No sweat, man. Things are drastically different. I realized just how large a gap there is for some players when I spoke with a guildie in mumble a few weeks ago. I had to try to explain to them that unlike current WoW and seemingly most MMOs these days you didn't start as one specialist class that then specializes further and gets handed a coherent kit. No, from level 1 to level whatever, you have this whole toolbox of abilities and are the same as every other [your class] BUT your talent selection can suddenly make some moves way better or give you new moves that suddenly lead you into a rotation or style of play. Mages in pvp could afford to fake enemies out with baiting a kick into arcane missiles only to reveal they're frost and going to murder you by abusing the different school lockouts. Some rogues might use a weird-seeming niche split spec just to gather the right tools for how they wanted to escort a flag carrier or gank any potential flag takers. Times were crazy, but in very different ways.

Some of those so called fans even went as far as to hope ill on the company itself. And what did Blizzard do? They _rewarded_ those same people with the Classic servers and while simultaneously started screwing people over with retail WoW with bullshit decision after bullshit decision. So no I'm not going to touch Classic with a ten foot pole. Not when BFA smoldering crater of some dev's shitty GoT fan fic.

There is way more suspense when you don't have the hectic ability spam. When you fight a mob that's a bit over level, pop your evasion as a rogue and hope you can dodge enough hits to survive. When you're about to gouge the mob so you can bandage and backstab, and just feel the pressure of "this has to land or I will die". It is so satisfying when you hit that spell. It is so satisfying when you get that one crit heal when you're almost oom and the tank really needs it. There is less going on, so the things that are going on feel more meaningful, and you can really take it all in. There aren't 3000 azerite procs and random effects happening all at once, while your class puts out 10 damage numbers per second causing you to have no clue about what the fk is even going on.

I started playing vanilla wow on a private server about 1,5 years ago - quit six months ago about half way through Naxx as our guild was struggling with people using the guild as a stepping stone to the faster clearing guilds. Regardless. The leveling process was something i dreaded when i started because i remembered it as long and cumbersome. To some extend it also is. But in away it is an increadible relief from some of the instant satisfaction, no sense of achievement that prevails in retail. It often feels like the leveling process in retail is there just because it used to be (with character boosts it seems developers agree). But leveling in classic gives you something else. You remember how big the world is as you travel around questing, you feel like an adventurer again. You realize a sense of danger in the game as most classes are unable to handle more than two mobs at a time - and some areas have quick spawn rates, closely placed agressive mobs and so on. So you feel like there is some hardship to avoid in the leveling process. Further even non-elite quests can be insurmountable alone, and because of the long leveling progress and being bound to a single realm you will frequently find people in the area to take on these quests with. After having done the quest you might part ways, but meet up a bit later to do another quest your both on or even a couple of levels later. Eventually just the leveling progress becomes a part of the social interactions, and builds up your friendlist. You start sticking around areas where you just completed a particularly nasty quest, because someone else came along and you know how tough it was - and people will stick around to help you in such situations as well. The leveling progress is long as hell - took me 9 day of played to get to level 60 (Because of crafting as well) on a non pvp sever - and 10 days on the early stages of a pvp server because there was a lot of world pvp. I wager it can be done a lot faster if you skip professions - but for an average person that is prolly like 7 days played. But i actually didn't mind - because i seriously enjoyed the slow paced adventure sense. And trust me - i did not enjoy leveling back in the day - and i dreaded doing it. I will be enjoying the entire process again when Classic launches - and i can't wait.

@9:00 is actually a really good point no one has ever brought up. The most often sited reason for players quitting the game (at least in the past). Was their characters changing too much. It is difficult for more casual players who don't go on wowhead or mmo-champion to respond to their character all of a sudden working differently every 2 months or so. A more consistent reliable experience over a year or so may be a huge boon to those who are less inclined to seek outside resources.

@sgcandrewkard5 жыл бұрын
I'm trying to find it but trying to google "reason for quitting wow" and similar searches just give results about BFA. From what I remember it was in the MoP/WoD era. When you unsubbed it would give you a little survey and ask why you left. And blizz stated the most common response was "my class is changing too much" or something along those lines. I know it's just conjecture, but I distinctly remember this but with all the BFA drama and it being half a decade old news it's nearly impossible to find.
@Mythricia19885 жыл бұрын
@@sgcandrewkard I think that was more of a whiplast effect from Cata -> MoP -> WoD specifically. A LOT changed in the game over those two expansions, it was crazy. But I don't really think that's true anymore, changes are a bit more subtle now. No worse than they'd be otherwise. Nowhere near the claim of every 2 months or so, it's more like every 2 years or so, your class changes somewhat. Which is to be expected. If people can't keep up with that, I wonder how they can keep up with anything what so ever.

I am so beyond excited for WoW Classic. I quit playing after Cataclysm for the exact reasons you mentioned in your video: things got too complicated. I got into WoW because I loved the lore of the RTS games and loved the idea of a Warcraft RPG, not because I wanted overly complicated raids (and super-raids) with a tedium of buttons on my hotbars. It just stopped being a fun, relaxing experience. I can't wait to jump back in and play a TRUE multi-class dr00d again!

Actually i tot Vanilla WoW was much more complicated compared to Modern WoW. Correct me if im wrong, WoW may seem complicated now with many buttons, but the mechanics are pretty dumbed down and straight forward with all that automation. In vanilla WoW you actually have to read guides on completing a quest, find a party group yourself etc it feels more immersive. Everything of that was taken away in the modern WoW by the convenience of a click of a button.

