I truly felt, deep down in my soul, the “There’s not even a screw in there”. Also, as my high school shop teacher told us “A grinder and paint can make you the welder you ain’t!”. As for a screwdriver, I recommend the Dewalt kinetic screwdriver. It’s the 8v Max off the top of my head.

Second the DeWalt DCF680 G2 - It’s got clutch settings that go very low - it means it’s perfect also for delicate work and small machine screws in ie plastic - where most others have too much power combined with hard clutch settings, even with the clutch setting at “1”

This looks like it was a fun project! For an electric screwdriver, I use the Milwaukee 2101-22 1/4" hex screwdriver. It will accept all your 1/4" hex bits, has two speeds and an adjustable clutch (also has a drill position on the clutch). Here's an idea for your floor tracks (if you ever need to do something like this again). Where I work, we used to have some IMAX film projectors that would move in and out from their "home" position for loading/unloading and maintenance. They used an inverted angle and V-groove wheels just like you did, but only on one side. The other side was a length of flat stock and regular wheels. The theory is you only need the angle to guide the one side, and if you use angle on both sides, you have to make sure they're absolutely parallel the entire length or you get binding (one side will start to ride up). With the flat stock on one side, there's no need for absolute precision. Keep up the fun and interesting videos!

For an electrical screwdriver you may want to look at the Bosch Professional 06019H2102. 5Nm of torque. Alternatively the Fanttik S1 Pro with 6Nm. I‘m using the Bosch for a while now and its okay. But do not expect them to be as powerful as an 18-20V screw gun.

Great idea for a shop work desk. I too don't like using laptops. I recently picked up a HP 800 Elitedesk desktop PC it came with an I7 processor 32 megs of ram and a 1tb hard drive. It's small enough and doesn't take up much room. To go along with it I picked up a 42" 4k Samsung monitor. The large monitor works great for designing. There is plenty of real estate so everything isn't crammed onto a small screen. I use a HP laserjet printer. The laser printer is so much better than an inkjet, no ink cartridge to dry out. I really enjoy your videos too. I'm going to try out Milanote right now i have all my projects in a wire bound note book.

I have mostly ridgid 18v stuff, but years ago I picked up a 12v Bosch driver. Has a 1/4” quick connect for bits and a clutch you can set, doesn’t spin too fast, awesome for all kinds of small screwing jobs. And from ages ago I have a small set of drill bits with a 1/4” hex shank, so I can grab those if I just need to do a lightweight job around the house. Later I picked up the Bosch 13v cordless router too. Awesome for that 1/8” round over….

I use a cordless drill and use the torque settings on it set according to the size screw Required for the job. I have found that powered screwdrivers just don’t have the torque necessary many time to drive a screw home in wood and you just have to wind up using it as a regular screwdriver.

What I have seen made here in Thailand when they use the V groove wheels for heavy metallic portal, they use a round piece of solid iron, maybe 8mm in diameter, to reinforce the pointy bit of the angle iron. Also, if you print a lot, I would be concerned that the printer may overheat (laser printers get hot to fuse the toner).

Great project. I ccant help but think that putting two non-rotating red casters on the back would have been a better long-term choice. You could have run them each in between two pairs of "angle steels."
@evilketchupcow718010 ай бұрын
If you orient the drawers on the bottom the same way you pull out the desk you could still use them with the desk only half pulled out. The keyboard tray would be in the way of the top drawer but you could probably just use a shelf there... Or hide it so you have to pull the desk all the way out to access that 1 drawer. And if you're anything like me a little of wood behind the monitor... so when you pull the desk out to fast it can only fall in 1 direction

I have an Ikea Jerker, the world's most deskular desk, literally bulletproof (in certain places, for certain bullets). It's built not a whole lot similar to your frame but there's one key detail I I've always wanted to change but I don't have much of any tools. Like yours, the Jerker has a square tube that goes across, near the front, and like yours it's clear from the rest of the construction that this is just not a particularly important piece, but it does occupy about an inch and a quarter of vertical space directly above my thighs. I'm touching it right now. I'm not sure anything is actually needed there, but a flat-bar bolting to the desktop would do fine, maybe a real thin triangle tube built out of some flat-bar, and probably it could be pushed back several inches. Since you're putting that keyboard tray in, this vertical space is more valuable as the keyboard has to clear it. With the square bar and the keyboard tray you have a lot of vertical distance between the desktop and the top of your leg space. Maybe this doesn't annoy you like it annoys me, I've had this Jerker for approximately 20 years so it's had time to grind on me.
@WesleyTreat10 ай бұрын
