QB, the reason STA-2 looks more like a type 61 than STA-1 is that it is part of the development of the type 61. In 1957 and 1958, the STA-1 and STA-2 were developed as prototype vehicles of a new tank. They used these to test, and then developed the STA-3 and STA-4, which finally became the type 61 in 1961. Only one year later, the STB project would start.

I'm on the Xbox one and I just bought this tank as I'm finally going down the STB 1 line. (Loving the gun depression as I mainly play Russian mediums). On consoles we have PMM. I've had some great games in it so far. Can't imagine putting this gun in a tier 10 match though as I bounce a lot of shots as it is.

Leaning slightly toward this one. That gun mantlet makes it ideal for many maps with hills and undulations. The camo I do expect to be quite good.

You mentioned that the AMX CDC would have been able to make penetrations where the STA-2 did not, however, early in the game, movement in the open for an extended period of time would have killed the CDC with all those tanks shooting. The only advantage the CDC has is speed, if you could get from rock to rock using bounding movements to try to avoid getting hit from the left is the only way it would survive.

STA-2 was PERFECT for me. I haven't got any previous japanese tanks, and if I were to grind up them I'd train crew for gold several times to move the crew up into the next tier tank. Probably not on the low tiers, but definetly on tier 8, 9 and 10. And the gold for this almost makes up half the price of the STA-2. I'd save some gold on not having to convert XP (but I'd convert some anyway to not play bog stock guns). But I get XP from Tier 10s and other stuff as well, which I use to free-XP up the japanese line (while I train female crew in STA-2). So for me, STA-2 was a perfect addition to the game. I'll probably get the CDC though as well, for when I'm grinding free-XP for the batchat, since its matchmaking weight is lower than the 50t and thus platoons of CDC's are easier to have good WR's in than 50t platoons. Oh, and the STA-2 now is my main money-maker, because my other prems are slow, and the 275 pen on the STA-2 is awesome (two STA-2 in a platoon can rip through the sole top tier T54 before he reaches the hill on the west side of serene coast with heat, then go about finishing the rest of the match with normal ammo and making a hefty profit).

It is to run every game. But it is also an issue as you have to sacrifice a consumable. Feel like burning to death? Tank has no armor. But still yet, this is like the test server where everyone shoots gold ammo, you aren't getting a realistic, unbiased look at the tank if you run premium everything. I just think as a review I would like to see it 100% crew, no consumable version, then perhaps a consumable driven one...

Christopher Harper If you buy it, it's probably because you're already going up the japanese mediums or even allready got the tier 10. You will therefor be using a much better crew than available on the test server and premium consumables compensates for that.

I expect this tank will either get preferential mm or recieve some kind of buff. They might make an error ie with the Panther 88 and have to massively reduce the price. Speaking of the Panther 88, it and the T-34-3 are the other tier 8 mediums available other than the Super P

I was hoping for a much better review, not that your review was bad, just that the tank isn't going to be what I was hoping for... I did like the credits it seems to get but to buy this tank strictly for would be crazy since I have the T34 which is amazing at earning credits... I will wait to see if WG buffs the pen on this gun or gives the tank pref. match making, if they do that I would consider buying it, even though I am working the Japanese line atm I don't think I want to buy this quite yet. I don't think that the fact that premium ammo costs and that it sees tier X will scare most off. Just about everyone regardless of WN8 shoots gold ammo on the IS-6 and SP. due to their high gold pen, and not due to their income. So I say if they really want a crew trained. 275 pen will just about do it since its not THAT different form the STA-1 on paper.

I think another premium Tier 8 medium for the Americans would be the M47 Patton with the 90mm M36, which has 172mm of pen. With about as much mobility as a Patton, the armor of a Patton and a gun worse than the Pershing, it would be balanced.

I have the Panther 8.8, AMX CDC and the STA-2. The CDC sacrifices too much for mobility. When you get spotted you become the number one target, a big fat paper tank everyone likes to shoot at. The Panther8.8 lacks mobility and gun depression. It's not an entertaining tank to play because in addition to the enemy you are constantly finding yourself fighting your tank's shortcomings. The STA-2 is the most balanced tank out of the 3, firepower, mobility, armor protection. It's the only one with enough armor to give you a chance to bounce enemy shots. It has a good gun, 185 pen is not that bad, yes you have to use gold against higher tier heavies to guarantee penetration. Not any different from some other tier 8 mediums and even some heavies (IS6, WZ-111 etc) IMO the STA-2 is a solid tier 8 premium tank and hope WOT will not mess with it in the future.

You talk about training crew....ok so you get crew to 100% then you swop them to a new tank and they drop to 80% is that normal or am I doing wrong. . Plus when you tick the train crew faster after you have researched the next tank is it on there 1 St 2nd 3rd skill or just up to the100%

you don't get the "crew swapping" penalty in a premium tank as long as that crew was from a vehicle with the same class as the premium tank (for example you can put your 100% crews of STB-1 to this STA-2 without worrying to need to retrain them when you put it on STA-2 or when you put it back to STB-1 too)

Pershing has a good/troll turret + good gun depression to compensate. T-44 has ''okay-ish'' everything else + the best mobility for a medium on it's tier and great matchmaking weight T-34-2 has been neglected candidate for a buff since release. T69 is an autoloader ( Thus ''easy'' to abuse ) + 54/7 capable tank with full heat layout.

In my opinion it's not really worth it. The STA-1 is not strictly superior or inferior and is in too many ways the same tank. On the other hand, the CDC seems really interesting, having that superb mobility and reliable gun. Also the fact that both the mediums get an unreliable armor, having that extra speed is very important to get out from undesired situations.