At the end of the day, leveling can be a big deal breaker for a lot of people. It can get kinda bland. But I find the progression of the character in classic far more meaningful and noticeable than in the game now. So it's satisfying from that perspective. And running dungeons with friends on Discord or whatever is always fun. I dunno. I think it's worth a shot but I'd totally understand if people got tired of it before they really got their character developed to the point of being fun. It can be tedious. I've leveled 3 60's in my life, one in original vanilla, and 2 on private servers. And it can be tough. A fun class will carry the day, but sometimes that might not be enough.

I think the biggest thing about Classic WoW is the social/grouping aspect. If you plan on jumping into Classic and steamrolling everything by yourself, don't bother. You MUST look to interact with the population, or you'll be in for a world of pain/struggle. And also there's actual CHALLENGE to the game (albeit on a somewhat simpler level vs. current content), even when you're in a group. Plus, if you're truly interested in end-game (MC and beyond), expect to put a LOT of time into the game farming precursor gear, crafting, etc. All of it could be fun, if you're at a point in life where you can still put in 20 to 40 hours of gameplay in a week! I'm not, so I'll probably be looking for a very social, but very casual guild.

The difference, which I think I ramblingly tried to explain is that they are the same heal at different levels. And it's about knowing which to use based on your party skill and mana. You're clearly not putting all of them on your bar.
@Amrehlu5 жыл бұрын
But, one of the main complaints now is how many abilities they took away from us and how bare things feel. (Referring to live)
@CottidaeSEA5 жыл бұрын
@@Amrehlu Taking away things will often feel that way. I think MoP was the expansion that felt the best in terms of combat/rotations personally. There were loads of useless skills though, and those I wouldn't mind if they removed or merged with something else, but when they remove complexity in my actual rotation, that just leaves a bad taste.
@Elementroar5 жыл бұрын
@@jessecox But at end-game raiding, it's kinda meta again with downranking your heals for efficiency, and I think there were clear ranks that were considered the 'best' in terms of efficiency. It's still 'simpler', but also just as much needing to know the meta at that level. Also it's a pity that in classic, the specs that were clearly written off, like Survival Hunter, are still written off. I was a TBC Feral bear-tank, and I know that vanilla is even more bare for a bear.
@Amrehlu5 жыл бұрын
@@CottidaeSEA Agreed. Which is kinda why I can't really understand how anyone could look at spell ranks positively. It is just an outdated and very lazy system. There is no complexity to it... no rotational choices, less/no situational choices. The idea of saving mana by using weaker versions of things is just the illusion of complexity. Now we have an array of spells that heal differently; deliver the heal differently (Zone, AoE, Chain, HoT, Absorb, Direct, On-Hit, Stockpile & Dump, Cleave ect and in Classic some of those don't exist) deliver the heal more slowly but for cheaper, deliver less more quickly but at a higher cost, deliver to different amounts of targets, some smart target while others are prone to waste if you aren't using them efficiently. Plenty of complexity, and almost all of it is non-existent for Classic. Classic reminds me of what a mobile game trying to be like WoW, would be.

Wait so is classic even more simple than release? I'd heard that Wow had been dumbed down and pruned over the years and that classic was a much more complex game, is that not right? (i only joined in legion btw) The stuff he talked about here with healers is the exact content that i like in modern WoW, healing through difficult dungeons was the only actually engaging content i found, different heals for different situation, re positioning, mechanics, getting in damage when i could, the challenge is what makes it fulfilling to complete.

Classic is a joke in terms of difficulty and mechanics compared to any other expansion, people just view it with nostalgia and because they had no idea what they were doing so it was "hard". TBC was so much better than Classic and would hold up much better by todays standards than classic does.
@03blaird5 жыл бұрын
@@vradarx It wasn't hard at all by today's standards! What made it hard back then was that there were no guides/youtube videos to guide you through every damn mechanic of the fight. Was alot of trial and error but not really "hard" mechanically. That and the broken classes,gameplay and requiring 40 people to raid were the things that made it seem hard.

Make sure you get free staff damage in while regening mana or after a greater heal if you can. The instant damage really helps. Warriors, Demoralizing Shout kicks ass. Apply it first. Also remember parrying lets you swing sooner, so demo shout and pull 2 mobs, get more parries per fight.

Melee tip: Stand behind the mob your tank attacking so they don't parry reset your tank to death. You can't be parried or blocked behind the mob. Can still be dodged.

Its not rose tinted glasses man, Classic is a gem in the MMORPG genre. Every doubter has come full circle after playing for a short amount of time. I never believed I would have enjoyed playing Classic again on a private server, let alone re-setting and doing it all over again, but I did. Each time I loved it. Its brings back what an ACTUAL RPG is with a vibrant, large, and alive world and community. WoW these days doesn't actually feel like an MMO, or an RPG. It also doesn't feel rewarding or difficult. All praise Classic WoW's genius.

At the end of the day, no one is forcing you to do anything. If you want to play ret, great. Just find players who are willing to play with you. The private server folks tend to be super min/max oriented (I was one of them), but honestly, just get into a big guild of people you like and you'll be fine. If people like you, you can play pretty much whatever. Raid content isn't all that hard, tbh, you don't need to min/max.

The thing about Rose Tinted Glasses is that they work. They're like the Placebo Effect. Their basis may be delusional, but their subjective effects are "real". You take a placebo pain killer and it does nothing chemically, but you feel better because you've taken something; that effect is the same as the effect that a real, functional painkiller has. You play a "bad" game, see it through Rosey Glasses and really enjoy it; that effect is the same as playing a genuinely "good" game and really enjoying it.
