Anhalt is based on the Linienschiff L21a, one of the numerous designs of battleships on which German engineers started working after the battle of Jutland. Out of the various ideas that these designs were exploring was the possibility to fuse the concepts of battleship and battlecruiser into a new type of ship, the so-called fast battleship.

It's meant to shoot HE when uptiered and shoot AP when downtiered. The amount of guns means you farm higher tier ships with more total fire chance and oneshot lower tier ships with more reliability.

New player here, saw this ship and had to have it. Can say I’m a bit of a brawler play style myself and it really doesn’t perform that bad. Granted- new player (been playing for about 2-3 months) so I have no idea what a good brawler performs like lmao I just started watching videos on how other ships play

This ship is meant for HE, its ap is only really workable in close range, these are mackensen guns but more. The thing about Anhalt is its tanky and it has a small superstructure.

That dispersion reminds me of the Russian Imperator. Wide horizontal dispersion but vertical dispersion is pretty tight. That explains why cruisers are so vulnerable.

I find that an issue with most BBs. Its just a game mode made to yolo with DDs and fast Cruisers.

The biggest issue this ship has is absolutely atrocious AP - we are talking cruiser levels of penetration above 14km range. We are talking worse penetration than Kaiser's AP... This is bad - struggling to penetrate equal tier carriers levels of bad. So it can't effectively snipe with dubious accuracy and abysmal AP performance and low damage German HE and generally anaemic shell speed. BUT at range the armour is not holding up either - the Turtleback is 30mm thick... it is overmatchable turtleback, like on Yorck, like on a cruiser. It can't brawl very well either - horrible gun angles, massive target, pretty weak secondaries for German standard, very slow turrets, and it is too slow to dictate the pace of engagement or to even be at equal terms with most things. And it has no hydro and abysmal torp protection, so brawling against anything with torps is a death sentence. Basically the only thing this ship has going for it is tiny superstructure somewhat proceting it from HE.

I faced off with a French BB Flandre against this ship. Took a full volley of 15 shots, only 1 penetrated and 3 secondary shots making contact. Meanwhile I took half of its health with my 6 front guns and my secondaries peppered the BB to a flaming husk before it could reload

I feel like the worst part of the Anhalt, from what I've seen, is that it's a master at sucking and a jack of no trade. It has a lot of guns, but they're of an embarrassingly useless caliber. It's German, but it's been neutered of all of it's secondaries in favor for "better" AA (HA!!!!) It's slow, but it doesn't have proper armor to justify it and don't try to argue that the 4 over sized torpedoes that are clearly compensating for the 15 undersized guns are what's weighing it down. It actually doesn't even have a proper turtle-back like the other Tier VIII German BB counterparts of it. If you've seen Flamu's video on the Anhalt, just amuse yourself and check it out, he goes and shows that the guns lose so much penetration power over range that it has possibly the 3rd worst guns, if not the worst guns of any BB in the game. So there's an even stricter Goldilock range between the shells being too pitiful to the point where even DD's can bounce them and being too close to really do anything except die. Horrendous detection, small caliber guns, torpedoes that have the speed of a fart, itself has the speed of treacle flowing through pitch, the Tier III US Cruiser (The St. Louis) has better secondaries than it does, and a tissue paper wall has better armor than it does. There's so much more you can get for it's price than what it's actually worth, XP pinata for the enemy. The ONLY thing it has is a decent health pool, but even then it's a mediocre one (as in not the best and not the worse, just somewhere extremely in the middle of the road.)

I'm planning on saving Coal to get that really neat German commander Gunther. I love the idea of having a flare pop off when the ability procs. I primarily play Battleships. I enjoy them the most and the German seasoned commander seems the most... appropriate for BB. I originally was gonna get Gunter for my Bismarck but... I'm just not very good with Bismarck. I'm noticing I do quite well with Rio De Janeiro, though, so I think the gun count? Lots and LOTS of guns! So I'm attracted to Anhalt as a result. Do you think this is a bad idea?

