You should react to Lament of the highborne, it is an iconic song in WoW. The original version was released during the Burning Crusade (2nd expansion) but Patty Mattson, the voice actress for Sylvanas did a version in 2019 so perhaps you could do both in the 1 video? Here is some background on the song, taken from the description of the original video: Even though the Banshee Queen's heart may no longer beat, it can still be stirred by memories of the past... During their adventures in the Ghostlands, members of the Horde may come across a small trinket known as "The Lady's Necklace" -- a gift bestowed on Lady Sylvanas Windrunner years ago by her beloved sister, Alleria. @@makaramuss The Helm was forged in the Shadowlands, for the original Lich King, Ner'zhul. Blizzard retconed the Helm's Creation to go with the new lore based through the Chronicles. Essentially now the Helm of Damnation was created in the Shadowlands for the Jailer of the Damned (The Lich King is the Jailer of the Damned (The Scourge, and technically the Forsaken, are the Damned)). Destroying the Helm of Damnation shattered the Veil between Life & Death, along with freeing the damned from Ice Crown. With no Lich King controlling them, the Scourge is now free to run rampant across Azeroth.

A few things: - Arthas was more powerful as the Lich King than Bolvar. Arthas also had the Frostmourne and a couple of strong beings as his lieutenants while Bolvar did not. - Sylvanas was created by Arthas BUT from that time until now she has gotten quite a significant increase in power from various sources. - The Helm of Domination, is supposed to be the key for the power of the Lich King. When someone wears it, that person becomes the Lich King and can tap into a certain power source. When Sylvanas broke it into two pieces she basically let the power loose by busting open the door. - Shadowlands, which is the name of the patch, is where Sylvanas is currently at and it is supposed to be the "afterlife" of WoW. Worth noticing is that there are other dimensions in WoW, like the dimension where the Legion(the demons with the green/fel magic) come from as well as the Emerald Dream(the place where dreams are made), just to name a couple.

actually Bolvar is pretty weak compared to Arthas , he denied the power of the Helmet and never actually use it to fight , only to keep The Scourge in check i dont think Arthas , who actually can use the Helmet of Domination to its full power will lose to Sylvanas , after all , Sylvanas were create by Arthas

I have a few things to mention. The first Lich King was Ner'zuhl of the Shadowmoon Orc clan. Arthas at first was a death knight in the LK's service when he killed Sylvanas and raised her as a banshee. Later when he went to Northrend did his hold over Sylvanas break and she could think for herself. At this time she is using the power of the Jailer (the chains) to augment her powers. The Shadowlands is where the dead go and their soul (anima) power is a source of energy. The Jailer has stopped all souls from going where they are supposed and is using it for himself.

Great reaction! You guys always hit on the games that I like. Shadowlands was one of the most visually appealing cinematics they've ever done. If you're interested, there is another Blizzard game called Diablo that also has some great cinematics. I would recommend either Diablo vs Imperius cinematic, or my personal favorite, the Diablo IV trailer, for their next game coming out in 2022. Probably the best Blizz cinematic that has ever been put out imo, though it is a bit horror-themed.

To Clarify what the Shadowlands are: The Shadowlands are the realm of death. It's the Afterlife. Every afterlife of all the different races and entities exist within the Shadowlands. And the barrier between our world and the Shadowlands has just been shattered.

Sylvanas made a deal with an entity called the Jailer, who resides within the Shadowlands in a place called the Maw, which is basically the Mos Eisley of the wow afterlife: "You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy". There are several covenants within the Shadowlands like the Bastion (basically for paladins and holy entities), or Ardenweald where mostly the druids go after they die etc. But now that Sylvanas destroyed the veil between life and death, every dead soul goes to the Maw. We don't really know mutch about it yet, but i think it will be our job to restore the balance or something.

Just to help you understand how the game divides up available player races between the factions: Horde players can be: Orcs, Trolls, Forsaken, Tauren, Blood Elves, Goblins, Pandaren, Highmountain Tauren, Nightborne Elves, Maghar Orcs, Zandalari Trolls, and Vulpera Alliance players can be: Humans, Dwarves, Gnomes, Night Elves, Draenei, Worgen, Pandaren, Light-forged Draenei, Void Elves, Dark-Iron Dwarves, Kul Tiran Humans, and Mechagnomes So among that list you will notice that Pandaren can join both factions; and that there are a total of 4 different Elf races...two on each faction.

