Thanks a lot for all the interesting comments! I apologize for not having mentioned stuff like the Palace of the Dead as a leveling alternative, but that's mainly because I haven't engaged with that myself really. I'm glad to see most comments and discussions are very civilized too, I'm pretty humbled this video has been performing so well too haha, thanks everyone :)

The problem with FFXIV's glamour system is that the inventory system is the last bastion of the 1.0 spaghetti code. It's unfortunately here to stay as fixing it would mean literally rewriting the code for every item in the game. But they are to be commended for what they've accomplished in spite of it.

If I missed you mentioning it, I'm sorry. Another reason that many players/groups don't mind new players-Sprouts in their duties is that you can many times get higher rewards for running content with someone who is doing it for the first time & there are bonus rewards for veteran players to run older content so that queue times are great for new players leveling Love the FFXIV system so much better. FYI I'm a 18+ year WoW veteran and just can't go back to WoWs community.

I need to say, WoW's lore is far better than FF14. Because lore and story telling are not the same thing. The story, and story telling in FF14 are lightyears ahead of WoW. Biggest reason is that it's self contained. Everything it needs to build a world and tell a story is in the game. That makes for a much more cohesive story experience than anything WoW can offer. WoW on the other hand, does world building lore second to none. And it does this *Because* it's fracutred. You have books, comics, lore compendiums, writers putting short stories on the lore blog. It's an awful way to convey a plot, but a great way to build a world. It's much more difficult for people who don't know all that to get into though. You can seriously go out of your way to explore the in game story and lore and *never* hit on the depths of the tauren lore. I totally get why people prefer the FF lore over WoW. It's less fractured and easier to digest. But Warcrafts lore is huge. You can deep dive into it for ages and never hit the bottom, with fantastic elements from top to bottom. It has far more to it than FF. That's neither good or bad. Just a different approach to the same kind of problem of MMO world building. The best way I can summarize it: FF14 is a self-contained game that builds its lore to tell a story. Warcraft is a universe spread across multiple mediums with many authors and minds expanding on it. Each has pros and cons. Many people don't think about all the extensive background lore WoW has, and I would say that's mainly blizzards fault. The writers have really shit the bed in actually *using* the expanse of lore at their fingertips. It's the biggest win of FF over WoW. FF actually uses its lore. WoW's lore is bigger, I find it more fun and engaging but at the same time it's frustrating that blizzard seems to be incapable of making good use of it.

@@tauriasstormshield499 For the most part, I completely agree. The actual 'World' of Warcraft has been meticulously crafted over like what, 30+ years at this point? I myself have the 3 WoW Chronicle books and they were a joy to go through, as well as some other WoW novels like Illidan or Wolfheart, and when I started getting into WoW, it was mainly through Nobbel lore videos as well. So I definitely see what you mean. But the one thing I find pretty shitty in the WoW lore is the retcons. Whether it's because they have written themselves into a corner (like pulling the entirety of Shadowlands and the First Ones out of their ass for the most part), or for other reasons, it just sucks being slapped with a 'yeah but actually all the lore is biased Titan propaganda lol', with the actual in-game storytelling not being very good at exploring the lore in general it kinda mars the experience as a whole as a result. Legion, for example, had some very cool moments, like all the background lore on the different artifact weapons, and the Incursion Portals on Argus where you go to other planets to battle the Legion there, so the general worldbuilding in WoW is for sure a lot more dense than FFXIV. So yeah I totally agree, and I do hope that when the WoW story loops back into the more cosmic threats (like the inevitable Void Lords) that they do it in a good way, same for FFXIV of course, since they need to set up a whole new arc after Endwalker, depending on how they're gonna end the patch story that's going on rn

@@Talzion42 I agree retcons can be annoying, but the titan propaganda stuff wasn't a blindside. At least not to me... They had been hinting for a long time that the titans might not be the good guys, with a bunch of big hints dropping in legion by them showing the light being kinda evil and the warrior class hall showing how odyn was a total dickhead. I think there are also revalations to come. The stuff with Tyr so far in DF has been interesting, seems to be leading to some cosmic related end.

There is a difference between having anthropomorphism in a game, and furries. FFXIV leans towards the furries with the amount of ERP that happens in game. I would agree with most things in this video, FFXIV is going to be a better game for casual players and even better if you are joining in the game late. How ever FFXIV does get stale quick once you are caught up with most of the content. WoW is not much better at this, how ever the content that WoW does release tends to have better longevity than FFXIV's content which I think is one of FFXIV's largest flaws. He is correct in FFXIV's class design, since Shadowbringers the jobs are very basic, easy to play, and get boring quickly. It causes problems with its raid scene which relies heavily in its earlier weeks for having players meet 95%+ uptime during boss fights or you will fail, which is not very casual friendly.

