"And it's my railroad" love it. Play how you want to play. I never understood commenters telling people to play this way or that. Good job as always Kerbo. Glad I can start my mornings with a relaxing gaming video instead of highway traffic.

It's a good attitude to have because you can't please everyone, so do what you like and that will probably please some people!

In the early days, when (at best) cars only had handbrakes, you had no option but to use the locomotive brakes. Steep hills, the guard would walk down the train and set the handbrakes, to help hold the load. In the UK, the guards vans (caboose), had a red light to the rear, and white lights on the side pointing forwards - that way the driver could look back, and if he couldn't see the white lights, he'd lost part of the train!!

Bailing off the independent with every application of the brake pipe does 2 things. 1st, it saves wear and tear on the locomotive brakes. Depending on the age of the locomotive, the brake shoes on the drivers are big and expensive. The tender brakes may be the same shoes a regular car has though. 2nd, it either keeps the train in draft or buff. With a train stretched out, draft, the locomotive setting up with the train brakes tends to brake much faster than the cars. This causes the locomotive to run into the cars and buff forces are created, running in the slack. As soon as you accelerate it would start to run out the slack and create an uneven or unpleasant ride and with excessive draft forces you can string line in a curve. If you are shoving and have all the slack run in, buff, when you make a reduction and the loco brakes set, same as above but the loco snaps back starting to run the slack out. You apply power and release the brakes and you have to run the slack back in, again creating an uneven or unpleasant ride and with excessive buff forces can jackknife or buckle a train. Utilizing the bail feature saves brake shoes on the loco and keeps your slack run in or out and can prevent derailments.

Really enjoying the Railroader series. In addition to the ties/rail creaking sounds it would be cool if they had a few freight cars with flat spot sounds.

Been looking forward to another Railroader video from you. It doesn't disappoint. 25:55 'Back forward, sir' he say's, lol. As far as the bailoff, first a caveat. I am not an expert. I don't run trains in real life. This is what I've gleaned from other sources over the years. You would bail the locomotive brakes off whenever you brake the train. Whether thats coming down grade or braking for a stop. The reason being, if you brake the locomotive, there is a likely chance of... essentially running the rest of the train into it, giving the crew a good knocking about and potentially derailing the tender or loco. You'd bail the brakes off to keep it free floating and, to all intents and purposes, keep it on the rails. Or, as I've found you bail off to keep slack from developing in the consist.

My last play thru. 3 of my engine ran out of coal and water while going up to alaraka jct. which made me purchase a big engine just to get up to alarake and finish the job. One of those engines was the one attached to my passenger train. Ugh!! But I’m almost got alarka and will have an engine for that and my beast will be my freight. I do which alarka jct had water

I'm tempted to get this. Can you explain how the AI works. Can I pick up jobs and get the AI to do the driving while I do whatever... change the points, count the money....? Can you have the AI drive and just chill out and watch? Can you be driving one train while the AI drives another? So many questions! :)
@KerboOnYT10 ай бұрын
Bear in mind this is early access and things will change. Right now the AI is simple and has 2 modes, road and yard. In road mode the AI will drive forward or reverse at a max speed you set. That speed will be overridden by track limits. The AI will stop for another train in the way, signals, fusees, end of track, and switches thrown against them. In yard mode it's similar but instead of max speed you tell the AI how many car lengths to move. They are also aware of other cars/trains and will try to couple and then stop. The devs have shown a work in progress waypoint system and passenger train AI is on the roadmap, so more is to come. I hope that helps and thanks for watching!

Curious to see, unless I missed it somewhere, how do you handle the passenger runs after the Alarka Jnct Y? It seems to me that sending 2 cars each way is the way to go, but I can't justify 2 engines. Even the smallest engines are overkill and financially makes no sense. Maybe my issue is my OCD wants to run the entire length every day round trip. Thoughts? I'm on day 25 or 26 and up until now I have been completing every task each day before I shut down for the night, but to be honest, its getting rough now that I have all the extra miles.

@jiggyjim409810 ай бұрын
@@warmstrong5612 right now that looks to be my plan. Once the industries on each side of the "Y" start getting busier and busier, that may change, but yeah, mixed is the plan for now.

I’m curious why you haven’t installed the signal upgrades. Not criticizing the choice, just curious if you prefer it without or have some master plan going or whatever. As a single player, I find using CTC handy (although there are a few quirky things with them).
@KerboOnYT10 ай бұрын
At this stage I don't really have much through traffic. There's the one passenger train and the one mine run. Buying the signals wouldn't add much value for me right now. Once I expand more I expect it to be useful. Thanks for watching!