Bolvar was much weaker as a lich king than arthas, and he also didn't have frostmourne and the powerful undead lieutenants (who were bosses in the game that you kill before arthas). Also sylvanas herself is much stronger here then before, because I think she made a contract with a powerful being in the shadowlands which is stronger than the lich king.

Someones probably already mentioned it, but the Shadowlands isn't a mirror dimension so much as it is the Afterlife Realm. Where the dead pass over to from Azeroth and other places.

There was a quest where Garrosh was upset with how she was doing things and said " What difference is there between you and the Lich King now? " and Slyvanas replied, "Isn't it obvious, Warchief? I serve the Horde." Meaning she and the Lich King were of equal power. Since then, she has gotten more powerful

There is an unknown component. Current speculation is that the Jailer imbued Sylvanas with some sort of death power making her as strong as she is. The Jailer is some head guy in the Shadowlands which is where people go when they die. If I remember correctly, the Jailer is the head honcho of the zone in Shadowlands known as the Maw, where the most evil souls go.

Right now,Sylvanas is the most OP character in Warcraft. She been working with the Jailor in the shadowlands and has been given the power of death. So if she was to adorn the helm of domination,its safe to say she would be unstoppable.

Shadowlands is just the place where souls go to after people die. So you can expect characters from the past to show up there again (ie Arthas and Varian)

The Shadowlands is like Purgatory, all fallen souls goes thru it before being judged by the Arbiter to go the different factions or covenants, and those deemed unworthy/Evil are sent directly to the Maw and are locked away by the Jailer.

Short story for Slyvanas "edge of night" by Dave Kodak basically shows her motivations after arthas is defeated. Basically everything she can do to stave off the death she forsees she will do. Even make a deal with a death God and open doorway to the afterlife.

When Arthas became the LK, he was at the absolute peak of his power. When Bolvar became the LK, he was on the brink of death. The helm is what saved him from dying. It's only reasonable to assume that the power granted by the crown doesn't raise you to the same level of power regardless of your previous level of power, but in a way amplifies what is already there. So yes, Bolvar LK possesses but a fragment of the power that Arthas LK did.

Sylvannes has had a power "upgrade" from her new master/ally who is in the Shadowlands . Normally she would not be able to beat an army and defeat the Lich King . At the moment the writers have turned her into a bit of a Mary Sue, however they might explain the new powers in the expansion. I'm giving them a chance, not sure why after BFA , but I will. Back to Lore, basicly Icecrown and the Crown are linked to the Shadowlands, a dimension where the spirits/souls of the dead go.The souls are then judged and sent to an afterlife of sorts that would fit them, with some souls being "recycled" to "power" these afterlifes (little shaky on this part) and others to a Limbo. However the entity known as the warden as been for a while messing with the norm and souls have not been going to where they should, but to the prison like "Limbo" that he controls. It's hinted , if not said out right by the writers ,that this Warden is Sylvannes's new partner/master who has given her all this new power. We have been told some dead lore characters will return as ghosts, so hoping for some really big returns, like Arthus .

Not sure if anyone has recommended it yet, but you might enjoy the cutscene where Sylvanas tries to enslave the Eyir Queen of the Val'kyr (Blizzard's version of the Valkyrie.) King Genn Greymane, a worgen (werewolf,) goes against her.

That is one thing I suspected, but did not talk about... Sylvanas is undead - maybe she connected, somehow, with her "Shadow" in the Afterlife (Shadowland), and that is why she could turn all the deaths surrounding her into this KIND of power... no idea. But fascinating on many levels.

The Lich King is the leader of the Scourge, he's keeping a leash on them. That's why there must always be a Lich King. With the helm broken and no Lich King to control the Scourge, it'll start wreaking havoc again uncontrolled so that's bad news for people on Azeroth. Also when it comes to music, there's a channel called Wowmusicable Warcraft Music. It has all the soundtracks for the expansions in playlists. Personally, my fave is the Mists of Pandaria soundtrack.

Sylvanus rolled Need on the most powerful helm on Azeroth, only to Disenchant it. Shattering the sky, opening a portal to the Afterlife including Heaven, Limbo, and Purgatory.