@@ZodaSoda Do you not think FF has a gear treadmill as well? The difference between the treadmills is how long you have to run on them. In FFs case the treadmill is, craft or buy crafted raid gear, go do roulettes for tomestones, do savage for your other BIS slots, repeat every 4 to 8 months with a sprinkle of catch up with the 24 man. As for the gear, WoW has a treadmill since there is almost always something better to look for, higher ilevel or better stat dispersion, FF has a race, there is one BIS for every class with clear way to get it and no rng in it. I feel like XIV showing its chops is one of the things that pushed Blizzard to start taking things more seriously in the most recent expansion. Before that, there wasn't really any danger to it, they could get away with 'What are you gonna do? Go play something else?' because while there were other options, none of them were really all that competitive with what WoW had to offer. Then along comes Yoshi-P and FFXIV and it really lit a fire under them. It's really amazing to realize that older WoW is what influenced Yoshi-P and FFXIV's development after the massive failure of 1.0. He and his team would play WoW for inspiration in what made it fun, so hopefully Blizzard will remember that going forward. FFXIV will always be home for me, but man do I wish the best for people who play WoW. I hope it really does keep up the good updates going forward, and that Activision-Blizzard stops being shitheads to their fans and employees.

I used to be a longtime WoW player but switched to FF14 in the last year or so. I think the biggest reason for me is that it was so much easier to convince my IRL friends who ordinarily don't play MMO's to try FF14. Between WoW's more hardcore endgame, limited free trial, and even the general cultural reputation it has, it's always been a hard sell to get my friends to try or commit to it. Not to mention that FF14 just feels a bit nicer to just "exist" in. I can stand in a city and emote with my best friend who lives on the other side of the country now while we just chat for hours over discord and not feel like I'm wasting a single minute of my time in FF. We might even chance upon some interesting encounters with other players in that time. The willingness of FF players to just hang out and interact with ppl they don't know is something I rarely found in WoW (especially Retail). The only thing I really miss at this point is WoW's PvP and the overall feel of combat in that game vs FF. The rush I'd get from really feeling like I outplayed an enemy team in Arenas or just dueling outside SW or Org are things that don't really have an equivalent in FF. But at least now I have IRL friends who can join me in Frontlines or hang out at the Wolves Den and duel each other, that really makes the switch worthwhile for me.

4:20 --- Thats some badass artwork. If female hrothgar look anything like that... sign me up :D 4:42 --- Nophica. I saw what you did there XD 11:38 --- According to what I heard, thats because it became tedious to keep track of all those story lines and how fit them in the big story overall - and vice versa. I guess, I understand where they're coming from... still sad, though :( 18:00 --- Self-monitoring fits quite well. But even without that... When I played WoW and got into a dungeon group via the matching system, I would always write "hi" or somesuch in chat. In 99% I wouldnt get a repley - especially in current content - whereas in FF14, in 99% you get something back and more often than not, you keep chatting away during the entire 15-20 minutes of the dungeon. Wipes? No problem: "my bad" says the tank, "didnt use esuna fast enough", says the healer, and the dps get the classic "crap I greeded XD" . And in WoW, if its m+ , they leave - after the expected s**t-talk temper tantrum. Understandable if you know how the keys for m+ work, but still. And its not much better in non mythic content. People in WoW are more "isolated" when it comes to randomised content with strangers, though they probably get more interactive with their fellow guild members and friends... at least I hope they do... 22:25 --- I'm still mad, honestly... I raided with my guild back in BfA and instead of at least clearing Nyalotha at least once on normal, they immediately switched to heroic. And I couldnt be bothered already back then. I just wanted to finished that bloody quest - and LFR doesnt help either. It was an excercise in frustration and I dropped it. ... Yeah, still makes me mad -.- And yes, I could've picked a random group for normal, but guess what: I'm not good with random people which is why I like the matching systems in the first place! Plus, you cant queue up for the end boss if you run on normal... This is such an improvement in FF14, its not even funny: queuing for specific bosses. 26:45 --- I hated it when they scrapped First Aid XD 38:25 --- True there. WoW has some incredible banger soundtracks but you rarely hear them anywhere, or if you hear them its only a few seconds and then its gone :( Ambient music in the zones has its charm, yes, but when I fight an epic boss, I want some seasoning to go with it :D 43:51 --- Nope XD I'm a fan of the FF14 glam systen, and neither the WoW nor the GW2 system will ever convince me otherwise XD In WoW, you have to pay every time you want to switch your look, and you cant store it for future use (at least in BfA you couldnt). Yes, all pieces are at your disposal but its totally cluttered because more than half of it is recolors: you cant dye anything. In GW2 you can dye the rim of your armor a different color that the leather buckles, cloth and plating and whatnot, but you have to buy the tokens from the store - getting them as loot is very tedious (you get ONE for completing an entire map - and GW2 maps are big!) and making them yourself isnt possible. Glamour prisms in FF14 are pretty much for free, and once stored, you can use the item whenever you want - plus, if you dye it beforehand, it keeps that color and you dont have to spend more currency on that (especially if its an expansive dye like Jet Black or Pure White, or the metallic colors). Sure, its a bit annoying that you can only access the glam dresser in an inn room, but other than that... I dont want to miss it. Antiquated or not, its still superior to the other systems. Limited where slots are concerned, yes, which is annoying (I already maxed out my 800 slots several times...), but I'd still rather have a limited in storage than anything WoW has at the moment... And closing with a worthy banger XD I'm not saying WoW needs more metal guitars in their soundtracks but a little more of the Nightwarrior music direction would do them good :D

