i think alot of the misconceptions are from the christian ideology they needed a devil to convert the heathen and poor loki was chosen
@NashNoLastName5 жыл бұрын
That's my thought too. I feel like when Christianity took over these views were added to the original Norse ideology by the Christian writers who transcribed many of the stories we have now. So today when people convert to following the Norse Gods, especially if they were previously Christian, this mindset is already in place keeping these misconceptions alive.
@MABB1335 жыл бұрын
@@NashNoLastName I agree. Same thing happened with Morgan Le Fay when the Christians re-wrote the old Arthurian stories - and she ended up as the wicked witch in Disney's version (Sword in the Stone). As with Loki, total misconception of her nature and role. Fascinating video - and I love the sense of humour.

A lot of the Norse Paganism Practices Including The Sagas were possibly written by Christian Scholars during the Reformation Period even Stephen Flowers Arith Häger and a few others have said the same thing a lot of people are practicing it wrong because of the very fact that it very well may have been learned only oraly and alot of that is lost to time
@geolinehande56453 жыл бұрын
I like that you mentioned that the demonization of Loki is likely due to Christian influence. I've always suspected that. I also feel like Loki is kind of the "patron saint" of the underdog. He kind of checks the privilege of the Aesir and Vanir gods and goddesses, which is good because they kind of just appointed themselves as the best of the best, which is pretty arrogant. ;)
@ivydraws32452 жыл бұрын
WHO ELSE WOULD THEY CHOOSE!! I mean no offense Loki, but like the only other person i can think off the top of my head is Thor, whos thing is getting drunk, and hitting stuff really hard. Which doesn't measure much up to "the guy who started the end of the world" if you put it in perspective Odin had a bad reaction to a nightmare and threw his neice into the afterlife, his nephew in the sea, and his other nephew in chains. And Loki was like i will kill your CHILD for this. And he did. And it caused the end of the world.

@@charasteit’s complete BS. He isn’t the god of self acceptance . He’s the god who murdered his family member and is currently plotting to kill the entire rest of his family . He assaults women , mutilates animals and steals from his own family repeatedly simply because he enjoys it. If you want an actual god of self acceptance , it would be the Norns or Frigg. The Norns set your fate in life , and Frigg sets who is born to whom. Or maybe Odin and his brothers who gave us life and our souls. Not Loki

I was always drawn to mythology as a child and I will admit that marvel brought me to Norse Mythology, and of course my favorite character is Loki, but I'm really grateful that you mentioned this argument because people do tend to make me (and surely others) feel weird or bad, like I'm just an extreme case of a fan girl to where its turned my mind, when really I believe that marvel is how I was lead to Norse Paganism, and I find real joy in that. So thank you, also if you haven't read The Gospel of Loki by Joanne Harris, I highly recommend it, I think you'd appreciate it.

Thanks for watching! I'm glad you enjoyed the video! I definitely think that marvel is a valid way of entering into Norse Paganism, especially since the MCU is such a huge thing. Plus, I feel like Loki is enjoying the increased attention that comes from Marvel's incarnation of him. I also know a lot of pagans who use Hiddleston's likeness to represent Loki, which I believe is valid because he is a shapeshifter so who can really say what he's "supposed" to look like. I've also been meaning to read the Gospel of Loki for sooo long, I just haven't had time to get around to it. -_- Hopefully soon!

I actually was talking to my dad about paganism. He never forced his religion on anyone, or even talked about it, so I had heard about it when I was about seven. I did more research a few years later, and I just felt this connection. I read every book, watched a lot of videos, and I got a necklace and runestones. Then I learned more about Loki, and I read a book on kindle unlimited and it was an alternate take on the gods in the eyes of Loki. I just felt it. My dad always says: If it looks good, you'll see it. If it sounds good, you'll hear it. If it is truly good, you'll feel it.

You're absolutely right. It's Christian influence. If we took Loki out of the stories it would be pathetically boring. Odin wouldn't travel between realms. Thor would never battle the midgard serpent. We'd never get to imagine Thor dressing up like a chic! Nobody would ever grow and the gods would be stagnant. Loki is the initiator of growth and change. In some mythologies, like certain native American people, the trickster (Coyote) is also the creator god. And I don't think Ragnarok is an event in history anymore than I think Valhalla is a beer/ fighting fest in the afterlife.
@krispalermo81333 жыл бұрын
So sorry, you like most people had read the error regarding Norse warriors' Heaven. Valhalla was just the name of the drinking long house of those who died in battle went to hang out after they got their choirs done around their fore fathers house/ hall. Valhalla wasn't heaven, it was just the officers drink club that was located in Asgard. Also Asgard was more written as a portside trade city. Found that out when I was ten years old back in 1987. When I pointed that out to the Southern Baptist Church cult my mom drag us children to, I was .. told .. by the Sunday school teachers that I should spend more time studying the Bible than reading up on Catholic pagan translations to contradict your elders.