So the door to the Shadowlands opened because Sylvanus broke the Lich King's crown. "There must always be a Lich King" because he is the "jailer of the damned", he kept the door to the Shadowlands closed. There is a really good theory out there that Sylvanus serves Death itself. Her master is definitely in the Shadowlands and there is a trailer showing this. I can't find a link though :(

The Lich King "Bolvar Fordragon" was the third lich king and did not posses Arthas power however he was kept alive by dragonfire thats why he is all red and burnt. Bolvar was just being a jailer of the damned but Arthas was using that power for more than just being a jailer. The helm of domination was actually created by a legendary blacksmith in the shadowlands (the world that just opened) and was stolen by the burning legion and given to nerzul the original lich king before arthas became the lich king. Breaking it shattered the boundary between azeroth and the shadowlands. Theres a bit more to it than that but thats the gist, also that upside down tower is called torgast tower of the damned, that mirrors ice crown and is located within the maw of souls, somewhere where all the worst souls on azeroth go after they die. Players will be encountering it when shadowlands comes available.

The closed Alpha testing for this expansion only began this week so we only know so much about what's going on here. One of the things we do know is the Shadowlands is where people in the Warcraft Universe go when they die. According to last year's BlizzCon the ripping apart of the helm caused the value between the world of the living and the dead/Shadowlands to be shattered as seen in the trailer. I know I recommended it before in your prior videos but if you'd like a more in depth talk about what much of this trailer depicts and may indicate I again recommend the KZbin channel Taliesin and Evitel and Tali's breakdown of the trailer from December 2019. Of people who break down the cinematics and trailers he always seems to pick up on the little things and explains why that likely is as well as will give at least brief history breakdowns of how these things came to be. Always a joy to see fresh eyes take in something WoW players love :)

The reason Sylvanas is so powerful is because she is being granted power by an even greater power inside the Shadowlands called the Jailer. The Lich King was created by the Legion, who stole the magical sword and armour the Lich King uses from the Shadowlands, and the original source of the Lich King's power is thought to be related to the Jailer. So basically the Lich King was always just stolen power from a much more powerful entity that Sylvanas has been granted power from. And you're right, there was always supposed to be a Lich King, otherwise the Scourge would run wild and out of control on Azeroth (which is exactly what is going to happen). I recommend watching the Shadowlands feature trailer next.

The Helm of Domination and the Frostmourne (The helm and weapon of the Lich King) are items forged in and stolen from the Maw (Hell) by the Burning Legion's Dreadlords to insite chaos and death on Azeroth. The theory is that by releasing the power of the Maw in the Mortal Realm you fracture the thin veil between life and death as depicted by the sky shattering into the mirrored fortress of the Jailer, ruler of the Maw.

The problem with Sylvanas tearing apart the crown of the Lich King is that now, ths Scourge, the army of undead is without control and will attack the living. On the other side, Shadowlands is another dimension, but is not a mirror one, is the realm where the souls of the dead ones go, afterlife. Arthas had Frostmourne, a powerful sword that captured souls from slain ememies. It doubled his powers as a Lich King. Frostmourne with the Helm of Domination made Arthas almost unstoppable. Bolvar has a kickass war hammer, but nowhere near the power of Frostmourne. Also Sylvanas made a deal with the Jailer of Toghast in Shawdowlands (hidden lore), whom gave her some of the powers you see demonstrated in this video. Notice the chains that come out from her enchanted arrows (those are from the Jailer).

No she made a deal after she jumped of icecrown to kill herself after Arthas fall, but there she entered the maw basically hell in the shadowlands(shadowlands is where people go after they die)She made a deal with the boss of the maw, the Jailer to bring him as many souls as possible in exchange for power and returning from the dead. That is why she has become stronger then the Lich king since after having killed so many burning down the night elf tree and starting the war between the horde and the alliance. She has more and more power of the Jailer the more souls she brings him to expand his power in the shadowlands.

Yes, Bolvar is a weaker lich King. The biggest part of Arthas's power came from his sword Frostmourn and the sword was shattered. The shadowlands are the lands of the dead in WoW so it's not a mirror realm. And yes, without the helmet of domination the scourge is free and when they start attacking Azeroth again that's what alerts us heroes to something going down in Northrend. We go to investigate and Bolvar fills us in.

ive been playin for 14 years on a break at the moment, playing swtor lol, but id recommend if you do pick it up, play both factions. Quest through all zones, dont use the level boost until after first playthrough. All the zones have great stories to them. There's a lot of content to cover but worth tasking time and seeing it all. My fave races are Orcs and dwarves. Fave class is Retribution Paladin and Warlock. It's a good game, very well written.

I really loved the visible shock and awe, another great reaction as always. I know most fans aren't super happy with the direction the wow story is going, but Blizzard never fails to deliver with their cinematic. The twist of breaking the Helm of Domination alone makes this one insane. As for music Invincible, Wisdom of Yu'lon, Anduin's Theme, Jaina's Theme and Nightsong are all incredible.