T-44 has better but still bad gun depression compared to the T-34-2. The T-34-2 is however a buff candidate. The T-44 isn't a comparable tank anyway and is very hard to use effectively and unpopular because of it. ( and the fact that it requires playing the T-43 to get it and that the tier 10 tank it leads to can be obtained through grinding through other easier to play lines. )

Pershing has more powerful engine but ground resistance is worse. Top speed is only 3 km/h better than on STA-2. Size is about the same.

.T-34-2 has 181mm penetration paired with terrible gun handling, terrible depression, terrible hull armour and a decent albeit unreliable turret. ( due to large flat sections next to the gun ) If you think it has good terrain resistances to compensate I'd have to say... not really.

While I'm a huge fan of the STA-1 and think it's one of the best tier 8 medium tanks in WoT at the moment the STA-2 is a weak underpowered vehicle at tier 8. Certainly for a premium tank it's currently not ready for release on the live server. The mobility is ok and the armour is none existent but what kills this vehicle stone dead is the lousy 185 penetration on the gun. This is simply not acceptable for a premium tier 8 vehicle without preferential matchmaking. And then having the balls to give it something like 275 pen with premium ammo ensuring that you'll have to spam premium to win matches while this loses you tons of money (why you would drive premium in the first place) is just plain wrong. Before this vehicle is released in 9.6 the penetration on the gun for standard ammo needs to be buffed to at least 210 to make it competitive. At the current time I'd advise everyone to NOT buy this vehicle until this is fixed.

I think 210mm penetration might just be a little to much as long as non premium tier 8 tanks with 180~ mm penetration guns exist. This thing should get 195mm~203mm penetration or something along those lines, that would make it playable if the accuracy is also buffed a little.

It doesn't need one, I'd rather have the T-44 reviewed for nerfs to mobility if anything. DPM across most tier 8 mediums could be improved a little they lag behind the tier 8 heavies and aren't used for tier 8 clanwars at all. The gun needs to be replaced, though. It handles stupidly well yet is laughable in terms of everything else. There is a reason there are barely any T-44's around and it's simply because the gun is not fun to use in tier 9 and up matches.The armour on it is fine as long as the mobility is nerfed to a more appropriate level. There is no reason why it should be this mobile with such heavy armour weighing it down. The armour without the mobility isn't OP anyway unlike the T-54 anything a tier or two lower has a decent chance of penetrating it from most angles with the exclusion of D-25-T users.

Seems there is no point in getting the STA-2. Btw.if it's not purely for credit income I wouldn't recommend any T8 prem tank without preferable MM. Playing against T9 at max while making just a few less credits is much more enjoyable. (My personal experience from 1000 T26E4 SP and 500 battles with T-34 and IS-6 each.)

I disagree that 185mm penetration is in any way bad. It's better than about half of the t8 mediums in the game. You say "it's not going to reliably penetrate the frontal hull of most heavy tanks it will meet" like it's a bad thing. Rather than suggesting things like picking your fights carefully, playing a support role, or choosing the right moment to engage, you say "the only way to compete with higher tier tanks will be to fire premium rounds at them". It's almost like you expect to be able to penetrate any tank with any other tank within 2 tiers, from any angle, and see nothing wrong with that scenario. On a side note, you got very lucky in that first minute on Karelia. One tracking shot and you'd probably not have made it to safety. Even with a repair kit used immediately, given the less than good acceleration of the tank, the game would've ended with ~240 dmg at most. I guess it's the effect of the accuracy nerf? Well, if it means this kind of risky play will be rewarded more often, I'm all for it.

It is being said the WOT are planning to get rid of the Aufklarungs Panther: This really sucks! Why?? A really interesting tank and thus a game enhancer. I know many hate it but others love it. But isn't that the strength of this game over others? The real depth of choice; where not only ar there so many beautifully individual tanks of all shapes and sizes but even more important; there are DIFFERENT right choices and approaches. This and the logical customizing mean that you have a game with the perfect blend of focus on the Game (tank) and the player (every game is different) and open to surprise 'until the fat lady sings'.

Well the STA-1 is already one of the most horrible tanks. Sure it got good pen and a ROF thats very slightly better than other tier 8 meds. However, that's all you get. It's slow, it's HUGE, it has a tumor sticking out on the turret. It has no armor. It's accuracy is poor and lastly it trolls you so hard when trying to shoot with it. It never goes where you want it to go. Even if you're top tier, you feel like bottom tier. So they made an STA-2 premium. They thought: Since the STA-1 is so crappy, let's make an even more crappier version by using the worst tier 8 med as an inspiration. At least the T-44 has speed and good traverse speed to get around. The only redeeming factor is that people try to shoot sta's with HE thinking they can pen their HE shells. :P However, I am sure a lot of you skilled players can make the STA-1 work. I just can't and hate it with a passion.

Leon Haven i call superpershing the T34-3 counter tank... in T34-3 you dont have penn to go trought the hull and spaced armor eats the HEAT also its too inaccurate to shoot the tubes/other weakspots. So if i cant flank the SP and im not hulldown i have to run. In most other tanks i eat superpershings tho

so basically there's no reason o get this tank other then training since you wont be making a lot of money because of heat spam. the funny thing is you also get crew training from playing the stb 1 which is always top tier and doesn't need to fire perm ammo. I feels like there's not enough of a reason to buy prem tanks anymore I mean prem tanks are always worse then normal tanks and since wg said they aren't going to put in any more preferential matchmaking tanks anymore then I think id rather just play the free tanks in the game.
