I've been threatening to do this for a while, and here it is. The first in what will hopefully be a series of videos for newcomers to World of Tanks (and veteran players for whom the obvious needs pointing out). Starting off with the real basics - angling your armour, visibility and camoflage. This is how to not suck.
System Specs: 3.07Ghz i7 CPU, 12GB DDR3 RAM, 680GTX graphics card, running at 1920x1080 resolution.

I'm 42, it's hard to be consistent after all that alcohol and drug-related brain damage. Tired of being flamed by all these high-stat kids. We should have our own status. Leave us alone - we're old and trying our best! I shine my two Kolobanov medals every day, but the young uns only look at WN8 !

At 6:39, you mention that Fritz earns 50% of Ivan's damage done. It might be usefull to know that if Fritz's brother Heinz is also spotting the enemy tank, each only gets 25% (it's shared amonst all spotters). Also, since Ivan doesn't spot the tank himself, he gets less xp and credits. Even less if the target is beyond 300m. (This is why arties get such poor exp and credits.)

+SeedlingNL And this is why it pays to buy the best radio from the tech tree even if it seems too expensive. Relay spotting can work over really long distances if both you and the guy you are relaying to have long radio ranges. You might think a tier VIII radio is too expensive for a tier IV scout tank, but if the big guns on your team are all far away, you can still show them where the enemy is because of your outrageous radio range. Your arty's will be smashing them and they won't understand how they are even being seen.

I've just installed XVM. I've noticed so far that 'good' players are not in fact 'team'players. Often hanging back in obscurity, or not bothering to stop a cap in progress if it looks like they'll get killed.

Nautilus1972 and that is why i dont care about stats or any of that bullshit. stats dont reflect your ability to play the game when taking your team into consideration, you just farm a especific thing(kills) to get ahead of everyone else, just so that the community doesn't harass you. And by that, you couldnt care less about teamplay or objectives at all. i give you one example, being one of the few guys that actually wants to defend a especific area in order to get more map control (in where most of your team didnt care about it), you end up being killed and sacrificing yourself for the team, so that the other guys get all the xp and money, and they get called "heroes" while you are just "another player". And that goes to most of the streamers out there with amazing stats. they just farm stuff with APCR (2 gud 4 u), not caring about objectives or the team itself. just a point of view.

Isn't that what everyone says when they get killed? Hacks? LOL. Though I'm pretty sure one game I played they were hackers because when it's 2 seconds into the game, your team hasn't even had a chance to move off the base and you start taking hits and lose 25% of your team in under 20 seconds then you know something isn't right. Very helpful video Jingles. :)

Definitely! There are, for want of a better description, "visibility points" all over your tank, and enemy tanks have a number of "observation points" in certain places. A clear line of sight between any of the two and you get spotted. That bush has to cover your whole tank from view.

Many thx for this as I'm just getting started playing WoT. It was yours and SideStrafe's postings that got me interested in playing games again after nearly 15 years since I last played anything. Coming from my very, very early times of playing Avalon Hill and SPI board war games in the 70's and 80's, WoT has been a fun experience. Hope to see a tank driving skills video soon.

This video was wonderful. The pop up commentary, funny one liners, and poking remarks were especially amusing. I realize this was done in a platoon training environment and was meant to be instructive, but damn if you could somehow implement all that into more of the videos, you would be unstoppable. Well, even more unstoppable than the Mighty Jingles is already...

Thats not true. I am an good player in WoT, my stats are not bad there. I knew directly how to not suck in Warthunder. The most player there are these WoT-Kiddys who want to play the big bad germans. They think because Warthunder is realistic, they will kill easly everthing with german tanks. Its easyier to kill them in WT thant in WoT. Thats true, Warthunder is very different but the basics are the same. I am not a bad player in WoT and Warthunder.
@dmitrijschmidt3870
@dmitrijschmidt3870 10 жыл бұрын
You just have to be more carefully there and you will camp with TD´s and heavy tanks more times than in WoT. If you have the same tactic-feeling than in WoT, you will get very much kills. Of course i suck somethimes in WT. But that does every player in every game. Just play smart, know your tank and the enemy tanks and think before you take action. ~like in WoT

The spotting mechanics of this game are fail at best. I just left a match where a kv1 killed the tank in front of me and rolled right up to be and neither of us spotted him until he was 15 feet in front of me! The other vehicle did not see him period! No reason it should have happened at all! There was no cover for the kv1 at all. To even get to us he would have had to cross a very large open area! That should not happen, but happens more and more lately, something is going on! Was not even the weirdest thing that happened in that match!