I would actually put a different interpretation on Bolvar's power. There is one thing that is missing from the Lich King when Sylvanas arrives in this cinematic...and that is Frostmourne. Frostmourne was more than just a sword...it was an artifact of Nathrez'im construction that had consumed many thousands of souls and was using their anima power to give the previous Lich King his "oomph". When we players faced the previous Lich King, we shattered that sword...and as you notice, even that Lich King fell down on the floor and was bested. So I think it is a mistake for you to claim that this Bolvar Lich King was weaker because of any sort of personal "not really good in it" quality. We don't know what the skull mace was which Bolvar wielded in this cinematic....but I dare say it was nothing remarkable as Frostmourne was.

​ Laertes Indeed I just broke it down really simple there... The sword and the whole armor (That you basically saw in the WC3:TFT Cinematic) were forged by the Nathrezim. But Frostmourne is a thing of it's own and has little to do with the powers of the Lich King. Bolver saw himself never as the Lich King, but as the jailor of the damned. He never made use of the powers... Because he feared to get corrupted by them, maybe he feared that there was still some of Ner'zuhls presence lingering around. The redish flame you saw ... which returned after Sylvanas removed the helmet, are his powers which are kinda trapping him in undeath, because they were caused by the lifebinders flame (Alexstrasza).

The Lich King sent out the sword to be placed as a trap for Arthas; to curse and maintain control of him. It also absorbed souls to grow even further in power. The red eyes of Bolvar are not a "power" , that is just an effect of the dragon-fire. Unless Shadowlands invents something new....the only thing Bolvar has is the knowledge he remembered while in the helm plus his knowledge as a warrior for decades before the wrathgate incident. He could still be useful while questing in the expansion; but we don't know anything about any "powers" unless writers invent some.

I know it's easier said than done, but I would try not to allow those types to dissuade you. The lore is very fascinating and is what draws me to play the game. Though, while it may not be the best format for content, if you really want to know more about the lore genuinely, I highly recommend watching the videos from Nobbel87's KZbin channel. It has very deep explanations on pretty much everything WoW-related and he references far more than just the game. He includes information from the books and comic books as well.

Why must there alway be a Lich King? The reason given was that without a Lich King, there wouldn't be anybody to control the Scrouge (Undead), thus turning them mindless and randomly going on a rampage on the whole world. But what Sylvanas did is worse than her being the Lich Queen. By breaking the crown, not only are the Scrouge free to attack but also the breaking of the crown created a crack or if you want a gateway between the world of the living and the dead. Imagine how many enemies have been defeated in the time of World of Warcrafts run. Its a good chance enemies both familiar and even older will rise again to get their revenge, but nothing is confirmed about this. But with the living world and the world of the dead basically merged now, will killing these enemies be enough to stop them permanently or will they just keep rising back everytime the players cut them down in a endless battle.

With Arthas it was lust for power, with Bolvar it was a noble sacrifice, something that had to be done, also night elf is alliance, blood elf is horde, by destroying the helm, she opened the dimensional gate to shadowlands, as to the lich kings fate, who knows, I have not got this expansion yet so extremely worried as my death knights are my 2nd favorite class after the hunter.

A lot of Arthas's power came from Frostmourne. Note that the moment frostmourne was shattered arthas was easily defeated. So bolvar lacked that key object of power making him far less powerful

Bolvar was a weaker lich king because he no longer has the sword, frostmourne. When Arthas is defeated frostmourne has been shattered and that was a massive source of his power. I'd speculate that because Bolvar has been infused with the flames of life by the red dragons, he isnt able to use death magic to the extent Arthas lich king, or any other lich king, could. Also at this time Bolvar has just thawed from his block of ice and he hasn't fought in a while, may be quite unfamiliar with his power. Sylvanas had a big advantage. We found out that there is a mysterious, extremely powerful being in the shadowlands that is sharing powers with Sylvanas. As more people die, they both get stronger 😬

A Warcraft music to react to? With all the Sylvana's love going round there, this one is a must. Lament of the Highborne from World of Warcraft oficial channel. It's a song from The Burning Crusade expansion (the first one), and it's featured in game if we find a lost necklace in the Ghostlands, Sylvanas homeland, and we return it to her. She will sing this song with a choir of ghosts behind her, and in this video, Blizz made a little neat story to acompany the song. It's soooooo incredibly sad but at the same time haunting and beautiful!

