I can definitely relate to the exhaustion of working full time and going to school full time. I spent 2 summers taking a full time class workload and working full time at an internship. I barely was able to get any sleep after going to the gym and finishing my school work, and it really killed my energy on the weekends. I don't regret doing this, but it was tough, and not something I could have maintained for more than a summer. Thanks for sharing your story.

What is the best way to get an internship? This is my first semester in any college, and I am only working as a Student Worker at my college... so I don't think I qualify for any since I don't have actual experience with Computer Science which by the end of 2021 I will have an Associates of Science in Computer Science, should I wait until then to think of internships?

I have personally worked full time in construction while attending a community college full time as well, from my experience it is very possible to do the first year. But now that I am taking high-level math courses, it has become very difficult. Im am now considering a part-time job for my last year here (before entering a 4-year). I strongly suggest anyone in a similar position to think it through, im of the opinion that so long as I am studying in the extra time im outside of work,I am simultaneously investing in myself which in turn will benefit me financially in the long run.

One thing I think will help for you college students: When the semester ends, try and get a hold of textbooks related to your courses for the next semester (they don’t have to be the same EXACT textbook the class will use, there’s plenty out there that are very similar). I know that’s too much to ask for, but at least in this period (like the holidays) you won’t have deadlines. Just try and skim over the chapters

Currently doing full-time college and part time work. Taking 21 credits (7 course - 4 are fast-track 8 week classes; 3 are 16 week classes). I don’t recommend doing this especially if you are doing a science based or related degree that has a lot of research work to do. Whenever I come back from work I have to stay up all night to work on homework and sometimes study until I have work the next day. Brain fog is unreal, with things that you would usually put more effort to, everything takes a toll. Notices the grades drop, feeling weak, and inability to enjoy doing all the work! My two cents

I actually don't mind working full time and going to school full time. With online courses, I've been able to do thatnim the past with little problem. However, as an engineering major, online classes are getting more scarce. I'm finding that the baaic availability of classes is my greatest struggle. For example, I have this one class that has a lab component. There are around a dozen different lab times, but only 2 lecture classes. And, both lectures are only about an hour apart mid-day. So, whether I'm on day or night shift at work, neither course is available to me. That means I have to wait until the following semester or even the following year, if that course isn't available in the spring. That's especially frustrating when it's a course that is foundational to my major and ia a prerequisite for several others. So, one class not being available can potentially push your entire degree plan back a semester or even a full year. I wish colleges would have a greater range of course availability. Just have at least 3 of each course; 1 early morning, 1 mid-day, and 1 evening minimum. That would work so mucn better. Also, I wish colleges had more late night and weekend classes. Instead, the earliest is around 8am and the latest is around 9pm. It would help to have a few classes around 10, 11, or even midnight. Anyway, I'll just be happu when I'm finally done with my degree. I have around 2 years left, hopefully. I'm seriously considering leaving a good paying job to just focus on school fulltime.

Damn dude same here. I think getting a grasp on the material is more important. I understand you have to work but you must give up some time in order to succeed in one or the other. You want to succeed in school, so you really have to cut back time on work. Sometimes its not possible, but if you dont then you half ass everything because your time is divided. Moral of the story, cut back on hours at work if you can, and hit the books hard.
@fknight

That was my situation as well. I didn't like it. I think @snotface8 gave some good advice. And if you're able to, try out 12 credits. I know the whole situation with thinking "the more classes I take, the faster I'll complete my degree," but that's not the case if you fail. I know from personal experience. If you can work less, do that. If not, try to take less (or easier) classes. It's hard to give more specific advice without knowing more about the situation. PS - Personally, Calc 1 was much more difficult than Calc 2.

The company wishes to hire me on a permanent contract as project engineer but I do not have an academic bachelor's degree which is the minimum requirement for the job. The company is offering to hire me permanently in a lower function as a works engineer or something of that nature, of course with fewer benefits and pay than a project engineer. They want me to be employed in that function while I work on getting a bachelor's degree which will be paid for by the company. All of this is making me wonder why they hired me as an assistant project engineer in the first place. May I kindly ask you for your opinion and thoughts on accepting the offer and why the company hired me as an assistant project engineer, knowing I do not meet the requirements to be permanently hired as a project engineer? Thank you in advance and I hope to hear from you.

Love the ambition. Are you at a point where you can either lower your workload or classes? Are you profiting enough from your amazon businesses to sustain a living (don't answer. that's a question to ask yourself)? Maybe it makes more sense to spend more time on your businesses and less time on your bartending. Just a thought. Or maybe you can take fewer classes than you currently do. If none of the above are feasible. Sounds like you just have to work until it is.

Reason people fail in the beginning is that they haven't taught their mind to think logically. If you do that you will catch programming easily since it's just basic logical steps. Like driving to a destination you have to follow certain roads to get there.

First! Conor has it easillyyyyyyy. Unless he gets taken to the ground then it’s done. I got hired at the Microsoft store, and it’s 20 hours per/week minimum. But more hours may be feasible. This video put everything into perspective! Thanks! I’m in my first CS class that’s taught in python and it isn’t too bad. However, I’m trying to teach myself other technologies to start a side project and it’s really starting to overwhelm me. Any advice on how to handle/organize technologies/languages to learn in the right ways so I can become a more well round “engineer” my focus for my career will be front end development I’m hoping so if that helps for the basis for your advice at all, there you go. Thanks man! I watch every video right when the bell rings on the phone!

The first part of your comment didn't age well 😅 Congrats on the position! Overtime through school and self work, you'll become a well rounded dev. Just focus on a technology that interests you and go all in. Build a few small projects after learning the basics, then test your skills with a bigger project. Don't be afraid to use Google to figure out how to do things. It's encouraged. Once you've gotten good at that, than feel free to move on to the next or work on mastering that skill. Your CS program will definitely help you experience new technologies, computer, theoretical work, and become well rounded.

Learn C/C++ and the algorithms/data structures needed. This will give you a good base to easily learn any languages out there and will understand all the technologies they use.

How many classes do you have to take in order to be a full-time student?

Not the Video Poster, but as a full-time student and worker, typically colleges view full-time as a minimum of taking 12 credits (4 classes) per semester.

Hey man dealing with the same, working 40 hrs a week, going to college full-time And it sucks (*edit: left the job, now focusing on academics, my professors are pouring assignments over assignments on me. job made me financially independent for some 8 months, but again the papa and mama girl, dependent on parents for food, tution fee, clothing... and this also sucks)
