Whenever eric hansen analyses his own game there is a increased passion/quality to it. His non-games analysed positions are good but when he does his own thats a whole new level. Would be nice to see erics stuff more in the futtue. rather than *insert random GM* games that had been covered a million times already.

+Samsara NoMas When you sit down at the board and play a game you're fully emotionally and intellectually invested in every single detail of the position. So when you come to presenting an analysis of it, your passion and insight is so much more intense than if you were presenting another player's game. That's what makes it better.

I don't know whether it's the game or the way Eric presented it, but the entire time this feels like an awesome thriller that keeps me on the edge of my seat. Add a few well-placed jokes, and this lecture became very entertaining... Well done.

Totally agree with all the previous positive comments. It is the best video lecture I've ever seen because it's instructive in so many ways. This first hand account, shows how Hansen plays the board but also takes his opponent's strengths and weaknesses and his own strengths and weaknesses into the decision making process.

I really like Eric's analysis of his positions. He explains the ideas behind every move. Much like Yasser, who is equally thorough with his analysis. Being told the ideas and the thought process behind eliminating many variations during the game is extremely instructive to me and something to aspire to. I also think he played absolutely magnificently in this game.

That Qb3 move is actually the one I always play when a similar variation takes place in the Ponziani opening: 1.- e4 e5 2.- Nf3 Nc6 3.- c3 Nf6 4.- d4 exd4 5.- e5 Nd5 6,- Qb3 Nb6 This is one of the variation that arise from the Ponziani opening when black takes the d pawn instead of taking the e pawn with the knight, I've studied this variation with the help of a chess engine and Qb3 is the strongest move.

Why not rook to e8 instead at 33:32? That was Eric's original plan, after all. Both of black's bishops are pinned, black's rook is stuck on the back rank, black's king is stuck defending the f8 bishop, and black's queen is stuck defending the g7 pawn. Am I missing something?
