World of Warships Blitz - German carrier "August von Parseval" review

If there was a carrier I was ever going to like, it probably had to be a German one. And will you believe it, this thing fits the bill - maybe not the best CV out there, but then I'm also not the best CV player out there.

@@enzoluisasuncion3621 I am grinding the American carrier line (currently on the Lexington) and I am on the Ryujo on the Japanese carrier line. Germany has the best close range ships. I enjoy playing German ships and these carriers look promising (even if they do not have the 150mm main guns or HE bombs).

I'm at Independence on the USN CVs, which is kinda ok for me to manage (not too many wings). I was thinking to try that line for higher tiers, since they seem easier, but I might just stick with German ones when they come out :)

​@@FunandGameswithTerry It has been long since I played Independence (I got my first ever Clear Sky medal in it). American carriers are convenient until you get to the Essex. I can manage Lexington since I only need to tend to the torpedo bombers (I have my fighters placed to protect a ship when I send out my torpedo bombers to not tend to them). Once I get the Essex, I am not sure if I can manage additional squadrons if I may say XD

Have you tried the UK CV line? They're very powerful, and it's relatively easy to get high damage games in them.

It's the range on the small calibre. 2.4 base is pretty good, and they pack a punch, with the def AA doubling both, and if you're not on your own, but giving AA cover to a teammate, plus fighters (if you have a bit more skill than me) can be a serious pain for an enemy CV. Plus, this thing can be played aggressively - to be fair, I could probably do that in a Lexi as well, but you get my point :)

The moment I saw the name BF-109 came out I knew that all the waiting is worth it! As a German-tech-enthusiast, I have collected all the German ships (except the Z-44) and I now I can’t wait until the German carriers to come out! I hope we could see Stuka in T9 and T10. (and maybe even the ME-262 sort of thing who knows 😂 ) By the way the torpedo speed is indeed the most important aspect of torpedo bombers, especially when you torp those maneuverable cruisers or destroyers. Thanks! What I really enjoyed about testing these carriers was that they stick with the German theme of aggressive playstyle. No idea if I could maintain that in T9 or 10 with my skills, but this is a line I'd actually enjoy.

I was actually wondering at some point if it's the same bug as on the DZP, that I get credited for all air kills, but it didn't look like in the footage. Now, this is an AA build, with the respective captain skills, and the small calibre AA has a very good range. Combine that with decent armour, and you can actually use the ship in an AA support cruiser role.

As a German Main I am Very Excited for these ships especially when I got Graf Zeppelin from the event and got a chance to experience a German carrier they are very different to other carriers and mainly what I do with Graf zeppelin is to wait for the enemies to get spotted so my planes don't go waste and control my fighters while waiting, I think they are good overall very balanced and really looking forward for it.

I like that they bring a new idea to the game - skills, auto-secondaries, AP bombs - and allow for an aggressive style, a mix of support CL and carrier

This might be the first time I will grind up a carrier line. I hope the tier 7 is just as hilarious as the tier 8. The auto secondary’s plus the fast torps makes these ships noob friendly. Which is fine by me since I suck at carriers.

Yeah, same. I don't know if we get the odd tiers, since they don't exist on PC, either, but this just works for me. The dive bombers aren't much good against DDs, but are pretty murderous against CVs or cruisers, and the auto-secondaries are actually not bad - low damage, but fast reload, and I think they can fire across the deck, so with a base reload of 4s, it just stacks up.

This is a Flugzeugträger C/D design (notice the lack of 150mm secondaries that was removed from the B design onwards once they realized its a bad idea to put cruiser guns on a CV) but somehow WG gave it a diesel powerplant hence the smaller funnel.

Ah, that makes sense. I haven't seen any blueprints or details on the C & D, but given that they were variations, and the ship looks pretty similar to the GZ, I think you're on target here. Thanks!

@@FunandGameswithTerry Technically C and D should share the same design as B using all the experience gained from "completing" GZ, hence why I said WG gave it a diesel power plant. Another reason why this isn't Europa's conversion is down to the size, GZ and AVP both have a length at around 261-262m, while I's length is documented at 290m.

That Enterprise was actually the same Shoukaku from the previous battle but honestly I don't what to think about this German carriers.....I would have actually prefer those guns to be manual or at least a bit more powerful like Odin or Siegfried auto.....But anyway I guess I will have to play them first.

