Hey Johanna so it’s getting close to when I am to apply for language school. I wanted to ask what was the rent like in Fukuoka thinking of applying to the same school you attended.
@johannakatakana3 жыл бұрын
Oooh, that’s exciting!! The rent for a one-room apartment is around 30,000-40,000 yen (could go lower or higher depending on how old the apartment is/size/quality/location), I payed 39,000 yen for my apartment! If you choose FFLC I’m sure you’ll have a great time - say hi to the staff from me! 😂

Do you have to come up with the activities/curriculum yourself as a part time teacher, or is there a set curriculum you follow for your school/age range? When you say you teach one 4 hour class on saturdays, are you only paid for the 4 hours each week or is there also paid prep hours?
@sadied0g2 жыл бұрын
If it is just the four hours paid, how do you afford to live with only 4 hours a week at that hourly rate?
@johannakatakana2 жыл бұрын
For my particular job I don't have to prepare anything, I just use their curriculum! So I'm paid for the hours I'm actually teaching! I've started working a lot more each month now, it's not just 4 hours a week anymore. But I've never relied on my English teaching job as my only income, I've always used some kind of student loan/scholarship too! As much as I'm working now, my salary alone could probably pay my monthly expenses! I'm working around 20-22 hours per week now ☺️ (I'm a 4th year student now and don't have a lot of classes left!)

Hey Johanna your videos are super helpful!! I have a question about visas when you applied to FFLC did you have to apply for a 2 year student visa? And how much does it cost? I have seen a lot of different answers and right now it looks like its 4,000,000 yen this seems super high to me is this about how much you had to pay on top if your school tuition? Thank you so much!!!

I want to become more fluent in japanese. Currently I'm working in hotel cleaning but I'm not satisfied in this baito because there's no anyone I can talk to.

Can you tell me what are the requirements to work as an English Teacher in japan for a Non-native english speaker?
@johannakatakana Жыл бұрын
I don't know how it works everywhere, but I have heard of places where they require TOEIC/TOEFL or something of the like. For me, I didn't have to do anything specific, I went to the interview, and I think they could tell by the way I was talking that I had the necessary level of English that they require. I can't say that it workss the same in other places though! Sorry I can't give you a more specific answer!

Hmmm I do wonder if it'll be harder finding a part time job cuz of current events, but I won't be in Japan until January for classes anyway so, by then things will probably steadily get even better
@johannakatakana3 жыл бұрын
I can imagine it’ll be a bit harder, maybe especially for foreigners who just arrived in japan, but I’m sure there will be opportunities even so! I’ve seen staff from my school posting about part time job advice (and like, “go and get a job peeps”) for students struggling with money right now! And finding a part time job in japan is generally pretty easy if you’re not too picky, so I don’t think you need to worry too much!!

Hi! I am a Filipino who has been living in Philippines my whole life. But now, I’m currently here in Fukui, Japan since last year. I am currently learning Japanese at home and I haven’t even have a JLPT certificate but I am planning to take the N4 exam this December. I want to apply for a part time job and I’m also thinking of becoming an english teacher but I’m not sure if there is a job opening around here. I actually wanna get a job where I can get money and learn to speak Japanese in a more fast pace. Can you give me some advice on how will I be able to become fluent in Japanese? Because I know most companies here requires a person who can speak Japanese.
@johannakatakana3 жыл бұрын
Becoming an English teacher is the easiest thing do to since you probably won’t need to use Japanese and it pays better than most other part time jobs, but if you want to improve your Japanese I’d really encourage you to try to find a job where you need to use Japanese! If you have N4 I think working as hall staff in a restaurant or something similar could work, it will definitely be a challenge in the beginning but you will improve so much faster if you put yourself in an environment where you’re forced to use the language! ☺️

Haha yeah I guess I got lucky 😂 It was very stressful and worked harder than I’ve ever done before or after that, but it paid off!! Some things are more expensive, my rent is 10,000 yen more expensive for about the same size (this one has a loft though and is cleaner and better located), food is a bit more expensive here and also things like karaoke is more expensive too, but other than that it hasn’t changed that much! I think transportation (mainly train) might actually be a bit cheaper here!
