Thank you for FINALLY posting a review of this ship!! I was waiting for you to post and I am thankful you did.

I usually get ships to review some days before they come out. Unfortunately, that's during the week, where I have to work, so I mostly don't get to actually test them till the following weekend (depending on how busy my day job gets). I normally try to get 5-10 games in a ship before I form my opinion on it - ideally more, but it's always a question of time. Once I have the setup I'm happy with, I try to record a battle that highlights the aspects I want to point out - this might take a couple of attempts. After that, I do some research on the ship's history, collect some public domain historical images, if I can find them, and record the review & voice over for the battle(s). Then it's just a matter of editing it all together, reviewing my commentary in edit to see if I made any factual errors / missed anything, come up with a thumbnail, and upload to YT. All in all, I'd say a ship review can take anywhere from 3h to 6h to produce :)

Thoroughly enjoyed the review of the Florida. I sought it out at the beginning of the year when i returned to the game after a hiatus and although I was initially unimpressed with the ship. I remember going on a 0 for 20+ streak with it and getting frustrated with it. Then I had a revelation and started spec'ing it differently. I built it around its two consumables. With it having AA and Precise Aim, I used that as the foundation. Since doing that, I have brought it up to a 55% WR, but more importantly I have a functional ship. It is a support AA BB and it works well in that role. For Elite Bonus, I buffed her Damage control over the gun. Slot 1 is Secondary and AA buff Slot 2 in AA Slot 3 is AA as well. I put Halsey on her, and spec'd her by adding an additional consumable each and then buffing each consumable. I can then use the precise aim as much as possible to improve her dispersion which does make more of a difference. With 2 full salvos per consumable, I have gotten her percentage of hits up to 75% per salvo. As a result, I have a great ship to bring behind a cruiser or DD. It will not survive frontline but it is designed to remove obstacles from the path of my teammates. I have taken down as many as 30 or 32 planes in a match and it is a premier CA/CL removal service. I never expect to get big numbers but using it this way, while it may seem single purposed as AA, works well. Just an idea of how to play it differently.

It's always interesting to learn the history of these ships. Tho even if some were not made.

Interesting that you compare her playstyle to the Lyon - I've found that her penetration at close range seems poorer than that of Lyon (or maybe it just feels that way bc she has fewer guns). Her plunging fire seems to be quite good though, and her accuracy at range is still far better than Lyon, so I actually find myself running away most of the time to stay at mid-long distance. On the comments about single-firing, I've found that the bowtanking shots are more accurate than full broadsides, for whatever reason. I can easily land 7 or 8 shots bowtanking but this number does not increase when I start broadsiding! Might just be coincidence though. Also - just a little note on her history (and I love your sections on history btw, of all the WoWs/B reviews I watch, I really do appreciate the historical background as that is a big reason I play this game); wargaming doesn't really have much of a choice in naming these unbuilt battleships as usually, the class that gets built afterwards just steals their names. An example would be the VIII Kansas from the slow US battleship line. She's a 1920s South Dakota - but they couldn't name her that for obvious reasons of confusement with the 1939 class! The 1920s SoDak class had names that were mostly eventually used by real ships (Indiana, North Carolina, Iowa, Massachusetts... and Montana, which had an unbuilt class named after her!)

The USN naming schemes are somewhat limited in that you'll have to pick a state for BBs, and there's only so many of them :) I actually quite like the way they're approaching this, since it gives the names some credibility. I'll be doing some research on the dispersion issue, it's really hard to tell from subjective impressions. I'll make a video with the results.

Thanks for the Review I was really disappointed when I found out there technical the same guns on New Mexico but have less damage. I think making it the same damage as the New Mexico would make it a good ship an not a mediocre ship. As I’ve said I’m a Mutsu fan an when I got the Florida I was hoping for a rival. But the HE sucks on the Florida and can’t do to DDs what the mutsu can. No deleting DDs. But what I see the Florida being is a carrier protector from carrier sniping .
@FunandGameswithTerry3 жыл бұрын
She feels a lot like the Lyon to me. Not a bad ship at all, but not overpowered for her tier. The damage numbers are totally weird, but it's not a huge difference. I have to play Mutsu as well :)

From what I can tell, the Florida is basically a French and American battleship combined

Yeah, 8 guns forward is pretty neat. Meh dispersion at range, though.

The barrel is the actual gun, not the turret. The turret is just the housing, at least on American ships. Not sure if other nations designate turret or barrel.

You should do a Aurora review, as it has a very interesting history.

I think I've done a looong time ago. She was a premium that was given to players who had signed up before the 1st anniversary, which is why I have her in port :) It's a museum ship today, if I'm not mistaken.

In Florida you can share the same captain with the Large Cruisers...Alaska and PuertoRico.

that's a good point, wasn't thinking of that.

@@FunandGameswithTerry yeap he is the famous "PaytoCaptain"...a maxed one can make the large cruisers work a bit, tho Florida also works with a less trained captain.

Very. Nice game. How did top tier games go?

She can be taken down quite quickly by T8 BBs if you're not careful (she's a baby NC in terms of armour), so when faced with things like Roma, you got to watch out a bit. She can still hit back though, especially if you can get close, the belt seems to be holding up better than the decks. I ended up playing her more like a Lyon. With the dispersion mod and precise aiming skill active, you can do some long-ranged gunnery while you're finding your position.

Yes, I will eventually review all ships :) it's been very BB heavy, I've actually got Gascogne coming up next, so I'll probably look at some DDs and cruisers first to balance the classes a bit more.

u should actually finish off a Low health ship whenever you see them instead of finding another target and not leave it to another player to deal with them. It is a bad habit. If that ship is able to get of one last salvo, may still cause severe damage and change the battle
@FunandGameswithTerry3 жыл бұрын
I agree in general - in this case, I felt it would have to be close to a kill steal, since these torps were going to connect. Also, the cruiser was more dangerous to our DD.
