Just my opinion, I would have leased a bull. While AI is great for introducing genetics the conception rate is lower as you know due to timing. I do enjoy your channel and it really shows how you care about your livestock.

Thank you! And for sure, if I could lease a bull 42 days a year I totally would! Unfortunately I have no options for that in my area. The dexter breed already is rare around here, and the few other producers within driving distance of me that I have found are not in a position to loan out the only herd bull they need to have on their cows at the same time as I need him. I love AI but yes, it’s a lot of work and money for chance success

Great video thanks for sharing do u use a different bull semon for each cow or the same one

On the heifers (daughters of one of the AI bulls) I use a different bull. The 3 cows get the same sire each year.

Try a slap shot. Less likely to bend or break a needle.

I’ll look into it! Never heard of that

Love ur vids What are ur success percentages with AI?
@WR_Ranch4 ай бұрын
Thank you! Each year has been different. 33% one year. 60% another. 100% two years ago and 50% last year

@@WR_Ranch so why IR over renting a bull? I imagine insemination rates would be higher with a Bull. Saying that a “bull for rent” is available.
@WR_Ranch4 ай бұрын
Exactly that last point. Unfortunately nothing is for rent within driving distance. The dexter breed is not popular in my area. I knew going in when I chose this breed that AI was going to be my only guaranteed option.

When would your ideal 42 day bull rental start?
@WR_Ranch2 ай бұрын
Ohhhhhhhhh usually around July 4th or so? Unless I choose to AI one round and then use a clean up for the second 21 day cycle.
