1) Determine if the pattern was standardized within the force. They usually are. 2) Realize that most of the time, it was the crews who applied the camo. They are NOT professional painters, usually. So they will be slop. 3) Realize that crews often didn't have access to spray equipment, so many of these patterns were painted on with brushes.
@workbenchhobbies431622 күн бұрын
Well…the pre-war 3 tone was a standard pattern and the historical documents suggest it was sprayed..but there are so many pics of hard edge camo it all got a bit confusing..so if you can work it out then let me know 😉🍺🍻

Why on earth would the first wheel's rim be polished down to bare metal?
@TheAlleyman22 күн бұрын
I'm just reading Doyle's book on the Panzer I and it says that the standard pre-war 3-tone camo was hard-edged. Some soft-edge exists but they we're clearly the exception. Sprayed camos can be hard-edge as both manufacturers and maintenance crews used painting masks. Most aircraft camos were applied that way.
@workbenchhobbies431622 күн бұрын
Not just that one. All of them. Very common for that to happen as the guide horns ran past the wheels. The sand and grit used to polish them. Just like the leading edges of the tracks. Check references and you can clearly see it.
@workbenchhobbies431622 күн бұрын
Yeah, this is what I meant about the contradiction info around the scheme because I’ve read they were freehanded. If they were using stencils they all be identical and I don’t believe that to be the case. I guess for me, I liked the hard edge challenge so I’ll hold on to the references that support that. Thanks for sharing. I appreciate it 🙏

Great to see such a multi-coloured "Buntfarbenanstrich" done... they are rarely seen in, but in my eyes a bit more pleasing than the standard Panzergrau... I will defintely keep this video in mind, for whenever I get my hands on a kit of the early 6-wheeled Sd.Kfz. 231 which can also be done in such a colour... though getting the masking done properly in 72nd scale might be interesting. Nice video as always and do enjoy your Christmas holidays (they always are a good oportunity for topping up the kit-cabinet 😅)!

As a history buff i want to state that it is interesting how the Spanish civil war saw the usage of ww2 equipment that became iconic (the stuka, the flak 88, and the panzer units). This is timely for me, I recently bought a tank model and hope to build it soon, it will be my first. I used silly putty to mask the camo on an airplane, looks like the "Panzer Putty" sticks a bit better.
@workbenchhobbies431622 күн бұрын
Great news to hear you have found your way to armour 😉 Bluetack and silly putty sticks better than this…but where this is better is it settles into the shapes and recesses whereas bluetac won’t. Just gives you tighter lines when spraying. Hope that helps 🍺

@workbenchhobbies431619 күн бұрын
Great observation. That’s one of the benefits of this putty is the way it settles over the model…it allows for reasonably sharp lines. @@workbenchhobbies4316 Yes, but i mentioned the grey brown scheme as tamiya gives blitzkrieg options, but in monotone grey. The 3 color scheme you used is the ''feuersicheren buntfarben anstrich'' from Reichswehr days, as i believe in effect from 1927 until early1938. I like it as it is far more interesting when compared to a single gray paintjob. and like the grey-brown scheme there is no set pattern so each vehicle is unique.

Would silly putty work for the putty? What paint do you like using ammo real colors?
@workbenchhobbies431621 күн бұрын
I’ve never used silly putty because we don’t get it here in Australia. I think it’s similar To bluetack. If that’s the case it doesn’t settle into the recesses and around details like this stiff does. Yes you can use it to do the same thing…I just feel this putty does it better. Re the paint. AK make the real colour range. Not ammo. I’m loving their new formula. They are essentially a similar make up to Tamiya…but better I think.
