World of Warships Blitz - Tech Tree Talk : Italian Battleships

Here we are with yet another new tech tree line - finally, the Regia Marina gets some proper representation. Let's take a tour of tiers 5 to 9, which is what I can see so far, and round it off with a game in the Conte de Cavour, the Giulio Cesare's sister ship.

For once I have to give props to WG for making a good event that the F2P could get 2 ships so that’s nice From my experience the SAP is really great for the random DD encounter especially against some rushing Ochotniks. The tier 6 also really packs a punch but also gets easily punished. The tier 5 can get farmed by a Kirov but can give a nasty punch to cruisers. The SAP is really useful against CL ngl I am hyped about the rest of the line even tho the tier 7 doesn’t seem that good

I haven't tried 6 & 7 yet, but 8 is going to be fun, I can say that much. Probably not a "beginner" line, but a uniquely positioned one. Large calibre SAP and good torpedo protection is going to be absolutely devastating against DDs, they nicely reflect the Italian focus of firepower and speed over range and armour, and definitely have weaknesses - vulnerable to air especially, which once again nicely matches their history.

@@pain_weaver theoretically but in practice no, the event doesn’t give enough tokens to buy the tier 7, again you could try to farm mvp to get 100 tokens but that would take to much time.

I’m excited!!!! When I first played the Conte de Cavour, I wasn’t impressed with it compared with the Guilio Cesare. But when I tried it different, it’s a huge and very powerful ship.

She's a bit slow, but given that she's in the WW1 configuration, that makes sense. She can Agincourt DDs, though, and that alone is probably worth it

My guido is absolutely atrocious. Far better at the Germanic languages, despite only being 2-3 generations removed from the “boat” and my great grand parents and grand father spoke it from fluently to limited conversational. My German ancestors are many, many generations removed from the boat. None spoke German, if any did that ended in WWI where we hide our German ancestry all the way to 1995. From 1915ish to 1995 we were 100% Irish, 1995 rolled around and we became 50/50 Irish and german ancestry lol. I’ll never forget that family conversation.

After watching a documentary of the attack on Taranto, I keep wondering wth is a Littorio battleship then I realized it's the same class as the Vittorio Vennito which at the time is the flag ship of the RM right?

Great video Terry can't wait for the full line to be released and most of all can't wait for cristoforo colombo with its 16 guns. But I have a question why does it say that Giulio Cesare is the same class as the Conte di Cavour, but should it be the same as the Andrea Doria

Giulio Cesare is Conte di Cavour's sister ship, but in the 30s refit, rather than the original WW1 configuration. Andrea Doria was the successor class.

@@FunandGameswithTerry I think the Giulio should be a T6 or T7. It outclasses every T5. When it is up tiered in T6 matches it out classes 80% of those as well.

Right now I'm watching all the old videos because you make them interesting, understandable and explain the ships, tactics and strategies to me. I really appreciate that you do mostly kinda long videos. You give detailed information about the ship, the history, the built and show not only one but two games so we get a better idea of its playstyle. That's awesome and it must be hard sometimes to get all these information and stuff you can tell us in the videos. Furthermore I'm really impressed by your understanding of the German language, your pronunciation is incredible good. Did you learn that language at school, university or visited the country? So all in all great stuff and I think I will check out your other content too, I like hoi4 and if you do the same quality content over there I think they will entertain and inform the same. If you're looking at some older videos, keep in mind that I'm also learning still every day, some might not be quite up to date anymore ;) I was born in Germany, and have been living there for 30 years before moving to Australia, so yeah, pronunciation should be ok 😁 I'm quite fond of military history, so that's a nice overlap with the games. I'm pretty new to hoi4, but as long as you don't expect pro level gameplay, and are happy with my more deliberate, micro-heavy style, that should work out as well.

Really haven't enjoyed the tier 5 BB. Only played 4 games but haven't won a single random battle. Slow as molasses and gets hammered by other battleships, seems pretty squishy. Thanks for the video Terry.

HP pool is on the low side, armour isn't great, but the gimmick here is the SAP against DDs. I'd say it's an ok mid-tier BB.

So far my experience on the cavour is rather decent. The horizontial disperison absolutely sucks, all the enemy ship needs to do is to bow tank, and you can't hit anything.| Also she doesn't have much HP for a tier 5 BB. But still, for whatever reason, her AP slaps like a semi-truck, in fact, I have CC(citadel crisis)-ed 3 ships in a cavour, first a Ishizuchi, then a Dallas , and then a New Mexico.

From what I've seen so far, the AP on the tech tree ships (I've tried T5 & 8) is pretty good, following the premiums. Cavour only has 305s, so she can struggle a bit against top tier BBs, but you always have the option of slamming SAP into weak spots. Dispersion is definitely WW1 :)

For me in Conte di Cavour, I can shoot from maximum range, and go silent using its concealment. When the enemy is almost within range of its secondaries, i brawls it. Succeeded on surprise attack on an almost full health Cesare and managed to sink it, although mine was sunk too.