It says 1944 design but that's horseshit. Just look at the hull design. That's a pre WW1 and post WW1 design with sponson secondary guns. They stopped that in 1930. So regardless of what it says that hull is 1910-20's design with 1930's and 40's improvements and lengthened hull. 13.8 inch? That kind of weird size is definitely a WW1 era thing. They had those types in the 1890's onwards. This seems to me like a wargamming frankenstein. I've never heard of it and it's all sorts of weird and out of place. If it was a blueprint design it is based on something quite a bit older then WW2 era. Those box turrets are also iffy. 110mm turret roofs? Definitely designed at a time plunging fire wasn't a major issue where direct fire from closer ranges was the norm. This to me without knowing anything about it looks like a post WW1 designed ship. 1944 my giddy aunt.

Except when I was playing it, I never had more then 1 shell hit any battleship that was broadside to me, it's accuracy at long range is horrible, really need to be mid range with it to hit. Those shells hovering in the air so long everyone who can move will move out of the way before they even come down. This ship honestly is crap

@@meyatetana2973 yep, it is definitely not a sniper. When something gets within about 10k or so you can hit reasonably with it. I took a tier 8 CV down from near full health at about 8k yesterday... couple citadels and a bunch of pens. But yeah... "sniping" from range isn't a thing in this ship.

The sniper thing on that ship is an misconception, try build it for brawling. it might surprise you, smallish superstructures and a lot of big-ish guns, can do a lot of nasty things at close range when they all connect, you have more penetration from those guns at close range and a higher chance to hit with all of them, and don't forget secondary spam.

I think this thing was prepped for the new ops design. Ops are mostly tier 8 now and BBs with even okay secondary's seem to do well. And I just wouldn't put it past WG to add a new mode or change an existing one for the purpose of selling ships for it. I picked it up because I thought it was unique yet still could do okay. So far random PvP has been meh, random ops it's been great. AP is more reliable then I thought it would be even in PvP. As an American BB player shooting this thing is familiar but it just seems so squishy to everything that shoots at it.

For ops since most ships you encounter are lower tier, having slower AP means less overpens. But I'll be honest against low tier cruisers SAP is king. No overpens and you can cit every cruiser below t6.

Too true. The thing that makes this ship a real lemon for me is that speed. It is quite tanky and could make a half decent brawler but that speed, no way. Which is a shame because that is what I like, and the guns would work when you are up close and personal. But sitting at the back and spanning HE, I think I would preferer a trip to the dentist. I have it but it won't come off the shelf all that often. If that is your style fair enough, otherwise keep your wallet closed. Only my opinion though.

I don't understand this ship. I don't get what it's role is or where it belongs in a fight. Yes, it's a long range leadslinger with lots of guns of somewhat smaller caliber, but I can't see that really competing with a lot of ships that already exist in-game. Lyon has slightly bigger guns, an extra turret, and is a tier lower than Anhalt and can do almost the same things the Anhalt can but better. There are tons of Japanese tier VII-VIII ships both in the techline and for real money that are better gun barges too. RN BBs still exist and those are tougher, faster, and more reliable firestarters. I read in one of the comments that this is basically another what-if design by WeeGee based on IRL design studies made after Jutland (thank you HAVOK 1128) so it's going to be a bit more outdated in terms of design philosophy and far more jank a ship than what we're used to. I feel like this ship would have been more suited to tier VII with a nerfed reload, 1 less heal, slightly thinner armor, and maybe worse dispersion. I'll grant you that ships like the Kansas were born to similar circumstances and are also very slow, but at least the dummy thicc USN BBs have a broadside that can delete a badman off the face of the earth in one salvo. Anhalt just _can't_ most of the time.

Lyon has slightly smaller guns (but better penetration) and substantially worse dispersion, sigma and range (but better ballistics). Also they have the usual hull/armour differences for tier 7 and 8 ships.