You realiize Yoshi P has even said he wants to copy WoWs transmog system, right? The biggest reason he hasn't already done so is engine problems. *Everyone* knows WoW''s system is better. You can save appearances to swap to later, but you do have to pay. This is a non issue for multiple reasons. First, gold is plentiful if you play the game at all. Run content, sell ore and herbs. You will have gold. The most Ive ever spent on a outfit change is like 600g. Second, you can change your outfit literally anywhere between the engineering item and transmog mount. Appearances in WoW are account wide too. Once learned, all current and future characters across all servers have that appearance. You also have left and right shoulder customization separately now. I donno what you see in the FF glam system. WoW has it beat in almost every way imaginable.

To be fair, the switch from job quest lines to role quest lines gave us less quantity but it greatly increased the quality. Some classes like Dark Knight, Alchemist, Rogue and Warrior have great story lines, while others like Monk and Paladin are really bad (the basic concept even then is solid, it's just badly implemented). Also grinding an alt job is a bit easier if you exploit that sweet sweet MSQ exp, much of it being rewarded for watching cutscenes and some not too hard combat. And then you use the roulette and House of the Dead to get your main job lvl up.

There are lots more ways to level alt jobs in FF than just the Daily Roulette system. I have a low tolerance for repetition and grinding, so I use all of the leveling options, even ones that are relatively low xp, just for the variation. That includes the daily tribe quests, hunting logs (for the earliest levels), fates, hunt trains, Deep Dungeons, Bozjan Front, challenge logs, and the weekly Wondrous Tales book. I also love using the new Duty Support system to run dungeons with a party of NPCs in order to learn a new job before taking it into dungeons with real people. This has been great for healing jobs in particular, since it lets you learn how to heal a group of people without fear of wasting everyone in your group's time.

If you ever want to REALLY understand how much the music in FF14 means to its community, I encourage people to go look up the details behind when Soken was writing the music for Seat of Sacrifice. While I cannot remember EVERYTHING off the top of my head, the long and short of it is that he was battling cancer while he wrote one of THE MOST iconic songs in the whole game, and its a song with so much emotion because of the story and you can FEEL Sokens emotions in it, and you can feel the communities emotions in it. IIRC Soken said that the communities love and support (when we did not even know he had cancer) for the song and the fight gave him more strength to keep fighting. So much of the music in FF14 is designed to heighten your emotional connection to the story it is part of. Another good example is the Solo instance Venat fight which lets be honest, I am pretty sure everyone cried during. The music made it so much more intense. "Well come and well met, my brave little spark." I am 100% certain that if anything ever happened to Soken (or YoshiP) the FF14 community would absolutely lose their composure. Which is another thing to mention...the FF community is actually connected to its developers and LIKES them. We may not agree with everything they do or say, but I would say as a nearly unanimous community we like them and enjoy how connected to them we get to feel. YoshiP has an NPC character in the game called The Minstrel that gives you the extreme trials and congratulates you for your deeds and exploits. They have given us special cutscenes where YoshiP thanks the community and it feels so good. We even get a cutscene after properly saving the world where credits play and at the end. And god this was so cool. At the end there is one final credit... to the Warrior of Light followed by YOUR CHARACTER NAME. God doesnt that feel good? We also get liveletters for every patch which tell us what is changing, the state of the game, what to expect going forward etc. It feels very communicative. I encourage WoW players who think they dont like story to give it a chance. A genuine chance. Skip past the ARR if you like, even though the lore and world building there is really nice. Get into the expansions and live the story that made us go through rollercoasters of emotions over and over and that we would die for.

