The freebirds will always be my favorite tag team. I dont care if they were heels or baby faces, they were rockstars in my eyes and their feud with the von erichs is the stuff of legends. Buddy the veteran mat technician, bam bam the enforcer and michael hayes the charismatic mouth piece. It just worked so well.

I am a huge Free Bird fan. Especially Terry Gordy. Ive seen tons of docs on the Birds. Especially Terry. And some on Mike. But rarely any on Buddy Jack. TY. Very much. And you missed the Mike Graham angle in Florida in 85.

In the Gordy video, you said Roberts went back to Canada between his Georgia and Texas stints (1981-1982) without further explanation. There's no records whatsoever of any matches or any other activity for over 15 months. That's consistent with someone disappearing to serve time. I've never heard any such stories. I have heard stories that he spent that time working on an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico. As part of those stories, he returned to the business after he traveled to Texas to visit Hayes and was informed that there was a spot for him in the programs they were running in World Class.

I came across an interview with Roberts conducted a year or two before he passed and he mentioned working some matches in Canada and going "back home". I took that to mean Canada, but I suppose at that point "back home" could have been Texas or Oklahoma. Roberts did have a couple of times he was essentially retired before he finally did officially retire.

A friend of mine, who knew Gordy said Gordy said he couldn't have taken Roberts in shoot. Roberts was a legit shooter. He knew an old carny wrestling move where you hit a nerve in the thigh and it made your leg go dead.

I know Buddy's stay in Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling wasn't a long one, but man were he and Brown over. Fans absolutely HATED them. Even though they held the Mid-Atlantic tag title, they rarely appeared in main events for some reason. (To be fair, the MA Tag Title was pretty much a secondary title at that point.) I was hoping for a Blondes vs. Ole and Gene Anderson feud over the World title, but it never happened.

I don't know about never, but there was the time they ribbed him by putting a dead possum in his bag with his gear. He got them back by wearing the trunks in the ring smelling of dead possum.
