Working replica of WWI plane painstakingly recreated by enthusiasts

The Sopwith 1½ Strutter took to the skies during the First World War in the early days of military aviation.
Now a group of men in East Lothian are painstakingly recreating a working replica of this trailblazing aircraft.
Members of the Aviation Preservation Society of Scotland have been working on the project for more than 20 years and hope to get the plane airborne in the next few months.

A bit off topic , BUT in 2018 , I was fortunate to visit the WW1 Stow Maries aerodrome in Essex , where they have a collection of RFC/RAF , French and German aircraft , as well as some vintage vehicles on display - worth visiting !!

This is fantastic work, I volunteer at DH Museum quite often, where I work on WW1, between the wars and hopefully soon on the 'Mossie' - one of my favourite all time aircraft. I wonder if it shall be 'gifted' or bought by the Shuttleworth Collection in Bedfordshire... Thanks for sharing 👍

NZ is rebuilding and building new WWI aircraft right down to the original motors. Old motors are being reverse engineered and built new, complete with all the original design flaws. Peter Jackson is behind much of the effort.

what they didn't mention is that royan naval air service (RNAS) wing 3 used it for first even sustained British strategic bombing campaign against deept inside German territory. It had 2 variants. A Bomber variant which was single seat and carried bombs as well as a fighter variant which was 2 seat and escorted the bombers deep inside enemy territory. It achieved that because it had relatively large range and could carry more payload compared to other aircrafts of the time.

I believe that Anthony Fokker offered his military inventions and aircraft design to the British Air Ministry first , but was typically and overwhelmingly rebuffed and politely shown the door . The tradesman's door .
