The USA Hockey brain trust along with the ridiculous Team NA doomed the US. Could have had Matthews, Eichel, Larkin, Trocheck, Kessel, Kreider, Johnson upfront and Jones on D with Gibson backing up Quick. The six forwards from actual Team USA would be Kane, Kesler, Pacioretty, Wheeler, Parise and Brown. Much faster team with enough grit still.

US was really hurt by the NA 23 Team. If no 23 Team existed you could have had 2 evenly split, competitive USA teams playing Russia and Sweden. US would have not been competitive against Canada though. Canada was stacked and the best US Team (sure as he'll not this one) would have been significant underdogs but capable of an upset if Quick plays to his max.

US was totally screwed with 2 things. One of their own making and the other the tourney format. First the brain trust and Torts opted to leave off Kreider, Kessel and Tyler Johnson in favor of complete stiffs in Abdelkader and Dubinsky...lol. The tourney screwed the US even more with The 23 & under North American Team. US lost Matthews, Eichel and Larkin up front. That's almost half your forwards, so they were far more handicapped than any country in the tourney. Pacioretty - Eichel - Kessel Parise - Kesler - Wheeler Pavelski- Matthews - Kane Kreider - Larkin - Callahan Brown - JT Miller -

Such a terrible tournament that was for the US, don't know if the players just didn't give a shit about it or if it was Torts but man that was an embarrassing showing. Hopefully at the next World Cup there's no Team Europe or Team North America that way the likes of Matthews,Galchenyuk and others can crack the US roster. Also leaving Phil Kessel off of this roster was just criminal.

I know, i agree. Phil always rips it at international tourneys for the US. They really struggled defensively though, that was the problem. Turnovers, odd mans and puck battles were the issue