The WoW talent system would be miles better if we weren't deep into the internet era and if the game was a single player. Systems like these were great when you could theorycraft by yourself and figure out some insane combo you could run to tell your friend about, and then he'd call you back screaming what a massive galactic brain you had and how much easier the game was thanks to you, but in this day and age there's entire optimization guides made *before* the release of games that already call you a massive idiot if you use a build path that does 0.3 less damage per second than the optimal build. Were the game to be offline, you'd have the choice to ignore all of that and experiment to your heart's content. But sadly, in an MMO people are free to "black list" you for using a suboptimal build path and so you would not be able to tackle content without friends if you so much as change a single talent for a suboptimal one. Which, you guessed it, boils down WoW's talent system to exactly the same gameplay system than XIV's preset job system. XIV just doesn't have that "illusion of choice" element to it.

Min maxing isn't some modern reality, this gameplay all stemmed from Everquest long before WoW, but the conveniences of test realms, addons, parse tracking and 24/7 communication tools like discord has made it infinitely more obsessive and mainstream. The irony of this is the modern game now has to be designed around these tools that players have made the game easier, so the game gets designed harder over time. Vanilla WoW was hard because we lacked most of these tools, the culture was still there but it was harder to collect data and share information.

I’d say the thing about leveling alts is that there’s a ton of things you can do. Beast tribes, deep dungeons, daily roulette’s, challenge log, the hunting book at the start, and if there’s two classes you love the most you can usually hop back and forth between them for msq just bc there’s so much exp there. Now I’ve not done savage raiding BUT when it comes to extremes I do recommend them! They’re just harder versions of the bosses we already beat but like the boss in the first place, there’s a dance to the mechanics that you follow and when everything’s on point it feels amazing. Obviously some extremes are easier than others and I can’t even talk about savage cuz I’ve not touched them ever, but in general I enjoy the challenge and encourage new players to give it a shot!

I don't get how wow's glam system is better, you can tie your glamour to your classes when switching and bind the glams to macros which you can then use to create transformations by mixing emotes... Since you didn't talk about it much, I do want to say some stuff about high-level content in both WoW and FFxiv. I've yet to start doing extreme trials or savage raids for FFxiv, but I have had the pleasure, I do mean pleasure, of running the Ulitma Weapon ultimate. As someone who did heroic raiding for the first to raids of shadowlands, let me just say that high-level content in WoW is not nearly as satisfying to beat or play, as FFxiv Ultimates Knowing in WoW that you still have ten bosses to go after spending nine hours progressing in the raid, really tore down on my willpower. Progress was slow, and as a group, we were lucky to clear 2 new bosses in a week. I remember when we were still going through normal raids in the second shadowlands raid, we got on one boss for two three weeks. Mind you, we were raiding 9 hours a week and being stuck on one boss for nearly 27 hours of prog stucked. On the other hand, ultimates in FFxiv have a much better feel about them. As of right now, I've proged about 12 hours in the ultimate, and I've seen all but the final phase of the fight and still want to do more. The reason I feel this way is because I know when I get to that 27-hour mark on the ultimate, I may not have beaten it, but at least I can see that the end is in sight and know that once I do beat, I've seen all this ultimate has to offer and conquered it. Instead of knowing I still have five more bosses to beat, and then I still have to do the heroic versions of those fights in a few weeks. WoW raiding doesn't give you enough satisfaction for the time spent doing it and the challenges that come with it. While in FFxiv, everyone knows that after we beat the ultimate, we all get a cool title and weapon without having to worry about having to fight over said weapon. All in all, I think FFXIV has a better raiding experience. At least when it comes to ultimates, I can't talk about anything else.

I came back to WoW in WoD. I played every expansion for at most 3 months. I simply like the leveling, maybe doing some professions, doing alts. I don't like M+, or Raids, or really anything that requires a set schedule and big time investment, meaning I didn't really do WoW's endgame. PvP is occasionally fun but sometimes the class/spec you want to play is just ass or a druid can one-shot you at the beginning of the arena. I leveled every class to 50 in the Shadowlands prepatch, with the expectation that it'll be alt-friendly. I never got any of my alts up because of the insane time investment required. I just quit after doing Normal CN a few times in 9.0. And I never bought DF or bothered with WoW since then really.

They are also locked out of Dungeons from other expansions and can only choose the BFA ones and they, not gonna lie, are unnecessary complicated and maze like built at times. I did this as a returning WoW player. It's OK for solo questing, but for the dungeons it's horrible. Most classes don't even have their basic tools unlocked at lower levels when these dungeons were designed for classes to have 90% of their unlocked skills (when they were current +10 levels levelling content). Even as an experience player I struggled. A new player wouldn't stand a chance and likely get bullied by veterens speedrunning through. Also I love the original classic Azeroth dungeons yet I couldn't queue for them, then when I reached cap it blocks dungeon finder and forces you to play the new expansion.