FYI when comparing ship , using the built in comparison thing it shows you the upgraded versions of both ships. Which is useful when comparing ships you don’t have. I noticed u said something about one ship not being fully upgraded when trying to compare the old way. Is why I said anything at all and to let your listeners also know.

The fuel smoke & scout plane combo is going to be some very new BB tactics. 12% range bump is significant IF it's accurate...mask & snipe maybe?...

Veneto has good accuracy, Lepanto with the quad turrets might be questionable. We'll see. But Lepanto can one-shot DDs with SAP, that alone is probably worth it.

Sounds like a great line!! Ive found myself playing DD hunter/chaser in Cesare often, and as I get the new ships, that will probably continue with them, as long as their speed is decent. Now i wish I hadnt just recently burnt all my xp on Vermont!!!🤦 -USNvet, JRDJ, na server

Conte is pretty slow, but I think at T6 it gets better. Veneto is great, Lepanto may have dispersion issues with the quad-turrets, don't know yet.

@@FunandGameswithTerry Finally got Conte, and Im suprised. After having played Cesare so much, I expected a disappointment. But not at all... She works well, turns decent, doesn't 'feel' slow, and just love the BB-size SAP!!!

I am enjoying this line, I have been quite successful in the Conte di Cavour, and I just won the Andrea Doria, and in the first few battles have been nice as well

@@FunandGameswithTerry Yea the guns are definitely better. I am personally enjoying the Andrea Doria now that I have more practice in it. Its sad about the smaller HP pool, but these ships have great maneuverability to dodge enemy battleship shells and torpedoes. I have been meaning to ask, how does one send a guest video?

I'd say we'll be waiting a minimum of 2 weeks until the current Blitz Pass is complete for the new Italian BB line, but it's equally possible it may take another 6 weeks. From the time WG first started talking about the Russian BB line, it took 2-3 months for them to be released. It's been about a month since I first heard about the upcoming Italian BB line, so........

The SAP is weird at times. I have the Conte di Cavour. I blapped a broadside DD right out of the water with one salvo. Another destroyer I shot and got two hits. One full pen and one bounce. Wonky RNG on that one.

The SAP against DDs is the big gimmick here for me, given that the alpha damage pretty much the same as AP. I actually struggle at times with AP against extremely lightly armoured cruisers, like Phoenix - SAP may be a good alternative here.

AP can't set fires. I think an engine knock out just puffs flames out the stacks to signal the engine was hit and its dead in the water soon unless repaired.

The bad dispersion worries me, longish reload and no precise aim or rapid reload.. the spotter plane gives dispersion as well if i remember correctly but thats not same usefulness in this terms Also if you cant aim for weakspots on bb or whatever switching shelltypes with this long reload..

Now if Wargaming would just come out with the actual tech tree on the NA server, so we can grind the levels. Early release of ships is nice, but it seems to take nearly forever for the tree to appear. :-(

It seems that Wg is dealing with these ships on the Blitz version much better than the PC version.

You'll find this a fair bit here. Blitz doesn't have armour angling mechanics, so a lot of the "overmatch" considerations aren't applicable. We still have a decent set of things to consider, but ships don't overspecialise as much.

Personally with the conte di cavour i have been rather underwhelmed by her SAP Against destroyers and light cruises yes it can be strong but battleships are a different story, your SAP does not have enough pen to deal consistent damage against them You might think you can just aim bow and stern but remember that their dispersion is awful so cant really pinpoint weakspots just like heavy cruisers, you will only end up missing at longer ranges As of now for the ITA BBs its best you treat their SAP like regular BB HE, only fire it if you have to, its better to spam AP most of the time

Yes, absolutely. With the Veneto, you'll see me using AP most of the time - she's got a great punch. The SAP, if you look at the alpha damage numbers, is on an unprecedented level of pain for a DD. I've just tested Lepanto against bots, and she can one-shot them at close range. The British HE pales in comparison, then again, unlike the Brits, you need to actually plan when to use what. For me, they're a pretty balanced line, not powercreeping others, with their own uniqueness.

Hi Terry love ur vedios, but I m not very happy with Italian battleship or battlecruisers , yeah these things have very weak Armor . I have citadeled @adrea doria (380mm) tier6 ship two times with my #fuso(410mm) . Two salvos of fuso and #adreana doria is back in the port 😂😂😂😂.....

They're not tanks, but the fuel smokes compensate for that. I like that it's a balanced line that introduces new playstyles and tactics without powercreeping existing ones.

Mostly, yes😁 I keep confusing her with the Cesare's layout, who had the centre turret removed during her inter-war rebuild. Which was true for the Cavour as well, only that we get the pre-upgrade configuration here.
