That first shortcut , we call it "product over the sum" in electronic calculations,like two parallel resistors...etc

My algebra teacher wants me to give him minutes when the answer has a fraction at the end, for example 4(1/3)hrs. How do I do it??

i thought you meant b=ax/a+x but apparently i was wrong. here's the word problem i was trying to apply that to. Working together, Paul and Daniel can pick forty bushels of apples in 4.95 hours. Had he done it alone it would have taken Daniel 9 hours. Find how long it would take Paul to do it alone. The answer is 11 but I can't get to it. How about you make a third part to this where you explain how to find the amount of time one of the two would take to do it alone?