Yeah, I noticed - these two battles were from the same recording session. I figured a win & a loss wouldn't make it too bad, and they certainly knew what they were doing. I was a bit sceptical about the auto-secondaries at first as well, especially since I had hoped for 150s. But they're not actually bad - low calibre, but good range and fast rate of fire. They can fire across the deck, I think, and being auto, they can engage multiple targets at once. Plus, you don't need to manage them, so you can concentrate on the air wings.

Schlachtträger is a good one, too. I have no idea about the XP progression, since I got them only for review, but I can't see the actual tree yet, either. We'll have to see.

Git gud using fighters, and shoot down 60 planes? ;) One thing that I didn't mention (intentionally) is how effective these are against enemy CVs. And I'm not just talking about the late-game brawl, but you don't really on damage-over-time against them. The dive bombers do citadel hits for 2.5k flat-out, the ship is fast to get into position, and you've got two fighter wings to distract the enemy CV. Usually, CV sniping isn't recommended, since you end up wasting a lot of time. But it might work in these.

Looking at the hull, she doesn't look like a converted liner - maybe there's a draft that I haven't come across that WG based her off of. I'm not usually a CV fan, but this is a ship I'd play. Also, the line might have fewer ships to grind - we'll see.

Hey Terry, great video as always, I have another question :D:D what's your actual opinion on the Friedrich der Große. Im Farming with the Bismarck right now, but while the difference between Bismarck and Freddy is not that huge it seems to be incredible huge between the Freddy and the großer kurfürst. And that's a little bit frustrating because I will play against Kurfürst then. Am I able to farm for kurfürst with the Bismarck, so just exploring the Freddy and playing with the Bismarck till I can get the Kurfürst?

I think the step from Bismarck to FdG is actually larger. You gain armour and gun calibre, but pay in manoeuvrability and T9 matchmaking, i.e. you have to contend with lots of 18" class guns, which even the Freddy doesn't always shrug off. The switch in playstyle is that you need to be more aware of the overall situation, and when to push. Now, XP doesn't carry over, once you're done grinding for FdG, it won't count towards GK when you play Bismarck. You can use gold to convert excess XP to free XP, but for a T9 skip, it'll get seriously expensive.

Goldener Mittelweg macht einen wiederum anfällig für Zerstörer und die finden einen mega als target. Man kommt in Tier zehn Battles und teils prallen selbst die AP Granaten einfach ab... So nen großer kurfürst, ne Montana, Vermont, republique... Die machen Hackfleisch aus dem Schiff. Gleichzeitig ist die Bismarck in Tier 8 lächerlich stark. Bismarck gegen Freddy, absolut kein Ding. Freddy gegen Kurfürst: RUN Ich Versuche meine Taktiken zu ändern, Mal dies Mal jenes, nix klappt, bin fast immer ne damagefarm für Zerstörer oder Schlachtschiffe. 🥲 Zum heulen, vor allem, weil ich weiß, ich brauche noch 400k um an den Kurfürsten zu kommen. 🥲 Wenn ich jetzt auch so drüber nachdenke, ich glaube ich sehe kaum Freddys, die MVP werden, sind fast immer andere Schiffe. Edit (leider auch auf Deutsch): und wenn ich das nicht falsch bewerte, ist der Sprung zwischen Kurfürst und Freddy doch größer. Also mehr Schutz, guns sind noch Mal mehr besser, vor allem die Autos🤔🤔 ich mein, kann mich irren, aber kommt mir so vor. Als wäre die Freddy ne leicht bessere Bismarck und der Kurfürst ein deutlich besserer freddy

Yeah, that's actually a funny story - my son played Blitz before me (he just saw the ads back in '18 or so, and clicked on them), and he was in his "USA is best in anything" phase, so he ardently insisted on playing on the US server, and I ended up joining there.

Personally, I prefer the German BBs. FdG can be tricky and requires overview to know where and when to push, Iowa has comparatively poor armour, and will have to play mostly at longer ranges, but can move. Given that the T9 grind can be a bit meh in most cases, the question would be, where do you want to go, GK or Monty?

Yes the bf109s and stukas were well known to be highly effective planes during WW2. Looks like WG didn't do their homework. They were certainly not garbage like these jokes you get on the AVP
