I loved every minute of Austria! Was in both Vienna and Salzburg for 3 days. I bought back lots of gingerbread cookies (European style). Coffee is superb in Vienna.

And to answer your question: most shops here close between 6-8pm depends on the kind of shop (groceries, sports, drugstore and so on) and on saturdays most to almost all shops close at 6pm, but i think that depends on the area in which you live in, on the landside they close sooner than in vienna for example

Great!! I am from Carinthia (South Austria) and love Salzburg!!! But I didn’t know the Sound of music until I went to the USA for a schoolyear 😂! And every shop closes early, because in the evening it’s family/relax time! Greetings 🤗🇦🇹

I find it so interesting that places close at 6pm in Austria! In the city I live in in Australia, our supermarkets and one major department store chain is open until 9pm on weekdays and 5pm on weekends, but every other specialty store closes at 5/5:30pm apart from one day a week when they're open later (9pm). I've always thought it was a bit weird how early our shops close!

As an Austrian, I have to say cancelling Hallstatt was a good Idea (it is overrated). If you go back to Austria I would recommend to get a car and visit the wachau valley (it has some of the best views) and it is normal that everything closes at 6 or 7 (offering work life balance)

Hahahaha yeeeees Shops closing early…one of the things I always disliked growing up in Germany. I think Austria is very similar. At least where I‘m from most stores close at 7 or 8. 🤣

People have a different mentality about work for sure. And a lot of working rights/unions that protect people from working long hours. I do think it‘s verrrryyy inconvenient sometimes though and for instance the grocery shopping experience is sooo much nicer in the US (in my opinion) 😅

Tiny room!? Americans are privileged on hotel room size. The one you are in with a skylight is bigger than any Englang hotel room I've stayed in. Think small studio apartment that crams everything into a small space. That is England unless you can afford the top premier places. Gorgeous views!