I agree and disagree with your glamour opinion, yes, the fact that we have a limited amount of slots on gear appearance saves sucks, I don't really mind glam prisms since it removes the need for a NPC to do it for you that WoW has, sure, if you have like 20k gold or something, you can get the mount for it, but if you are close to a aetheryte in 14, you can use a glam plate wherever and whenever. Which isn't too bad in my humble opinion. But where 14 just blasts WoW out of the water is the gear appearances, not only are they dope as fuck and focus less on recolors (yes there are a few recolors, but those are rare once you get to Heavensward and beyond), and also the fact that mixing and matching different sets is easier because you can actually dye your armor to match, whereas in WoW, where there are like 50 different shades of red, and you got a set and you think that hood looks particularly awesome with that red robe... but the hood is just off in color by a bit, that shit gets SOOOOO annoying.

A problem with entering dungeons in WoW is that it was either a drag to have to walk to the dungeon in the old days, or now with the Party Finder there is no immersion or sense of dungeons having a place in the world. So with FF14 I thought it was quite smart that you DO have to physically go to the dungeon once to unlock it, so you know where it is, what it looks like, what's its lore, and afterwards you can queue through FF14's equivalent of Party Finder.

Big part of modern WoW design is wasting your time and money to facilitate selling ingame gold for real life money. The WoW token exists to sell you the solution to many ingame problems intentionally designed this way, as well as the game economy still broken since flooding the game with countless millions of gold during WoD. So endemic that the community itself sells endgame content as a service to new/unguilded players. Some also see FF14 story as a block to content and reason to buy story skips with real money, which IMO is just insane, just skip cutscenes and dialog if that's so important. You never know, you might even like the story.

WoW is the type of game Zenos would play. FFXIV is the type of game the WoL would play. FFXIV starts right away teaching you about its world and its people, it literally doesn't let you go or do anything else until you understand its world and story matters, then it lets you make your own fun, it lets you dabble into a bit of everything, even things there's no reward for doing but the experience of having done them and the people you can share that with, it lets you find joy in the little things (which is fitting as that is the literal theme of the decade long story). WoW is about killing things to get loot to kill more things.

Personally, I started the game to be able to tease a friend about their NPC crush, and ended up being the clown as the story immediately snagged all of my attention and absorbed me. I was also absolutely and utterly TERRIFIED of people. Social anxiety and all that. I was bad to the point that I begged said friend to do the first required dungeon with me, which ended up with her plowing through with an overleveled character. When I got the courage to do dungeons standard with other people... FFXIV helped my social anxiety so much. I'm still far more of a solo player, but I'm also happy to interact with other players and help new players and just fuck around. It really is great.

Something getting boring is subjective. I have at least 14 characters in FF14 despite only needing 1. Some from an old server I left, some to play with friends or join FC's to help out, and some on the new server I moved to. At least 7 of those characters main a healer. My old main has all four healers at least into EW content with two being almost 90 and 1 being 90. New main is 90 Sage. I have a 90 Sage alt. A White Mage alt off plays Sage and is almost 80 on both, getting through SB currently. I'm leveling White Mage with my partner to teach him how to heal so we're duo white mages. It doesn't get boring, I enjoy the healer role so it's where I'm happy and comfortable. On my new main I started out Arcanist, and as soon as we got through level 20 MSQ (we were way overleveled at that point due to Exp boost on new server) I got SCH and played SCH until I could unlock Sage and I've played Sage on that character since, with a few sassy moments of having to be Summoner for raids with my alt's FC/community because most of us that community play healers, too. XD If you enjoy the visuals, and you enjoy the role, boredom takes longer to set in, for me and those around me at least. I could play nothing but Sage, 15 hours a day, 7 days a week, and not get bored or tired of it. I love the job, it's so much fun for me. Also, all of the thumbnails you showed of that person complaining, I watched one of his videos about Paladin and the new Alliance raid where he was complaining about gear and I didn't finish it because he's an idiot that doesn't know alliance raids are meant for catch up, not main gear, that's what 8 man content is for. 24 man content is for people that left and are getting back into the game to get caught up while they work on tome gear, and alt jobs. I shut the video off after a few minutes because he A) can't even figure out simple mechanics and blamed it on everyone/everything else like a freaking child, and B) is just an overall, uninformed, absolute idiot. I wouldn't take anything he says with any value.

The old ffxiv had a lot of customization. If you notice the old gear just says desciple of war instead of a specific job and there are even shields with int and mind on them to buff magic and are intended for casters. You could even cross class in the olf ffxiv and use skills from a completely different job as long as you leveled it up high enough to unlock the skill. There was even elemental affinities and your old patron diety actuallly contributed to this effect. But i think it was all to complicated for most people and so they scrubbed it all. And then there was a bunch of hidden effect based around item, equipment, and skills an example would be since we talked about shields earlier they were directional and if an enemy was behind you then you couldnt block the attack also since a shield is a physical attribute it couldn't block magic damage. Finally the world was once continuous without loading screens, there was even a spot with a mini dungeon (not instanced just an underground maze with a named monster in it) you had to travel through to get between Ulda and Grid but this was scrubbed so they could stick it on ps3 console when they did ARR launch. I bet theycould bring it back since the ps4 and 5 should be powerful enough to handle it but who knows.