She has the most number of guns with OKish dispersion (1.7 sigma Amercian dispersion, all other ships with comparable number of guns have worse dispersion, except Mecklenburg), normal reload time and long range. The pen is bad but sufficient against same tier cruisers. She has German armor and torps in case of close range combat, so basically the only real thing working against her is speed. 25 knots hurt a lot at T8.

Not a good ship in Random. With a secondary build, it is a beast IMHO in operations where you encounter more cruisers and DDs. The slow speed is not as much an issue in Ops, but I farm most of my credits and XP with this ship.

I ended up in a brawling situation with one of these and my Odin. The Odin took it appart. this ship is just awful from what i could tell. I couldn't stop laughing at all the AP shells he was bouncing off the odin; and all the secondaries that shattered and did nothing was sort of mind blowing. meanwhile Odin was ripping it apart. finally, no sonar made that torp volly i launched at that metal tugboat just finish it off.

Due to her low health pool, she dies before she gets to pop off. It's why Massachussets is better: you have way more capacity to get in a favorable position due to the improved heal.

IIRC, they were supposed to be the typical 380mm twins, basically ripping up Bayern's turrets. Why they couldn't go with that (too many 380mm guns in the German fleet? this is a solid pass. I love me my german bbs but it's too bloody slow for my playstyle. that and the floaty ass shells. brandenburg is better at tier 8 than this. also, these refit world war one ships at high tiers is kind of silly. the french heavy cruisers look like they belong in 1920's - not 1940's.

Perfect ship for potatoes and whales. Problem is many are SO lacking in skill they will even struggle to farm fire dmg and properly play this ship within its capability. If you want to really giggle look at Flambasts game play of this ship and his analysis of the AP. Going by memory but I think he called it refund material.

The Anhalt is one of the worst ships I ever bought from WG. 15 Guns, but you hit nothing. You get 15 Marbles in the air and the dispersion looks great, when it hits it's like 0-3, that's it. I got the worst hitrate of all BBs with the Anhalt with only 22% (usually over 26-36% depending on ship (BBs)). That thing is so slow, do not even try to think about flanking the enemy. Better position yourself on a predicted game end position, otherwise you'll find yourself chasing the battle... DO NOT BUY IT!

Edit: Anyone else suspecting that WG has been increasing cash/doub premium ships by 1 tier higher than they're balanced for? This is the third cash ship or so that I thought, man if it was 1 tier lower it'd be a really good ship.

i bought her at -50% of the normal price as i collected a crap load of doubloons with the snowflake supercontainers :p since the servers are having issues, as far as i could test her, she is fun with a full secondary build and commander lutjes on her. people have no clue this ship has this big ass torpedo's :p

It is not about being balanced or not. NC is a balanced ship. Amagi too. She is just plain bad. She has nothing going for her. She has pretty awful gun performance, HE is lackluster and AP is straight up abysmal. Her mobility is really bad. The armor seems good on paper but if you have played the game for some time you know how bad it really is with the shallow and thin turtleback and the gigantic shell-catchers and nonexistent torp belt (and no hydro ofc). She has meme torpedoes, but they are too slow to catch anyone even slightly aware unless point blank. AA is a meme as always. You play like a really shitty Monarch (an already weak ship) with better armor and significantly worse mobility, firepower and heal. And looking at the videos, I would rather play the RN black sheep BB.

you know, i think im done with this game. all they do no is release premium after premium ships. theres probably more premium ships now then there are normal ships and every time they do it, the regular ships get power crept more and more. hell even the premium ones do.

She *doesn't* feature a turtleback. It's 30mm. It's virtually not there. It's overmatchable. Don't advertise it when half the people watching now think she has a turtleback and her citadel is as protected as GK's...

What? Which ship overmatches 30mm at tier 7? 30mm can only get overmatched at tier 9 and above with 430mm and above guns.

@@Posilepton you're right, I checked Collingwood 419mm. It's still a very poor turtleback, much like Hipper's it's just not going to save you from any shells that went through the belt anyway. At least thag was my experience testing it. If you're giving a small enough angle, to fire the rear turrets, you should expect anything firing back to hurt... 5 digits of it...
