My friends, I know this is a couple of years old but I did not see anyone correcting you in the comments. A Diesel engine is designed to idle for very extended times. Truck drivers will idle their engines for days in winter. You cannot hurt your engine by idling. Fair winds and following seas!!

What fun you guys are mixing in with all your hard work. For years, I have gone to the Keys around Meeting of the Minds and have done the Zombi Ride. In fact, I may have been there when this episode was shot. What a bizarre party! Fixing your prop shaft issues made Atticus even better than it was designed. However, I don't envy any job dealing with itchy fiberglass. Been there, done that installing engines at Gulf Star Yachts back in the '70s. Jordan, you should be proud of yourself for the quality of work you do. It's no wonder that you have so many friends to share the good times with. You and Desiree are a great couple.

Hey Ben! Thanks! This episode WAS particularly difficult to string together- we weren't filming as much as we should have through our refit and through the final stages of leaving Key West (because we were focused on working and getting Atticus ready to sail). I'm super impressed that Jordan pulls these awesome stories out of thin air :) He's a keeper! Thanks for watching! -Desiree

Looks odd that sterntube.... I was expecting a bronze bus with a cutless bearing in it. Not fiberglass. I think the previous owner bodged something up when he couldn't afford or find parts ... The repair looks pretty strong though! Love the style, really different that all the others!
@ProjectAtticus6 жыл бұрын
Hey S/V Adma! Yeah I thought the previous stern tube was odd as well, although it did have a Cutlass bearing within the tube. Did it take you 2 years to fix the boat? Would have liked to seen that process :)
All right, pumped another one out. What hp outboard in the dink? Does it plane good? Do you think it would plane with 3 people aboard? We have a 8 ft RIB with a 4 hp merc right now, but looking to buy a bigger dink and motor. 9.9 hp would be great if it will work. Keep up the good work. Hope you got a nice security chain and lock for your new dink.
@ProjectAtticus6 жыл бұрын
Hey Pate Allan! We have a 8ft Zodiac RIB with a foldable transom and a 8hp Tohatsu (4 stroke). We can't plane with 3 people, but we can plane with two people and my sewing machine, which is exciting! Yes we bought a security chain for the dink but luckily we haven't had to use it much in Isla Mujeres, Mx!
@ProjectAtticus6 жыл бұрын
Hey Pat, Jordan here. Yeah I would definitely recommend larger than 8 ft to plain with 3 people as the 8hp 4 stroke is at the max weight limit for our dink. Although it might work out if you had a two stroke that fit within your weight limit. All that said, if you can, I would go with a slightly larger dink with a 9.9 as you had mentioned. Just my two cents! Thanks for tuning in!
@ProjectAtticus6 жыл бұрын
Oh also we were using a 3/8 chain to lock the dink but it chafed the cap rail on Atticus as well as the dink hypalon so we switched to really thick steal cable with a vynil coating. Any thoughts?...
@pateallan77646 жыл бұрын
I just know the more robust your chain and lock, the thief will keep walking til they find an easy target. I dont think I would attempt to cut a 3/8" chain. I know you are limited right now having access to chaffing preventers. State side, an old discarded fire hose from the local fire station would work. Most places we've been (U.S.) we didnt need to lock our stuff up. Our stuff has been old crap too. Sounds like your cable will do fine.

Wow looks like a big motor on little shit...what size motor and how big is the dinghy... S/V Teak Key
@ProjectAtticus6 жыл бұрын
Hey S/V Teak Key! The outboard is a 8hp 4 stroke on a 8" zodiac which IS really big for that boat. It is just within the max suggested weight limit according to zodiac. I'm super happy we chose the bigger outboard though, she plains like a champ with the two of us plus groceries and or snokeling gear. As long as the transom holds up over time I'll be stoked!😬

Lil' Sh!t has a bit ASS motor! You might be faster than SSL, Rick More's big ass dingy motor boat!!!! woo woo!!!
