If I make a suggestion. Please do not use steel on steel to separate or clean a flange. Instead take a 12 inch copper pipe (say 1/2 inch) and flatten and sharpen the end. That way it can be used to pry and scape a flange without damaging the base metal. Copper is softer

@@christhomas2596 on a diff its really not that essential. The surfaces are rather rough to begin with. But ,if it were a cylinder head, or a water pump, your suggestions are well warranted.

@@LandRoverSophie Why not put a Lexus 450h gearbox hooked onto the 4x4 landy transfer box add 60+kw battery pack you`ll see around 375bhp.... more than enough to pull the landy/batteries around :):) here`s said gearbox in a Jaguar kzbin.info/www/bejne/rXObhX2mns5ghqM it`s also in Damian Magure`s BMW conversion :):)

Hi Sophie, been watching your videos for a while and as a well seasoned mechanical engineer (ex Royal Navy) I’m really impressed by what you have achieved. Brings back fond memories Sophie. I had a 1961 (my age) some 40 years ago complete with Smiths fart stirring heater, and Lucas intermittent (when they felt like it) windscreen wipers. Coileys where still to come, I remember watching a 90 early in the 80s, amazed at how it soaked bumps on rough ground. love it and please keep it up. Chris

no need to apologise Sophie, I for one always look forward to your videos, the music coupled with your soft voice is so calming, watching your videos is almost like meditation. You're doing a great job & knowing what it's like to be working outside on machines it proves to me that you're made of strong stuff, it would be easier in a workshop/garage but you have to work with what you have, not everyone is blessed with such luxuries, maybe Santa could get you a pop-up one for Christmas 😁

Think most Land Rover restorations in UK are done on cold wet driveways. I used a beach umbrella to keep the snow off me while installing new swivels. Nice work, well done.

Doesn't seem haphazard,I wouldn't worry about it,I'd say the opposite,I think you do a great job explaining every process in detail even down to the specifics of the paint!:) bicarbonate of soda will neutralize the T wash acid! A quick way to clean holes for bushings is a decking screw in a chopped off piece of broomhandle with sandpaper contact glued or fixed in a slot,with the end cut off the screw it fits in a drill,got to be drilled accurately though or it acts like a camshaft!!!:) I'd say just keep on as you are,like the no nonsense approach!!!

Mini restoration that is , some solid work go into it all , I'm literally doing the same on my 110 sw , chassis all painted etc , I used Eastwood rust encapsulator plus on mine though , had to replace all the tub floor and crossmembers , after all that effort you've done ild seriously consider buying glyn Lewis mud sheilds to protect that 2nd row seat crossmember and the c posts

You are doing a great job in somewhat less than perfect conditions. I admire you enthusiasm and dedication to the task. Don't forget to file or grind a small 'lead' chamfer on your cut to length bolts. Will make fitting much easier and remove the nasty burr left by the grinder (you may have done this off-camera though). As you know oil/grease on a primed surface is not ideal, even solvent will not necessarily remove it (primer is porous) and might cause imperfect adhesion for your carefully applied top coat. A bit of flash rusting is easily removed from your base metal surfaces, only worth painting a temporary protective coat of primer if the parts are being left for a prolonged period in damp conditions. Keep up the good work.

I really like your channel! I know how much work it is to restore a LandRover. I've got some 10 landrovers from 1959 to 1977, 88 and 109, diesel and petrol. I clicked on one of your video's and i loved your british accent and now i subscribed. Not just for the accent, also for the interesting video's.🤣🤣 I'm in the Netherlands. Just started a KZbin channel but no video's yet. Yeah some old ones from a 4x4 challenge i filmed with my rubbish phone and none of my own cars😅

Great work, pretty impressive. The only thing I would say is that green lock tight is very strong stuff normally needing heat to break bolts free.

One I have retired next spring I can follow your footsteps with my Disco 1 commercial which is gradually getting to the body lift off stage. Yet another very compelling episode and very enjoyable for someone like me who loves fixing things along with the smell of oil and paint. So far I have found your skills delivered with commitment and confidence and you have demonstrated that you really know what you're doing, not just with the Land Rover specifically but with welding, degreasing, painting, dealing with rusty bolts etc. etc. For this reason I think it's a shame you seem to have allowed some people to get inside your head to dent this confidence, this is YOUR story of YOUR build and you're not selling advice so talk of disclaimers is very sad indeed, if you feel you have to then put something as a silent header on each episode, never apologise for your very strong capability. Some of the other builders and restorers at some point have become a slave to people who wish to give you an opinion as an armchair critic having never done it themselves. U.S. President Roosevelt wrote the following in 1910 and it remains relevant and true as the day he wrote it "It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. As to be honest, you may be right in the fact that yes, when I edit these videos together I am constantly aware that if i don't say something or slip up somewhere, I will get caught out.