+Jay Berry This guy is FULL OF SHIT. First of all, even if you "angle your armor," experienced players know to shoot you in the tracks and side. If you have a tank with average to lower armor, you're going to go up in flames. Secondly, a LOT of times it doesn't matter what your reticle's color is. I had the reticle on several of my tanks show RED, and the shot did NOTHING (with the voice saying "we only dinged them" or "we didn't penetrate them." It bounces, or simply hits the tank and does no damage. About the only thing you can count on is that if you try shooting before your round 'ready to fire' reticle is not completely focused in, there is no telling where your shot will go even if you're aiming directly at the tank. And, I've got 'Dead Eye' on one of my tanks that is supposed to give you some indication on where to shoot a tank whose armor has been compromised by several hits. I have YET to figure out what I'm looking for and cannot discern any difference at all. Also, RELOAD time is critical. A slow reload is DEADLY in this game, AND slow reloads are endemic on LARGE caliber guns. And large caliber guns are usually on LARGE, LUMBERING tanks which can't maneuver well. I play my T-29 like a sniper. I have good camo, long range finder, and 'Muffled Shot' which is SUPPOSED to keep you hidden after you've fired off a round and NOT expose where you are (though I wonder sometimes if even that is working like it should). If faster medium tanks come at you in a T29, you're dead meat. Even with a 105mm, you're going to have almost an 11 second load time, and that's 11 seconds two or three mediums can pump rounds into you. So, take my advice, get as far away from the action as you can, and fire long distance shots. Let the light and mediums spar all they want. I also see guys with "ventilator" fans in their equipment list, but for the life of me I never experienced any benefit from them. So, I don't use them. A RELOADER and LATHE is your best friend because reloading the acquiring your target FAST is the key. Forget about maneuvering. Once you get into higher tiers your opponents are too good to let a running tank fuck them up. You run, you get nailed. And, if you are unfortunate to run up against one of these fucking 'WALLET WARRIORS' who have enough loot buy PREMIUM GOLD AMMO, it won't matter WHAT you're in or what you do. They will penetrate your tank in just a few shots (if not but ONE). So, my advice is to NOT LISTEN to these supposed "experts" because they're full of shit. Learn to play your own game.

Just to clarify. The makers have stated that within 15m of a bush you can see through it without being spotted (works out to be when the bush is see through) but if you fire within 15m of that bush all bushes within 50m will be nonexistant to an enemy when you fire. Which means its best to hide in a bush, spot the enemy, then back up to when you the bush isnt ghosted then fire to prevent the enemy from seeing you

Great video Jingles. Very useful tips that I was able to pick up from your other videos. I only have one remark at 3:05 - 45mm of armour sloped back at 60 degrees from the vertical is 90mm of effective armour (disclaimer - Math and I are not friends so I sat down and measured - 60 degree angle doubles the thickness).

Let me add a small tip. You do not even need this little Friz at all. Find an enemy behind a bush, then before attacking him, roll back so far as the bush Beckham visible again in you sniper scope. And again to show the enemy, make the bushes invisible in the sniper scope.

Never trust anyone in a random battle to do anything even remotely sensible. Always expect them to do the worst possible thing in any given situation, so that when they do, you're ready for it. Platoons for the WIN!

(pt.2) Also some tanks (high tier Russian mediums in particular) have fuel stored in the front of the hull. so that will contribute to you being set on fire from the front too... if your driving a tank with this issue I recommend getting crew skills to prevent fires and using automatic fire extinguishers (the F.E will pay off because it will reduce chance of fire by 20%. and save your modules when you do get set on fire.) Hope this helped.

It's because you have two things in front of you, the second bush completely blocks line of sight, greatly reducing view range beyond 50m. This means that it was a team-mate spotting that tank, not you, so if the team-mate broke line-of-sight with it then you would no longer be given the tanks position by the team-mate and the tank would disappear. If you are getting hit by tanks whilst behind a bush it may be due to your tank having a poor camo rating or being spotted by a flanking enemy scout.

Jingles, as a new player, I really liked this video and especially like the parts in your other videos where you point out the weak spots on tanks. Is there any chance you could do some videos where you point out how best to utilize the different tank classes (light/med/hvy/TDs) on each map. For example pointing out good TD spots or where heavy tanks should go and mistakes that noobs make on the maps? I feel like some games I get into a map and have no idea where to go.

Figure out at which angle the side armour's effective thickness is equal to the front armour's effective thickness. There are calculations on the wiki page. Its kinda hard as you have to take into account both the slope of the armour and the angle you are at. But basically you just want to make sure you don't turn too far so that your side armour is easy to pen. If you notice, people are penning your side despite being in front of you, turn back a bit and force them to shoot the front

Do what the Fritz did basically, spot for the other tanks, take shots only when every one else is reloading or distracted, don't shoot at frontal armor, try to flank them. Keep moving or in cover.

Well, if you are 15 meters away from the bush, you will ruin your own camo rating (It will go down to 15%), but if the enemy is far enough away, the bush's camo rating will still hide you. If you are less than 15 meters away, you will be down to 15% of your camo rating and the bush will be out of play for a bit. However, you can still be spottet if you're behind the bush (Closer or further than 15 meters) without shooting, depending on your camo rating and the enemies view rangeanddistancetoyou.

TI am sure people have mentioned it, but the Germans in WWII angled their armor too. I just read a book, Panzer Gunner: From My Native Canada to the German Osfront and Back. In Action with 25th Panzer Regiment, 7th Panzer Division 1944-45. He writes about angling the armor of a Pz IV at oncoming T-34s. As a side note it is a very good book too. So zee Germans have been angling their armor years. .

Copying and pasting an earlier answer to the same question here: What's happening in most cases is you ARE penetrating, but what you're penetrating is just spaced armour. The shot's not going through the hull armour on the other side because it doesn't have enough energy left, so - no damage. or Your shot penetrates, hits a module, destroys or damages the module, doesn't have enough energy left to do anything else, so, no obvious damage. Frustrating even when you know what's happening.

About that camoflage thing - you forgot to mention that light tanks don't get any penalties to camoflage when moving. Frits could run circles behind that bush and it won't make any difference to him standing still.

Ok, great video, very well made, educational and funny. I only have one gripe, when you were demonstrating the angling the armour with the Tiger, approximately the same amount of shots penetrated before the angling as after, somewhere between 1in 2 to 1 in 3 - this didnt really illustrate the point all that well.