In the Wrath of the Lich Cinematic, where Arthas rises from the Frozen Throne before raising the Frost Wyrm Sindragosa, he'd been there acclimating to the Helm of Command for quite some time. He became more powerful as he built up Icecrown Citadel, filling it with powerful abominations, scourge and Val'kyr. He also had Frostmourne, an artifact weapon that literally stole the souls of the beings Arthas killed. Bolvar himself had just come out of the ice, just as Sylvanas arrives. He had just acclimated to the helm, which is why his eyes went from fiery to icy. He was nowhere near as powerful as Arthas, though in time he MIGHT have been. Sylvanas herself has been gaining power since the fall of Arthas, first by gaining his Val'kyr to her service whom she gained through her interactions with a being called The Jailor in the Shadowlands. There's a short story called Edge of Night that explains what she experienced in the Shadowlands, which is the afterlife but I won't go into everything that happened to her there. She's been gaining power since that time, as she's been feeding souls into "the hungering void" as she calls it. I believe Sylvanas will actually turn out to be an anti-hero, similar to Illidan Stormrage. She's doing all these horrible things but she believes the ends justify the means. There is a serious imbalance in the afterlife that she intends to rectify. That's only my theory though, from all the lore I've read and experienced in game. And I really want to believe it's true because I think Sylvanas is an awesome character in the Warcraft mythos. Not my favorite, but in my top five for sure.

Bolvar wasnt really THE Lich King, The Lich King (Arthas) gained much of his power from Frostmourne the sword, which absorbed the souls of the fallen to increase its and The Lich Kings strength, the more he killed, the stronger he got. Frostmourne was destroyed when Arthas fell, releasing all those souls. So, while Bolvar wore the Helm of Domination and could control the undead Scourge... his power was no where near that of Arthas as The Lich King. and yes, there must always be a Lich King, so in the "pre patch" before Shadowlands, we will have to deal with rampaging uncontrolled Scourge undead!

Bolvar wasn't a weaker Lich King, really with the exception of Frostmourne he had every strength Arthas had; the reason he was beaten was because Sylvanas has the backing of a far greater power. The Shadowlands is the afterlife of the Warcraft universe, where the dead souls go; in this land is a being of extreme power known as the Jailer who is bolstering Sylvanas. To put into perspective, the Lich King for all his power is merely tapping into a fraction of the Shadowlands power and is a small potato before the Jailer who dwells there.

Nick, you're not wrong in your assessment of Bulvar (the Lich King) but there's a critical factor you overlooked. Bulvar didn't have the Runeblade frostmourne, when he fought Slyvanas. A lot of people have argued that if he had that sword he would've won...myself among them.

To answer your question about Bolvar and Arthas YES, Bolvar is significantly less powerful than Arthas as Lich King. Not only did Arthas want that power unlike Bolvar who basically took one for the team but he also had the legendary sword "Frostmourne" which was incredibly powerful compared to Bolvar's hammer which is just a regular weapon.

Few things: Bolvar was weaker than Arthas as you said in the video because arthas got most of his power from his sword frostmourne which increased his power with every soul he took. (And he took A LOT of souls with that sword) Sylvanas was powered up by the most ancient being known to us in the wow universe. The shadowlands is the afterlife of wow. If someone dies in the wow universe , their soul goes there. Even if they died on another world. It’s not just an Azeroth afterlife.

Arthas was more powerful as a paladin than Bolivar was, and had a good 15 years to use and practice the power and grow his strength by absorbing the souls of his victims, Bolivar had none of this, and refused to use the lich king powers except when actually necessary, as seen when the dragon flames coursing through him turned to ice, that was him activating the crown. Another thing to note, "The veil between life and death" was shattered, and she said "i will set us all free" When Arthas died, Sylvanas killed herself, threw herself off the citadel and was impaled by the saronite spires. (one of the only ways the old gods have managed to corrupt the undead who are otherwise immune is through saranite.) When she died there was nothing, just abyss. So when she was offered a second (or i suppose third) chance at life she took it. And was then terrified of death and what it means for her and her forsaken. It's not clear yet if the old god corruption is going to pan out, but it is a possibility. But we do know there is a being within the shadowlands that has granted her power in return for her feeding it souls of the dead, which is likely why she started all these wars. Each death at her behest feeds the being, the souls are basically power batteries, and as his power grows so does hers.

Even at this point though, she does not have the kill count required to be more powerful than Arthas was at the time of his fall. Obviously in game numbers she's significantly more deadly, but from a story standpoint Arthas would have her beat easy in terms of raw power.