This wasn't about ability bloat, and it really didn't add any customisation. It just added an extra layer to being "complete" in a particular role by adding core abilities to optimised cookie cutter builds that required levelling completely unrelated jobs to specific break points for abilities every job in a role really wants to be reliably optimal. No-one really misses this.

If you want to talk about World Content there's also hunt trains people do. Those who don't know are basically world bosses you can get some handy tomestone currency from. Regular hunts also have you go out in the world killing mobs which is fun. There's a couple mount rewards among other things. The ARR, HW, Stormblood ones also being in particular importance since you can trade in Allied seals (from ARR hunts) and Centurio Seals (Heavensward and Stormblood) for Atheryte tickets so you can teleport to places without spending the gil. OH and treasure hunts which are also fun and give lots of gil as well as resource rewards. So there is open world content.

Part of playing BLM is flexibility, so i never complain much about being synced down. I dont like being synced to level 70 because its weird place for BLM, but you simply adapt your rotation to whatever you currently have. At any level you know exactly whats your optimal rotation by simply looking at your ability list. BLM is probably easiest job to adapt, since there is no big gamechanger overal, besides above/below 60 difference. Imo.

i can only really comment on the FF side of things, as i have never touched WoW: the visual update in FF: they are actually rolling out updates on that over time and iirc the biggest part of it when the next expansion will come out CC: yeah the races in FF look a bit homogenous at times, which again is probably because SE is still a Japanese company. Imo the diversity of the races comes more from the cultures they all have... even if SE themselves should add more NPCs with other skintones. classes/jobs: i agree that FF is pretty streamlined... while its kinda nice to be able to pick up the basics about another class is fun, simplifying them all and in some classes even taking away some of the most fun things is... its a point of concern forr me n quite a few of my friends with FF the customisation iirc is mainly how yoou play your rotation, which in the case of Blackmage could mean you lean into the long cast times and try to be the tactical nuke... ... or you get more of one stat and try to make ur casts faster a job being boring pretty fast in FF... it can happen, but even if someone mainly plays Warrior in a raid they will probably play other classes in the daylies sometimes. on the Jobquests... yeah they kinda stopped because they are too many jobs to make 2 new storylines each expac lvling/new players: in FF anyone with a srput icon has a free pass to ask the annoying basic MMO questions about how things work that and if there is someone that never did that speecific instance before, people get a message on their screen... .. so we are inevitably prepared for potential f-ups and it might taking longer than we are used to. we also get more of a specific currency for a new player doing their dungeons and other things with us. leveling alt jobs usually doesnt take as long as your first one did, one thing is the hidden armory bonus (100% more xp from mobs and bosses) but also because you will have most likely explored some things and places, giving you things you can do apart from dungeons. Although i agree that some of those things arent obvious, if anyone doesnt know something they can always go to the players that have been around a while and ask them how. you also cannot undersestimate the xp buffs you can get from consumables, while food gives you 3% for punching somethings face in, that can be a pretty hefty number in later levels, in the same category are a buff you can get from your Free Company(FF equivalent of guilds) and the squadron manuals. (the squadron manuals are something you get from your squadron, they can give you quite a few nice buff-consumables...getting them to that point IS annoying tho) and i fully agree on the part where you say that some classes dont feel good without certain skills. crafting/gathering: its a rabbit hole that is what i can say about FF while i am having "quick synthesis" on (lets you masscraft something, iirc gear, housing items and collectables are exempt from it) writing: in FF there are quite a few inconsistencies too, but they arent obvious to everyone.. ok they are mostly about how the classes and magic work or where exactly something in the world is supposed to be ( that was the case with Bozja and flip flopping between 2 continents it would be on... its now on the border of both) i love how you showed one of the chain fates in the last Shadowbringers area, as some of those can give you a good idea what vertain people or tribes do and what happens in that area generally, some of the things explaining a certain areas or tribes lifestyle are just chainquests you randomly come across... cuz those are actually not marked by anything. iirc the boop physics also take in account what gear ur character is wearing.... so a dancer should be jigglier than a paladins plate armour lets them be. completion in FF is honestly something only madmen do.... simply just getting all the fish and all the triple triad cards makes people go nuts...

