in which the no it’s hitting the blade. For example, the belt would be going away from the edge on the right side but into the edge on the left side
@totallyfrozen Жыл бұрын
I saw that too. Looks wrong. Seems like you’d want to place the knife on the opposite side of the tool. Meh, what do I know?

I'm really pleased with this! It works like a charm kzbin.infoUgkxDcr-y2Pf6xdnrFHrSP7dl9kpKaCozcSQ Takes less time than my old electric sharpener because it can take more off the knife faster, and then it smooths out nicely with the finer grit polisher. I don't know how long it will last before the grit wears away, but I wouldn't mind having to replace it every once in a while.

Thank you for the nice vid but there is a thing I don't understand. I have the Ken onion and I've read that edge leading or trailing effects the burr but I can't reverse the belt direction so the right and left side of the knife are sharpened in an opposite direction. Is this OK? Should I be worried about it?
@WorkSharpOutdoor9 ай бұрын
In short no, you don't need to worry about that, the belt direction won't impact the sharpeners ability to get a knife sharp. Edge leading or trailing is a hotly debated topic in some knife circles we've even made a few videos on the subject. The goal when sharpening is to remove enough material to create a new apex on your knife. Push, pull, sweep, or swirl it all ends up at the same goal, a new apex for a sharp knife. Check it out kzbin.info/www/bejne/fGmtcoN7p9ieiLc

Ok, so I gotta ask, you can buy an angle guide for a small 1x30 belt sander, and use ALL of the same belts on it, whats could the difference possibly be?? Other than the fact that you can buy one for $50-$60???

What is the belt tracking lever for?
@silvergrizzly316 Жыл бұрын
Sometimes when you put a belt on it doesn't line up on the pulleys(off-tracking)so you'll turn the machine on and using the belt tracking lever, you can center up the belt on the pulleys.

From what I've seen in one of the videos in the Worksharp bunch: Remove the angle guide and release the cassette lock to bring the top roller down and forward to freehand grind the blade held in a vise. Angle is not critical to these blades.

I have one of these units and despise it for the fact of a Non Rigid Belt will never give a definitive angle, like a stone, or belt with backing plate. I realize it is always easy to place the blame on equipment, when the fault is the operator, not being knowledgeable with the machinery, not my case for this one. Function is simple, easy and fast. Blades do come out sharp in the end. I just can't stand looking at a "rounded" edge, compared to a fixed angle on a knife blade. Work Sharp must have realized this also, for many different models of sharpeners out there for improvements today.

WSKO and WSPA should work together. Grinding a new bevel on WSPA takes hours while on WSKO takes minutes.Problem is WS hasn't reconciled a flat grind vs. convex grind and hails both. Best of both worlds is flat grind profiling on WSKO and sharpening on WSPA. Duh.
