This was one of your more POWERFUL videos. I had no Idea you had autism. When you hugged Mikko, she literally just melted- but in a GOOD way, into your arms. The tension, anxiety, slowly, just ebbed away. I have the utmost respect for you. You are teaching things that cannot be learned from a text book, and I applaud you.

Mikko was so conscious of the camera. She also tried extremely hard to fight those meltdowns. I also noticed how great she did with numbers as opposed to the colour coordinating puzzle. She really tries hard in everything she does. It's just that she seems locked in inside herself (since she can't communicate like her mom said), on top of ALL THAT, she's still a toddler & have to navigate the world like any other typical toddler who's still learning how to express emotions. You're doing great Mikko baby

Each human is unique and special. There is no one method that fits all. I know we all want Mikko to accomplish every task given, and she is, will or try...but in her time. It's painful to see her go thru her meltdowns and/or shutdowns. But that is a part of her communicating. I love the way you and your family live.I too can shutdown when I feel I'm not being understood, it's not weakness it's a method of communication. But after time is taken or given I try again. Communication is a Gift, sometimes the gift is received as given. But when we learn to listen, hear and understand what is being said thru words or actions..life gets better. We can all do better,just continue to do your best. Good job to you all

You are doing an excellent job with Mikko. You are patient, loving and kind. You have a lot on your plate because you not only have Mikko and helping her navigate through autism but you also have the twins whom I believe you mentioned one of the twins also has autism. And you are still mourning the loss of your most recent pregnancy which is very difficult. And you are also a wife which brings it's own responsibilities. That is a lot. Please make sure you are taking care of yourself because caregiver burnout is a real thing. Mikko is doing extremely well because of all the work you are doing with her. She is a very bright little girl. She seems to get frustrated though when multiple activities are placed upon her. Once she can grasp one activity I would leave it at that for at least a day or two. Because it seems like the goal should be confidence building not how much she can do. Confidence within herself will lead to less and less meltdowns which are caused by frustration in not believing in herself that she can accomplish a specific task or tasks. Maybe the goal should be learning one skill a day such as the puzzle pieces and once she learns that allow her to do the same task over and over for as long as it takes. And then move on to another activity. She is doing really well and will be very prepared to go into a structured school setting at some point with supports in place.
@yoDezi Жыл бұрын
When she’s doing a task that could cause potential frustration, try having a stress ball or something she can use to export that frustration on to, rather than pulling on her clothes. The energy needs to be placed somewhere so she can get it out. But it needs to be an external neutral object not her clothes or her body. Stress balls or squishiest are a great place to transfer that negative energy. I think she was getting most upset that you wouldn’t let her pull her shirt, but she didn’t know what else to do to get her angries out. Just an idea, but try having something on hand for moments like that. You’re doing great! I love how you’re so calm and gentle modeling calmness for her! Love y’all!

Kids do whatever is allowed. Sometimes they even get upset when they don’t get things right and that’s ok but I wouldn’t call it a meltdown. Sometimes kids can be e very spoiled and when it’s time to learn or do work they may not want to get into serious mode so then comes a good ole tantrum or a slight attitude. So kids will definitely try you out but as the adult you must put your foot down and stick to it and not fall for their cute faces , dreamy eyes and/or say no and don’t feel bad about it again kids will cry even knowing things will be ok ❤️🙏🏾

Seems like it’s a lot of pressure on her. It Has to be fun mom 😢and this was not fun for her. Most pre school teachers show alot more excitement when kids do things the correct way because it gives them the confidence and courage to want to learn. Next thing you know she’ll be trying to get your attention after she does it the right way because she knows your going to be so enthused and that’s what kids like to see. They want to make you proud but when there is a lot of pressure to do the work right way and there is no enthusiasm it makes them less confident and they have melted downs. Even kids that aren’t autistic are the same.

It kind of looked like she was going for the opposites of the color wheel, and got a little frustrated when it didn’t turn out as she imagined. Thanks for being a great mom, and letting her stack her numbers! After she was able to stack and got praise for it, she then did what she knew you expected from her.