Wanna point out a few relevant things: 1. WoW has a new player identification system and new player chat, but only new players and people who opt in to being a new player guide can see it. 2. WoW's raid design has big pros and cons over FF14s. A big pro, is that setting wise, FF boss arenas are a joke. Virtually all of them are a flat, blank square or circle that they try to hide with visual spectacle. WoW has a wide range of boss arenas coming in all shapes and sizes. In fact, I think even vanilla wow had more sophisticated boss arenas than ff14 does today. A con in WoW you missed entirely is that the raid telegraph system in FF14 kicks the living shit out of WoWs. WoW's raid and dungeon telegraphs are so indistinct and poor. The game director even admitted this, saying they've been making fights under the assumption that people are using DBM. 3. Coming to FF from WoW had one major shock for classes in the form of FF class mobility being nearly nonexistent compared to WoW. My warrior in WoW can run speedy laps around my FF14 warrior, it's not even close. 4. Your points about the drakonids taking care of the city misses a point that the isles were sealed off from the rest of the world, nobody could get in or out until the titan keepers opened the way. See the opening cinematic to dragonflight. 5. Grey and white gear are not auto added to the transmog system. You have to equip the items. 6. An interview a while back actually asked about body sliders for WoW, and they said it really isn't possible for WoW at a technical level so it isn't going to happen.

Yes, as an FF14 player that second point never ceases to irk me. The worst offender for me, personally, is the level 89 trial, which takes place on this huge, snowflake-shaped platform. I thought to myself, "what a cool arena!" and when you actually get into the fight, they draw an arbitrary standard-issue square in the center of the arena and make you stand in that. I get it's to like... control how people have to dodge mechanics, but it starts making raid bosses feel like checklist ticks

You should try lvling alt jobs in the southern front. I haven't had much xp with it myself but from what I gather outside having its own story makes leveling said alts faster. This may be in tandem with the daily roulettes though but I assume you would be doing those either way.

When I left WoW in Legion, you could use the same gear for both DPS and Tanking. Didn't they had all stats but just didn't show on the specific build until you changed to it? Sure, for end game you need to have two sets, but in general not really. If they changed that it sucks.

Late to the video, but as someone who played WoW since the start of TBC and played and loves Warcraft, I can say that I have now completely given up WoW in favor of FFXIV. I love lore, but the lore in WoW has become so bad and doesn’t make sense, in FFXIV even glamour and the way it works is somewhat lore consistent and throughout the game you see it used in different ways. I also raided mythic (in a more casual way), and I always disliked the fact that I need to look at all the guides, have all the addons and WeakAura’s set up. FFXIV showed me that I can do difficult and amazing raids, without going through all the extra steps and having these extra things installed. It is just so much better in my opinion and makes it easier for those who want to give harder content a try to actually try it. Now, on the topic of addons, I do think UI addons are fun and I think addons in general should be optional and not required (I know they are not required, but they basically are for high end content in WoW).

31:35 Disagreed. That makes the place feel like an actual area and part of the world instead of an arena with no connection to the the game world whatsoever. If WoW could improve on something regarding the trash mobs it's not that there are trash mobs, it's that the trash mobs are not really integrated with the boss fights and don't give any particular relevant rewards of their own.

I'm glad that so many people enjoy ff14 story, for me it felt like watching a mashup of Cartoon Network and Disney Channel(that's how Dragonflight felt for me as well). The MSQ has too many cutscenes and when I see the pixelated hair of Zero, I lose the little immersion that was left. The only part I've truly enjoyed was Shadowbringers(vibe and story). Let's hope they come with some new features with Dawnbringer, and not the same old scenario refurbished. Very high quality video, grats!

I haven't tried FFXIV yet but I have played WoW. I played for 6 years. I quit at Shadowlands. The thing is, WoW is no longer geared for casual players anymore. Even making and gearing alts is a chore in itself. If you are on a main, you're FORCED to have a high item level for a raid or dungeon, or else you won't be able to do it. But then you have to get a new high item level in the next patch. In pvp, you have to be high item and have the best gear, etc or else you'll get squashed. And if you have a alt, you have to do the whole story and progression again And with all that grinding, it's clear that blizzard doesn't really care about the casual player. If you are a new and casual player in WoW expect to get no help as everyone is racing to get to endgame.

It was never really focused towards casual players. You could do casual play, but you'd never be geared. It always required a lot of hours to get anywhere and it's (sadly) not likely to change any time soon.

Definitely would agree about open world being the weakest part of XIV. Not just World of Warcraft, but pretty much any MMO in the AAA space will outdo final fantasy in this regard. ESO has phenomenal open world content, Guild Wars 2 is also very good. For me, final fantasy 14 excels in the story department, as well as music. Those are the two strongest aspects of XIV for sure.

