Step one in the construction of my new shop was to get to a point that I can secure the inside from weather and theft. No space is worth a darn if the stuff you put inside it gets wet or walks away. So, the doors were a priority. I looked up materials like metal and plywood and the costs were outrageous! Designing something from junk I had laying around crossed my mind, but at some point, this trailer might find itself rolling down the public roads and I did not want it to appear like it was a pile of trash, slapped together. Nor did I want to compromise the safety of others that could be hurt if something were to give way and fall into traffic. Thus, the doors were going to be built in such a manner as to appear, and operate as if they were a stock part of the trailer. That meant building from new, strong materials. The cement board was heavy but cheaper then wood. And the nearby lumber yard I went to did not carry plywood. So, rather then drive to another location, I let fate determine the material for me. The weight of the doors did not concern me anyway, because the rollup door was Heavy! And with it's removal, including all the the metal that made it work, the difference the new doors would make would be negligible.

Marty, I can’t tell you how much I have missed your project videos. I watched all of your previous ones from building docks, boats, Kayaks, jet boats, K-T etc… your creativity and knowledge are inspirational. I can’t wait to see the progression of your new workshop!

Marty is the DIY King. From his first red Kayak, that got me hooked into kayak fishing. I know this will be a unique build. Especially with your magic touch Marty! 💯 😎

That will be nice, Marty. As an old field tech, I missed not having a service truck as the business grew and I came off the road to run the office. So I built a smaller version of that, a 6x10 trailer. I put a deep cycle battery on the tongue and use it to run an inverter and charge powertool batteries, and also to run LED lights inside. Sounds like you'll take that a step further and use solar panels; that will be great! You're doing the right thing by going with barn doors; roll up doors are a PITA. You might also want to consider a window unit A/C or PTAC unit to keep you comfy while working in there. If you can plug it into "shore power", I would suggest wiring it for that. I keep my trailer plugged in while at home, so the battery charges and I charge the tool batteries from that instead of the inverter. I even put a sound system in mine, but I'm weird that way.

Nice to see you back with a new project. This will be a fun project to follow, plenty of height in that trailer for both workbench and some storage higher up.

Marty I live in a 55 and over community where there's over 1000 units and every Thursday is trash day where people throw out stuff from their units and it's amazing how much really good construction material they throw out sometimes it's new also there's furniture and other items that can be reused if you have any communities like that in your area you might be able to get some good construction material for just the cost of your gasoline

something I noticed - that huge trailer with beefy framework, only has a single axle. A very light duty axle at that. This trailer used to be a dual axle. Hoping you don't plan to make this a mobile trailer once this is full of supplies. You will be sadly disappointed. Might verify my suspicions. Love your channel. Looking forward the trailer build-out!

Why not remove the wheels and lower the whole thing onto concrete blocks? You can always jack it back up and replace the tires. (Not sure about your local regulations.)
