Well that was the conventional wisdom, until someone tried it. And it was conventional wisdom that you couldn't put a 17pdr in a sherman, until the Australians sent their project notes to England and someone tried it. The main problem about conventional wisdom is its sometimes just a load of bollocks.

Well done to everyone involved. As a restorer of a 1916 FWD 3ton truck I have some appreciation of the problems that you have. Due to moving house I had to pass the FWD on to a Museum that existed for a while at Jerramungup in WA. When that museum closed the vehicle went to Cowra in NSW. That has now closed and I have no idea where the FWD is now. I would like to contact the new owners and pass on items relevant to the restoration. I have noticed in the background of several of your videos that there are vehicles other than tanks in the collection. Could we have a video featuring these?

The museum was definitely one of the big highlights of our 17,000km trip around the east coast, highly recommend to anyone WITHOUT DEFINING GENDER!!! The Canberra War Memorial was a lowlight, the main memorial was barricaded off and the museum was restricted. It was nothing like it's wonderful self back in the mid 70s.

First of all, Merry Christmas to our Aussie cousins from America! I'm a retired Army officer who served in an M1A1 Abrams Battalion. I just wanted to thank you for the work you are doing restoring and caring for these very special machines. So much of the history of armored conflict is being destroyed, hidden, rewritten or erased by the leftist woke cult and authoritarian governments bent on forgetting history so people have nothing to compare their actions to in modern times. What you are doing is far more important then you may realize. These machines are proof of what happens when authoritarianism, propaganda, segregation and tribalistic division is allowed to fester and become a cancer to the world. These machines prove these events happened and display the lengths some governmenta and people will go to achieve control and domination over those they disagree with. You saw some of that in your own country during covid with the covid camps and illegal "temporary" cessation of civil rights. Freedom is the right of all people in a civilized society. These historical artifacts help people understand the terror, brutality and tragedy of war so that we together can work harder to avoid it. Ive seen a lot of war as an officer and soldier. In my experience the politicians who seek war the most are the ones who know nothing about it. Everyone should be encouraged to visit your museum and tank fest, especially school children so they do not grow up seeking war except as the means of preventing or ending a threat posed by an aggressor. Thanks again and Merry Christmas! 🌲🤙🥃 -note, I pray you are able to get your gun rights restored. Governments throughout history have always become a threat yo their own people or committed a genocide when they take away the weapons of their own people. It is as inevitable as the sun rising tomorrow.
@johnnewman3669 ай бұрын
Mate, you clearly have no idea regarding gun laws here in Australia. Guns are not banned, have never been banned, last I read there are now approx 4million registered guns in Australia. Anyone can apply for a gun licence (except convicted criminals or those with a history of mental illness). You have to have a valid reason for owning a gun, such as a sport shooter, target shooting, hunting, farmer, pest controller, etc. Self defence is not a valid reason, last thing we want is for the average person in the suburbs stockpiling guns at home and being a potential danger to the community. Last thing we want is to be the US where there are more guns than people and there are mass shootings every day. No thanks (and yes I was a gun owner, and happy for people with valid reasons to have one!). en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_laws_of_Australia Cheers,
@smokejaguarsix77579 ай бұрын
@@johnnewman366 and of course the government decides your "valid reason". Yeah, we call that Tyranny here. Also, stop believing the media. There are not mass shootings here every day or even every week or every month either. Youre clearly a leftie. Btw, I just did a search on Australian shootings...you have them all the time. The only difference is in Australia nobody is allowed to defend themselves (which is utterly evil) and he we have rights. Freedom is scary. Deal with it.

In about 1974 I went to an outdoor armour museum just West of Oakey in Queensland. I clearly remember climbing over a gutted hull and turret - no gun. I was told at the time it was a Tiger II - King Tiger. That museum closed many years ago.
@mickypd19 ай бұрын
That museum was just before Brookvale Park near Jondaryan and was run by an auto electrian called John Bourke from Oakey. We had a cadet camp there in 1977 ( Toowoomba State High School cadet unit ) and it was closed in the early eighties after his marriage failed and divorce gutted the collection. That Tiger tank was probably the Matilda tank that had no interior fittings except fot the drivers seat and nothing else.

Unless I have messed up mind, you guys helped me with measurements for the Crocodile trailer, I hoped I thanked you when you did it because my wife was diagnosed with bone cancer at about the same time. She passed 5 years ago this coming April, so it was a long time ago. I'm really interested in the Churchill series, to me they are the hidden gems of the Tank world and I think the MK IV, is the most rare. While most people think the Mk VII was the last of the series before the Black Prince. but there is a MK VIII was the last, and it was identical to the VII with the exception of there being a 95mm main gun and a few little improvements which do not alter the appearance. Considering the many varieties and the specialist versions like the multi purpose bridge layers, The Crocodile, the MK IV that had the Sherman 75s adapted to fit in Italy which was very surprising in that the MK VI received a more powerful 75 with a more effective mantlet outside the turret, AND the Churchill was a better, more stable gun platform for the 75 which let that gun live up to its full potential. The books Ive purchased what makes the Churchill work are good but as far as illustrations go, mixed up, because I have not seen one where the illustrations and photos are in a chronological order, as in drawings and photos for the driving compartment from a VII Crocodile in a sections of text for the MK III, so my ongoing process to build a complete MK III inside and out have had a lot of revisions and guesswork, and tearing apart and starting over from some point. But it's been interesting and fun and I am not complaining! Keep up the good work, thanks again for the help and photos for the trailer, and you guys are doing a wonderful job in preparing worn out sometimes wrecks to almost new condition so that people long after my time on earth is gone can see and touch what it took for the Allied Nations to stop and destroy the NAZIs with all their very powerful weapons. Freedom is never free, someone is always trying to destroy our freedom so that they can rule over the world.

Hi Guys, It’s for us in the Netherlands very very interesting that your museum is collecting WW2 tanks what never have been in your country or even in the most parts of Asia. You’ve a huge collection of German WW2 vehicles and these are very accurate restored also the majority is running. I’ve seen how a hopeless piece of rusty metal is recovered by your staff in an original condition what first of deserves an enormous respect for the craftsmanship of your staff. Your country is attacked by the Japanese in WW2 so hopefully you also will collecting Japanese army vehicles out of that time since to my opinion these are of a more historical value for your country than German vehicles out of that period. Never the less I wish you guys a blessed Christmas and Good Health and Good Times in the coming New Year! Thank you, , and all your Commenters for the many hours of enjoyable watching, learning, reading and humor you've spread Worldwide the last year. Plus we send you love from the Netherlands

They are largely associated with the North Africa campaign but they were extensively employment by the Red army as a cavalry tank(6pdr armed mk IXs)until the very end of the war, and in the British army valentines armed with 75mm guns (mk Xs I believe)were still used as command vehicles in Archer batteries until the end of the war in Europe. When Soviet cavalry units poured into Manchuria and northern Korea it was the valentine that lead the spearhead against the majority of the Japanese army's tank strength.
