This was quite possibly one of the finest blitz exhibitions I've seen, quite a remarkable match for both players. To see Alireza play at such a high level, so consistently, against one of the best of all time, is an inspiration. The accuracy of his moves, combined with usually a lead on the clock, put the pressure on the WC and kept it on until the end. Bravo to both masters, and props to Magnus for the live commentary during the stream. This was one for the ages!

Absolutely! Agreed. Carlsen's strength is not just his Chess ability but also his character. Let's hope Alireza matures into a stable, consistent force so we can watch some real drama! He's got a long road ahead of him. There's no doubt he's got the talent for it though. I feel for now the only guy who can give us an exciting WC match is Nepo, but I have a hunch that even if he beats Magnus once he's gonna be content and lose his drive so it won't develop into a long rivalry.

Magnus is at the point where he doesn't have anything more to prove to anybody,so it gets a bit difficult to train harder like before, on the other hand, I saw Ali's after match interview and he said he always thinks and play chess, probably 14-18 hrs a day. Carlsen is multitasking classical, rapid and blitz. Firouzja ability to premove makes him good online player. In blitz over the board that advantage doesn't exist. Respect for both of them. Carlsen is acknowledging Firouzja speed and tactical play during the game. But also his own superior strategy understanding. That's the current difference Firouzja has to surpass.
@55dengen3 жыл бұрын
Good observation. That’s the main difference it seems. Every game pressure was on Carlsen to increase his speed. It always seemed Firouzja would be a bit quicker. That seemed to have psychologically got to Carlsen and emotionally made him unable to think like he is use to.

14:12 was a strange blunder missed by both players. Unless Magnus has some tactical refutation that I'm not seeing for ...Bxe3 because if he recaptures then Bg4 wins his queen. I say it's a strange blunder because with the queen offsides like that, looking to trap it is very natural. Their tactical radars must have had some interference in that moment. I actually thought Ali played Qg8 for that purpose when I first saw the move.

One thing is clear that Alireza understands that the pawns and Knights can be the most powerful pieces on the board if you know deeply how to use them.

That was a good contest. It came down to the wire, it's good that Alireza can push Magnus like this, i think it'll set up an amazing rivalry for years to come and make both of them even stronger. If you don't have a true rival who can beat you sometimes the game is not challenging and it becomes empty victories. I think by the way Magnus was reacting he wanted this badly. It doesn't mean he played his best or that Alireza is better. The last game Magnus could have also won and then we wouldn't be saying negative shit about Magnus. Point is both are extremely strong and if they played again in blitz next time maybe Magnus wins it by 1 game. This is good though, it's like Borg v McEnroe or like Nadal v Djokovic and of course Kasparov v Karpov. Great rivalries where wins are exchanged and each player is pushed to the limits. It's true that Alireza will get stronger but so can Magnus.

I agree though believe Alireza is pretty much untouchable already. How does he go from losing to Wei Yi in speed chess roughly a year ago to beating Magnus in two different speed chess controls in less that a month? And that knight sac to beat Fabiano 2 months ago. wow I thought Magnus would win with the slower time control of 3 minutes.

I believe Magnus started this match with losing attitude! After only 2min he started frowning and giving this negative vibe instead being playful and positive like he always is! I feel like all this fuss( deserved btw) that Alireza fans make online, got into Magnus's head and made him timid or even fearful instead of enjoying the game and new challengers! Alireza is amazing player, and he showed in the last few encounters with Magnus his strenght and talent, but I truly believe that still no one is on Magnus's level! Greetings from Montenegro!

Blitz/Bullet formats are completely different from standard time controls. Blitz tactics are effectively refuted when these higher rated players have time to calculate variations. Best at blitz in a few years, perhaps. But strategic/conventional time controls favor the more mature/experienced player. If Firouzja improves his positional/strategic understanding, then he can rise to such anticipated heights.

Tony Sanchez Firouzja already top 20 in the world in classical format at 16. And rapidly improving. He’s on the path to next world champion.
@defer1144 жыл бұрын
@@MyKingBee1 You can never tell something like that. Carlsen was #4 in the world at 17 and won one of the strongest tournaments of all time. Many people thought Wei Yi would break Carlsens record for the youngest 2800 player of all time but he stagnated. Only time will tell if Alireza continues to improve at this pace.

@@defer114 At 16 years old Carlsen played his first Tata Steel tournament. He finished near last. At 16, Fiouzja played his first Tata Steel, and beat everybody other than the players who have had an official rating over 2800. One year later, Carlsen is dominant force. Lets see what happens to Firouzja in 1 year. Remember though his current lockdown, and Firouzja's lack of fide rated classical tournament play, is going to hamper his progress. But chess understanding wise, I think he will be too strong for even top 10 players at classical in 1 year..

@@joedorben3504 I think it's too soon, he has a big bridge to cross, he's only 2720, Carlsen was 2786 when he was 17, so Alireza has to make like 65 elo in the next year to match what Carlsen did, its a big ask, but he has the talent so we will see. Classical is the hardest to master, big difference between classical and blitz. But things are looking great for Alireza.

Not to sound biased but Carlsens wins seems much more clean, when Alireza wins it's often an equal game where he flags or Magnus blunders. Low on time (like 20 secs each) Magnus can't keep up with Alireza, only the future will tell if Alireza can turn this insane fast calculation/strong intuition into an engine like super GM in classical. Alireza will be top player that's sure, but don't think he's dethroning Magnus in slower time formats in the first 4 years
