Practising as a general or specialist medical practitioner requires a licence issued by the Ministry of Health and Social Security. Common requirements As a general or specialist practitioner, you must: hold a Luxembourg or foreign diploma entitling you to work as a general or specialist practitioner; satisfy the ethics, good repute and physical and mental health requirements applicable to medical practitioners; have the linguistic abilities which are necessary to carry out your profession in Luxembourg; General practitioners To practise as a general practitioner in Luxembourg, you must hold: a conventional doctor's diploma; a diploma attesting to specific training in general medicine. Specialist practitioners To practise as a specialist practitioner in Luxembourg, you must hold: a conventional doctor's diploma; a diploma attesting to a medical specialisation. You must have the linguistic abilities which are necessary to carry out your profession in Luxembourg. If your mother tongue is not French, German, or Luxembourgish, you must provide proof of your language skills in order to be authorised to practise. The minimum level of language proficiency required in French or German is Level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). I will make an updated video on this soon. One of the main conditions is that you need to have licence to practice in an Eu member state. So my advice is to complete your intern and have the qualifications to practice first. Also the language is another issue because you need to show proof of French language proficiency to work as a medical practitioner in Luxembourg which makes sense because they speak predominantly french although there is also German, Luxembourgish and English but principally french is vital.You may also try and see if you can do your intern or residency in Luxembourg maybe that may help your chances but again language issues. You can contact the Luxembourg medical board and some government hospitals in Luxembourg for more insights. All the best. Nuel

There are two ways to do that. You can either check the advertised position or apply as a self-paid student. Luxembourg is one of the best universities in the EU and globally. I did my second master's at the University of Luxembourg in Integrated Systems Biology, and most of our practicals were at the LCSB ( Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biology), which often advertises new PhD positions. I don't know if they will take you directly into a PhD with MBBS, or you may need a master you will have to check that. In my view, General medical practitioners are those who studied general medicine just like GPs, as they are called in the UK, while specialist medical practitioners are those who, apart from obtaining a medical degree, also specialises in a given area of medicine for example cardiologists, oncologists, endocrinologists etc.

One of the criteria for practising in Luxembourg as a general practitioner or specialist is that you should have practised in an EU member state. However, there are other requirements, such as a letter of ethics and fit for practice from your previous medical institution, language proficiency in at least French, etc., so you should have approval from the Luxembourg Medical Association/board. My advice is to contact the institution involved in Luxembourg first so that you will follow the proper steps; I don't think you will just jump into applying for a permit without approval from the medical institutions; there are procedures to follow. For you to work in Luxembourg health institution,you have to demonstrate evidence of French language proficiency. Alternatively if you to come as a student there are fantastic life sciences related masters degree programmes at the university of Luxembourg and most cost just 200 Euro per semester. Are you licensed to practice in the EU now?. If you are applying to do your residency and not to practice as a general practitioner, I think it ay slightly be a different process. You may check the Luxembourg medical board for more information or you may contact a potential hospital of interest where you want to do the residency for more guidance. However, apart from the healthcare sectors, there are also opportunities for researchers at the University of Luxembourg, where the French language may not be needed, so you could explore the University of Luxembourg's official job site.