Ok so if I assault my adopted aunt , spread lies about my relatives infidelity to try and break up their marriage, murder my nephew , create a bunch of monsters to kill my family and mutilate my other nephews pets , that’s just me ‘stopping them becoming boring’? Come off it . That’s toxic , abusive and cruel at best. He’s not some renegade figure who spices things up , he’s an abusive POS who is currently chained in the underworld for his crimes. Life isn’t a video game or to show. In real life , “ spicing things up “ by making people suffer and die is sadistic. Thor dies fighting the serpent to save us all from horrific deaths that Loki would have caused. Odin wanders the earth trying to find ways to save his children from brutal deaths brought about my Lokis machinations. That’s not fun - it’s torture .

The most valid idea I've seen for not working with Loki is the idea that he's known for getting you what you want coupled with a butt ton of unnecessary hurdles. That being said, I personally believe that whether I feel like asking him for help with certain things or not, based off what I know of him from the stories and my experiences, there's a lot that you can learn from him. In my opinion a lot of the people who refuse to acknowledge what Loki can offer are living in a lot of fear without nuance. The "underworld" deities in Norse Mythology all represent the scary shit in life that arguably needs working with more than the comfortable stuff.

I almost like to see Ragnarok, you were talking about possible metaphors, as a self fulfilling prophecy! Like... you can't avoid the change that the universe has in store, regardless of what precautions you take. And perhaps, knowing what is to come, and BEING AFRAID of it causes just such a fear to come to fruition. With Loki and his kids, I agree with you. Fenrir was just a puppy when he was betrayed and chained up. And the manor in which he was chained up involved 3 of his children! ... terrible, really. Anyway, thank you so much for making this! I love seeing Loki love ♡♡

I appreciate this video very much! I began hearing Loki's call a month ago and am at the very beginning of the journey of learning the things he wants to teach me. Much of the work thus far is revolved around being honest with myself--and usually people think of that as acknowledging their faults, which is true...but what gets overlooked is that this is also an honest assessment of our virtues. Loki isn't one for false modesty--at least not so far with me--and has emphasized learning to recognize the nature of what something is. That means fully accepting that the good is good as well as dealing with faults and weaknesses. If people only knew how tender and understanding he can be when you're willing to look in that mirror of your character, history, and beliefs and do the work! I've made myself be open--as open as I currently know how to be--and the result is that he shows patience and is willing to provide guidance. If I was stubborn and resisted the process, I think he'd become more firm. But cooperation comes with benefits! We choose how this god deals with us. Thank you for being willing to discuss this!

This video contained one of the most insightful looks into the true nature of Loki that I've ever encountered, outside of what I've had the great honor of observing through my interactions with the God himself. Amazing job and kudos to this little lady here (sorry don't know your name). Loki shows me people's true nature, and helps me because I'm a very trusting person so he lets me see who I'm really interacting with under certain circumstances when he thinks it's important for me to know, just because he's got my back so to speak. Really liked the way she/you explained the thing about the trickster aspect too... How he's just going to go ahead and play that role if it's the only kind of part you want him to okay I'm your life. To me, it makes no sense whatsoever to put your belief into any deity or spirit fulfilling a role like that because all anyone will be doing is opening themselves up to getting F'd with. Last comment is concerning the lore. My personal approach to the stories about the gods and goddesses is that they're there just to give you the sense of a personality to connect with. Just happens to be my personal belief that the lore isn't important beyond that. Read a few stories if you need to, or don't! Get a statue and use the image, or use the sense of the personality you may have derived from the lore to give yourself a "person" to connect to. Thats all you need to connect directly to the source (the deity himself or herself) to find out everything else that is relevant to know about them. In other words you can just work directly to find out who they are! And that brings me back to my praise of what's-her-name (sorry) who did this video. It was such a wonderful thing to hear someone else talk about him, who has real insight to the true nature of the great Loki!

