I've worked retail for 15 years and it just keeps getting worse. I actually liked the first 5 or so years, but every time I get into a good groove, I get smacked down by people above me. I can't wait to get out of retail, it's so crap, especially nowadays.

@@logieagogie I should have done an apprenticeship in something asap after high school, even if I was enjoying retail at the time. It's the advice I'm going to give everyone who asks about work.

I'm fortunate enough to be paid $25/hr as a department manager I treat my team with respect praise them for good work and buy them coffee/snacks just little things to make their day better i really try not to be an asshole manager but holidays are stressful and corporate sucks but hey pretty decent money at 21 with no college plus overnight i get a 2$ premium on top of making $25 and hella OT if i want it but I definitely want to do something more fulfilling but right now its not too bad just got to take the opportunities i get and run with it.

I agree about the smaller stores being better. The issues with bigger retail chains is you have these bosses who are all competing for power and will screw people over as much as they can to get a slightly above minimum wage pay increase. Some bosses can be chill but others will abuse it when they can. Newer people get paid more than the person who's been there for a few years or you'll equally make just the same and if you do a good job, here is more work for you! Working hourly in these settings are a pain in the ass and it is a flawed system.