I don’t know WoW really as I stopped back in Pandaria, but would the Criterion dungeons count as Mythic? The ones you need to make a party and has limitations on rez’s is pretty hard.

yes and no. Yes in terms that they are hard dungeons, no in terms of the incentive for doing that content. In XIV there is none apart from the Orchestrion and the Mount where in WoW it`s a way to gear up.

when you were talking about character customization you didn't mention how FF14 lets you choose way more hair colors, hair highlights, skin color, eye colors, makeup/tattoo's, tail length, and even allows you to have your eyes 2 different colors. When you talked about the grand companies you never mentioned how it does impact you in PVP as when you PVP its through your grandcompany and unless you change the queueing options it wont put you in another GC unless you unselect the box last i recall. in FF14 while there isn't much gear to get there is usually gear from the tokens you get through the duty roulette, and then the ones from the trials/raid/alliance raid...and unlike wow ff14 doesn't let people use damage meters so that people can't claim someone sucks ect, and they usually do crack down on toxic people way faster and better than wow. when you talk about jobs and playing 1 thing i can say is that healing in wow can be harder and more challenging than it is in ff14 mainly because in ff14 you don't really oom that easily as you usually have 1-2 abilities to regen mana faster, and then you also have potions, and the mechanics you need to dodge are easier to dodge due to the hit box it shows.....while in wow you dont always get a swirl or something to let you know to move, and you can oom if your reckless with your heals and besides a potion and a few select class stuff you kinda get screwed if you oom. While lvling in ff14 can feel slower at times, it can also feel faster especially if you read/watch the things to learn the store/lore as ff14 is more in depth.....while in wow well you covered it already lol As for the sprouts having the icon lets people know its a new player and ff14 gives extra rewards if a veteran player does stuff with a sprout their 1st time, and if they are a mentor they can get more rewards as well. Also if people are too toxic in ff14 and get reported enough it is possible to get banned as they do try to keep the game less toxic. You also have the flowers that look like sprouts but with a yellow flower on it too.....its for people who had at sometime hit max lvl and then stopped playing for 2ish months....so that people know that they are a returning playing and while they know stuff there might be things that are new or changed that they might not know and might need a bit of help. 100% love being able to do dg's and trials with the npc's as i can go at whatever pace i want and play the classes im not good at to learn it better, and the npc's move for the mechanics so you can learn or in my case get reminded of them when im trying to get used to classes im not familiar with.....and its great for the times when you just dont feel like interacting with people. I 1000% love the gathering/crafting in ff14 as it is way more interactive and when you hit max lvl there can be some stuff that can be challenging to craft and you can actually fail at doing stuff. Having their own stats, and abilities is awesome and i just love it......honestly when i heard wow was revamping their professions ect i was legit hoping they would do something similar to ff14 but they didn't so its a let down. legit i admit i do enjoy being able to rez people mid combat in ff14 lol both games have good things and bad.........but i feel like in ff14 they listen to the players more...........originally they weren't going to give a male viera or a female hrothgar but players kept asking for it so some of the developers worked on it and made it possible. sorry for the long message >_

Great video and mixing rhe music in from the games made for nice background listening while i work. I wanna add in my own thoughts to this. I played wow for a long time from wrath to shadowlands, roughly 10 years. And i joined ffxiv same time as you. During the big wow exodus and asmongold times. There are few things i miss from wow. One of the biggest is the transmog system. It is so incredibly janky in comparison in ffxiv. The auto cataloguing just blows out the glamour system. However the looks of ffxiv i enjoy much more. The race diversity of wow i miss as well. I wouldnt narrow it down as simple as human, short human, tall human like you and many others do. But i definitely miss the variety. And i miss the feel of the classes. They had a flow to their combat that felt more rewarding to me. Housing is a weird thing. I hate how wow handled it with garrisons, but at least everybody was able to get one. In ffxiv the options are so vast its great and people have made amazong homes. But it is so hard to get a house its ridiculous. Almost everything else i dont miss or like better in ffxiv. Obviously sinking 10 years in a game leaves me missing it so i never assume ill be gone for good. The community of both games ive come across toxic people. Biggest difference is in wow toxic negativity and ffxiv toxic positivity. Though negative encounters were much much more common in wow. I feel ffxiv is my main mmo now. Ill try wow again one day, i hear dragonflight is actually good so maybe at the end of its lifespan ill try it. But i dont feel any big pull to wow anymore, its a weird feeling.

For me, WoW just has nothing to do. Raid, Mythic+, PvP. That's it. There's nothing else. 14 has a plethora of interesting content. Exploration zones (Bozja and Eureka), Deep Dungeons, crafting, gathering, EX primals for people who don't wanna fully step into raiding. It's endless.

Dont do savage unless you find 8 7 friends or community members that you know and trust. Many Savage Raiders are a joke in FF14, arent on time, dont watch basic guides, dont communicate etc. I feel since the game is more casual friendly it's a bigger step from playing the game normally to raiding savage since for any content except Savage and higher you really dont have to know what you're doing. I speak from experience of 2 Savage Statics and 1 Ultimate static. Terrible game to find random people to do savage imo