I am a godspouse of Loki and just saying this is so true because at first I only saw him as a darker deity but in reality, with being more open with him he turned out to be a goofball and he then decided to pull me into a prank war with Zeus and it was really funny because they had me painting for 6 days.

As someone who has devoted themselves to loki, loki isn't a "bad god". He is the force of change, regardless of themselves. If you need to speak up, then you should as loki did when he called out the gods and was "punish" for it, but he was right to do so. If you are stuck in your ways, then you should change and accept the responsibly. Loki is both the love of others to see where they can be and the love of changing oneself.

I've been a practicing chaos witch for 15 years and Loki helps me with so much introspection in my life. I was like 14-15 years old when I started my practice with Gothic witchcraft which then lead closer and closer to Norse paganism in my journey. I was wary at first but Loki helped guide me into chaos magic. I'm 27 going to be 28 this year and I thank him for all the lesson I've learned and will discover over time. I absolutely love him. 💚🖤

@@jacobdykes8827 Chaos magic is more than just winging it, you'll have to give everything or god or goddess base level respect be it from the Norse pantheon or Hinduism or Zoarastrian, etc. Witch is still taboo to a lot of people and I'm comfortable with the title because I know there are gods of witchcraft but I'm not the god of ALL witchcraft because that's arrogant to me. I'm the god of whatever I do specifically yet witch is one of many titles I'm okay with to reiterate.

When I first became a pagan, I looked to Loki because I saw him as this edgy character (also see; Marvel) But as I continued on, he practically smacked me upside the head to get me to understand he’s so much more than what he’s seen in modern day. I’ve learned to form almost a personal relationship with Loki. He treats me in a similar way my older siblings did growing up. I primarily use Shufflemancy to communicate, and I’ll be using it at like 11:00 at night and he’ll send me the song Sweet Dreams, as if to tell me to go the hell to sleep. I wear a ring around my neck along with a Yggdrasil pendant, and anytime I’m in a place where I feel a negative way, it kind of moves in a more powerful way. He’s been guiding me for years and I only realized fairly recently.

I’ve been told recently after my consultation with a psychic that Loki is around me, one of my guides. Also appeared as Hermès I believe and ive drawn horned gods symbols and symbols I believe associated with Loki and hermes. I had been asking about trickster spirits and what their intentions are working with me. In your experience working with Loki, what are the vibes you get with him? Is he there for your best intentions or there to cause mischief and pain and suffering to feed off of this? I was told to have him come back later when I’m ready to work with him, but it seems he may believe I am ready and was hurt when I wanted to turn him away. I have always wanted to accept the darker and the light parts of myself, but I am now working with clients and want only the best intentions for myself and others. Excuse my ignorance. So happy to hear about this. Great video thank you for sharing and your time and energy.

I've always been drawn to Loki in just... Everything. My brother would ask why I didn't like the other gods (usually asking out of curiosity for reasons) and I'd say "Loki is the best in my opinion." and he'd give me a confused/concerned look. I actually didn't have a deity until yesterday, and surprising to me, it was Loki (I genuinely didn't think he'd pop up for me). I was just vibing and practicing using my pendulum, doing a protection spell just in case (I just like having the extra protection as I tend to attract a lot of energetic beings without meaning to). Suddenly my heart started to race and my lights flickered, so I quickly looked around and when I peeked back at my pendulum (which is metal and reflects everything clearly) showed someone with red hair. I, once again, turned back and randomly thought "Loki?" and he made the lights flicker again as my pendulum just started going "yes, yes yes yes yes yes yes!"... Then it ended... And that was that (so far). Then again... Some deity had been messing with me for about a week and thinking back, I think it was him just messing around even though it was stuff that really messed with my scheduling (or just my balance). Loki, my man, just loves pulling pranks on me or something.

Fairly recent convert to Heathenry, and I will say, initially I avoided Loki due to Marvel’s influence. That said, I’ve been about interacting and building relationships with deities, and so far Loki has been the most interactive with me. As the interaction grows, so to does my devotion. For some reason, the term “Lokean” rubs me the wrong way, as I prefer to call myself a “Loki-son”. One thing I like to think of in terms of Loki is that if Odin embodies wisdom, Loki embodies knowledge. Hence, why his remarks are often scathing…

