Neil the Seal is in a bit of a risky situation unfortunately. Because he is an Elephant seal, he can and will get twice the size he is now. During the breeding season he will be extra aggressive and will have the size and weight to really hurt someone or do serious property damage. His getting used to being around people is therefore problematic because if he becomes a danger to people, he will most likely be euthanized. To the people of Tasmania, please please stay a safe distance away. Use zoom on your smartphone if you want pictures. I know it's tempting to wanna touch. Id be so tempted, but for Neil's sake we must resist! And be careful not to provide him any food, intentionally or unintentionally. Stay safe Neil!

Norman worked for me in my warehouse for over fifteen years. I don't think he ever came to work on time in fifteen years. His monthly absenteeism percentage was the highest in a company of over 300 employees every month for fifteen years. But he was a hard worker, honest, and just the nicest person. His wife, however, was another story. The very definition of a Harpie. She nagged him every day. He had six children, all in school. He owned a car and a large Toyota pickup truck. My business was out in the country, and Norman lived not too far away on a little farm. Each day at 5:30 PM, his wife would pull into the warehouse parking lot in the pickup truck with kids in the front and in the truck bed, and she would park right under the window where Norman's warehouse desk was. Then she would lean her head out the driver's side of the truck and begin to scream, yes scream, NORMAN!! NORMAN!! Until he came out with his lunch bucket. This was Norman's life, his family, and his world record late at work all the time and monthly absenteeism. Then, one day, all was forgiven by me because "it" happened. Norman called into the warehouse office with another of his one-million excuses for why he would be late to work. A bear was sleeping in front of his front door, and he was afraid to go outside. I just said "ok" and returned to work laughing at this. So he showed up at the warehouse later that afternoon six hours after he was supposed to come to work. I was in a bad mood and, in front of other employees, began to make fun of him for his ridiculous excuses, and perhaps I got a little carried away. Then it happened. Norman pulled out of his jeans hip pocket the afternoon edition of the local newspaper, and there on the front page at the top was a picture of a bear in front of Norman's front door and an article about how the local Department of Fish and Game had to move the bear. Years after this, I gave up on Norman's excuses and accepted whatever he said.
