I would just like to ask what does unit 731. Have to do with modern day Honda Because that was in World War II unit 731 happened under a different regime and a different philosophy where the Japanese were more imperial and different ways of thinking Which has no place in a modern day questioning because you’re trying to say look up unit 731 when we are talking about modern day Honda in 2023/2024

Well there a big difference between Japan and the USA over in Japan the workers take pride in there work over here with UAW workers you have people who take pride in there work and people who are just lazy and don't even show up to work and the union protects there jobs when they should be fired this causes the workers who had pride in there work to screw off to Quality go s down
@211teitake
@211teitake 10 ай бұрын
@@sabrehawk-427 Maybe that's the case but if there is a known issue, the union contract should address it. There should be a clause that allows workers to be fired for objectively poor performance such as being lazy or unexcused absences. I don't think American contract lawyers, employment law experts, and business management experts are so stupid that they haven't figured out how to write and implement labor contracts to weed out bad workers. I don't necessarily think it's a union issue but a management and labor contract issue.

It's capitalism doing what capitalism does. Costs must be cut to the absolute lowest level. Wages are a cost, benefits are a cost, headcount is a cost, safety standards are a cost. To the beancounters, everything that doesn't directly make money is a cost...well, except for executive "compensation"...and *must* be cut as much as possible. This is what end-stage capitalism looks like.

God, screw that plant. I worked there from 2012 to 2014. They were allowed to keep temporary employees for up to five years without hiring them. About 2/3rds of their workers were temporary. You also had to rotate shifts every two weeks. When they did do full time hiring, they made temps apply to the general hiring pool as well as their own internal pool. They basically drew names out of a hat at random too so they could hire someone with no attendance points left before someone who never missed a day. You had to reapply for full time every six months because they didn't keep records on the hiring pools. We had a guy have a seizure on the line while putting in sunroofs and had to shut the line down.

Piece of advice to any union organizer listening. A friend of a friend has conveyed that the conditions in the R&D facilities aren't much better. So I'm sure the engineering team would be very interested in what you have to say.

I work in a company and was part of the union for 5+ years. I agree with what the union stands for but sadly many people take advantage of the company with the Union protecting them. The protection from the union and the union contract can result in people having much entitlement without putting in their full effort. Not saying all the workers are this way but it isnt uncommon. This bad work ethic is why unions get a bad reputation. These big companies in turn will start outsourcing all the work they can anywhere else that will do it cheaper and if the opportunity presents itself, they will relocate the entire facility. Honest days work, honest days pay will keep everyone happy.

You never work for anyone. You should always consider yourself self employed and a business as your customer. You succeed by helping them succeed. When your customers aren’t making money, you find new customers. Never keep a job more than 5 years. Never ever tell your coworkers anything true about yourself or your life. Don’t use a mortgage to buy a house. If you put yourself in debt with large payments now you are always panicked at the thought of having to look elsewhere for work. Also never stop looking for a new job even when you’re happy with your current one.

Working at Honda might suck, but the UAW is a joke. They protect the worthless employees who like to lay out of work and they do nothing for the ones that work their asses off. They don't fight for the retirees either. Their demands have caused quality issues in the products and they have caused massive lay offs and job cuts. Be very careful what you wish for.

I had no idea there were _any_ automotive plants in the U.S. that weren't union (barring maybe some new startups). I used to work at a UAW plant, and the union did make it suck. But the union also resulted in shockingly high pay for very little work. I find it odd that supervisors at Honda are pushing back against unionization. Being a supervisor in a union is a perk, too. Your pay goes up because your employees' pay goes up. Your job is easier because there is a distinct set of rules that _everyone_ has to follow, and if an employee complains about the rules, you just direct them to their union rep. _And_ you aren't allowed to do any work yourself; you are _only_ allowed to _direct_ employees. The rigidness of everything is what makes it suck (no matter if you're in the union or a supervisor), but you can also make a good living for very little work (if you're into that sort of thing). Unions are a requirement because corporations are evil. Don't be evil, and your plant won't be turned into a hopelessly inefficient money pit by people who are tired of being abused and put in harm's way. Pretty simple.

@NoName-ik2du
@NoName-ik2du 11 ай бұрын
@@JohnnyD1993 You've obviously never been in a (good) union or didn't bother to read my comment. There's a reason for the stereotype that union workers are lazy. In my department at that job, not a single worker worked beyond 50% capacity. That means every worker had *four hours* of downtime throughout the day, every day. People had secret beds and card rooms set up around the plant because they had so much idle time. Workers there were also paid about $24/hour (in 2014) when non-union shops were making about $15/hour for the same work, not to mention the annual profit sharing bonuses that were thousands of extra dollars each year on top of the regular pay. Shockingly high pay for very little work is the only way to describe that job.

@@NoName-ik2du so far we've learned - Unions defend bad workers that deliberately hurt the company - Workers are allowed to do fuck all for half of their shift - Supervisors become individuals that demand respect, not earn it - The pay is shockingly good compared to the competition for the _expected_ workload What else would you like to add to your list?
@NoName-ik2du
@NoName-ik2du 11 ай бұрын
@@JohnnyD1993 Points 1,2, and 4 are correct and pretty much sum everything up. Point 3 is not. Union supervisors do not demand respect. What I said is they also have less to do in a union, so it makes their jobs easier as well. You may notice that all of these points are _in favor_ of a union.