Hi there. Informative video :) I too have felt a connection with Loki and the energy he brings, but at times it can be a hard thing to face, as it brings about change that not a lot of people are comfortable with. For years and to this day, I have always felt called to and work with Thor. Not exactly primarily, but most of my focus is on Thor. I am more wondering if I would displease Thor or the Aesir and Vanir I honor if I accepted Loki as well. I truly believe things are not so black and white for Loki to be "evil" and Thor or Odin to be the "pure" ones. Humans are much the same. I simply seek Loki currently to better understand that side of myself that resonates with him as other aspects of me resonate with Thor and Odin. Thoughts on this?
@NashNoLastName4 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks for watching! You can absolutely work with Loki and the other Aesir and Vanir. Nothing is black and while when it comes to the Norse pantheon and none of the gods would be displeased if you included Loki. In fact Loki was often a frequent companion to Thor in his travels, as well as being the blood brother to Odin. Even in the Lokasenna Loki states that Odin swore to never accept a drink unless it was offered to both him and Loki. Loki isn't evil, nor are any of the other Aesir 'pure', I believe those connotations came from Christian interpretations mainly. Overall, all the gods have flaws and that's what makes them relatable to us as humans. They each have their own purposes, but none are the epitome of purity. (With possibly the exception of Baldr lol) I work with Loki primarily but I too was drawn to Thor and Odin, and as such included them in my practices. There's no right or wrong way to go about it, and if you feel drawn to a god you should absolutely follow your instincts. I hope this helps! Thanks again for watching!

last week something kinda weird happened. I kept seeing a man in my room and at random places. I thought at first it was my deceased little brother. He kept popping up around 3am. All I know is that he had light brown/orange hair (we all have dark hair). Then, some "little tricks" started happening. Nothing bad, as if someone was pranking me. I was like "okay, I got a trickster by my side, as long as he doesn't hurt me, it's fine" I've heard about Loki, and got interested in him few months ago but then I found Hecate and I was like "okay, I do not need more, she's enough for me"...and then, this morning I heard someone calling his name 3 times before waking up. I thought about it a lot and it hit me...Maybe it was him all this time and I got chills and my heart started racing like crazy...

As a teenager I got into an argument with " Hecate " or one of her servants/ fragment self daemons, it didn't end well. It seems one of my pass lives there was some .. issue we had regarding each other. But come on, that was in another life, a few thousand years ago, and I don't even remember what it was about. a.) Hecate is a triple goddess and to properly call/ summon her it works best if you have three groups of female chanting her name. Most of the time only a single daemon/ avatar shows up. We end up with three showing up, temper tantrum teenager girl, hell has no furry hot looking woman, and .. very was .. well .. Granny. All three were very piss off at me. Why, .. uh, hmm, .. it's complicated.

Overall I think regardless of what you offer, as long as it's done in a well meaning and respectful way, Loki is receptive. Some offerings to Loki that I’ve done in the past are candy, small toys, music and songs that relate to him (Playground Twist by Siouxsie and the Banshees is a good one), and anything red. Another type of offering I’ve done as well was shadow work, which is pretty much staring your demons in the face and saying, “hey demons, it’s me...your boy”, and learning how to integrate it in your life for more personal balance. Hope this helps. Sköl.

It certainly could. My advice would be to try and reach out to this person in your vision and let them know that you acknowledge them and are open to learning about them. And don't worry about not knowing everything, learning your path is a lifelong endeavor and no god is going to reach out expecting you to know everything. As a child during a primary school project I found out about Fenrir through researcing about wolfs I have forever since then used Him as my favourite god or animal or username when it applies, and as a bi product I learnt a little about Loki both of these topics didn't go far beyond the surface level, so when I started getting into Norse mythology and Norse paganism in a religious sense it was kind of saddening to see the dislike for both of them, even given there enevatability, I've only just started my Norse religious journey over the last 6month it will be interesting to see how my fondness for Loki and his children will pan out in the future and how I will handle it given Fenrir was the initial reason I was interested in it from childhood.

Loki, when viewed as a dynamic variable, brings about a whole array of potentialities for its function. Viewed as an ever-changing representation which disrupts the common, the comfortable, the known and the expected, Loki must be given medal for being the one causing growth in societies by mocking the ineffectiveness, or the worn out expression of an old belabored system. This class of people are among the most sacred and revered; they cause us to see our silliness in clinging to the old to the point of no longer allowing new expressions to flourish, and for motion and time to destroy and re-make all things are or will be. If the old warn out expressions are not let go of then society degrades into wasting and atrophy. The Lokies (plural) are those who challenge the status quo, and who but up against the old dogmatic systems of society which only lead to no good. We change and form and shape reality. But we never lead or rule either.
