World of Warships Blitz - Japanese premium cruiser "Yoshino" review

I'm back from vacation, so I finally have time to review the Yoshino, the tier 10 premium super-cruiser. Did they finally make one of those things that I actually enjoy playing? Let's find out.

Even though not actually built. This design had a big impact in terms of Allied response. I just got this ship and so far I like it.

Thanks! Didn't quite get as much hiking done as I wanted to, but it was pretty good to just be out of the city for a while. I was planning to go camping next week, but it looks like we'll get rain straight, so that'll have to wait till November. I'm trying to go while it's still spring, since I'm going solo, and carrying tent, water and provisions when it's over 35c out isn't great :)

I actually have a lot of problems with Zao do to week hull. The worst thing about Zao is that to unmask the port or starboard torpedo batteries you have to turn a lot and expose your flank. They actually seem to work better when Zao is kiting away from pursuit. I have already had some good games in Yoshino. Great video! Think you need the fire protection mod though Brian

Yoshino is Azuma but with Shimakaze torps

What I can say about the azuma is about accuracy of main batteries, they are great... auto secondaries mheee lol... like an escort battlecruiser she work well..

Nice video! It got pretty intense there towards the end. When you were coming around that last island and about to re-emerge in front of that Yama i was telling the screen "fire off some torps! Are they reloaded?! Fire!" Hahaha. Hope your vacation was fun!!

Thanks, it was good to get away from the city a little. Yes, things got a bit close towards the end there, and if the Yamas had a bit better aim, I'd have been dead twice over. I honestly hadn't expected them to push around the island, given that I was clearly spotted and had torps ready.

I got the yoshino in the golden week event which was about a week before this comment. And it gets buff on the dispersion as well as the concealment in the upcoming update.

I haven't played Alaska since the concealment buff, but I found her very frustrating to play originally. Still have to have another go sometime.

Terry just picked this thing up on sale. They buffed the torp range to dangerous levels now can stealth torp for about 1km

I blapped one Yoshino’s broadside with my Iowa last time. I like sunk half its health with just two broadside salvos.

It's the same story with Alaska. The supercruisers are BB damage pinatas, you can almost expect a citadel with each salvo. Although from all that I've tried so far, this one is the first I actually liked playing. 12s base reload on mains, plus torps, plus RR means that you can put out a lot of burst damage in a pinch, and trade HP. Also torps make her much less rushable by DDs.

I dont see that much Alaskas now, and the last time I saw one, it’s not as easy to citadel them, but it’s still very easy, just not as.

But can you use it against Montanas, maybe not. Montana is this thing’s worst nightmare, aside from Yamato, because it has deadly high damage shells that plunge through the citadel.

You can burn Yama down with relative ease. Monty, not so much... I agree that I'd probably try to avoid Monty in this thing. If it's 1:1, I might go for the rush, but generally not a favourable matchup.

I just started playing this ship more or less like I do Zao. I have this ship at 9.19 detection and Zao at 7.17. Trying to hit with torpedo from out of the blue.

I've found that all IJN stuff burns like crazy, but at least she's got somewhat decent AA. I'd really like a Zao - 20 torps and a much better concealment. But from all the supercruisers, this is the first one I like, since the mains fire pretty quickly for the calibre, and she's got a fearsome burst damage with the RR / torp combo. For me to like a cruiser, it has to be multi-role.

That's the button to turn the target lock off/on. You have to have it activated in settings

The auto-lock can cause trouble when you're trying to lead a shot, but there's another ship where you're aiming, which captures the lock and throws off your range. I switch off the lock/auto-range in that situation, and range manually.

So basically they reinvented the battlecruiser? (I know that they weren't battlecruisers, but they were a similar principle) I wonder if these would have followed the great Battlecruiser tradition of violently exploding... Also, these super cruisers look really fun to play

The IJN torpedo / night attack training really showed early on, e.g. in Savo sound. Once the Americans had figured out how powerful radar could be, slightly different story. The whole initial concept was based on surface engagements by big ships, with the IJN having the edge in training and torps initially. Towards the end of it, it was mainly CVs. The IJN could have done with some proper AA guns, fire direction and things like Helena or Atlanta.

If only the tech tree would get some love its not really competitive anymore if it ever was.. but this ship gets rapid reload.. still not worth it imo.. very expensiv and t10 matches are something else.. Terry you have a video on hour glass map and its pretty bright.. mine is dark as night.. is that cause of settings or video editing?

I haven't done anything in post, this is literally how bright things are. I don't like the light in some of the newer maps, they're impossible for me to play outdoors, but indoors they work if I crank up my screen brightness.

Yes, most of the time. Point is, if I need to get close, she has the dpm to get the kill & get me out alive.
