@@CaspCic I like the flexibility of the Scharnhorst. When you're top tier, you can play more like a battleship. When you're bottom tier (which is often), you can play it like a cruiser and have a good game either way.

Extra funny thing about Scharnhorst '43 is that it was a very easy premium ship to obtain, you simply had to play a few days in a row during the Christmas event and you had it. I've had matches during that time where 5 out of 6 battleships (both sides) were Scharnhorst '43's (yes im also partially guilty for the large amount of them, it's a fun ship)

From what I can tell, the '43 actually does the same damage per shot from its secondaries, at least according to the wiki. So the secondaries are just flat-out better.

The 105mm and 150mm secondaries do 100 and 200 less per shot respectively. Scharnhorst '43 actually has very slightly lower theoretical DPM than the regular version, but is much better at setting fires. The accuracy and range are totally unchanged between the version though, which is slightly disappointing.

Having the 43 I will say it's frustratingly fun. Trying to get in range without getting focus fired is a bit hard but when you do it is quite fun.

FYI Jingles, Germany intended to build a pair of improved pocket battleships called Panzerkreuzer D, when the navy learned about the French Dunkirk class. Who were very obviously pocket BB killers. So no Ds but actual battleships to be able to take on the French. Hull was easy, a few modifications to a late WW1 battlecruiser. Guns were a problem. The next generation 15" guns were years away from being ready. The best that could be made right away were the improved 11" guns for the cancelled D class.

I never had the original Scharnhorst, so I don't miss the 20 second reload. The 23-second one on Scharn '43 is perfectly workable if you ripple fire. And the secondaries and speed boost are excellent.

The chunk damage close-in versus a typical cruiser is most of its HP as there are 9 guns that won't overpen. It is one of 2 or 3 "battleships" that have essentially super cruiser caliber guns. Similar to the Italian SAP - it just wrecks cruisers and destroyers. As intended. Just.. nope, like in real life, it doesn't do well versus actual battleships. You are the biggest, meanest XXL sized cruiser in the game. With none of that made of citadels nonsense. IME, the original is better as the main guns are much faster reload. Yes, the 43 has better secondaries, but you also sacrifice a lot to go full secondary build to take advantage of that.

I think the most underrated part about this is the fact he got almost every type of kill possible. Cruiser bitchslap, snipe, close range guns, secondary, torpedo driveby. All he was missing were long range torps and a fire.

From what I understand, and have read, the Scharnhorst was supposed to be fitted with 15 inch guns, like the Tripitzs. But it never happened. I have both, and they are both good ships. Nice to see a video with some one playing the Horst.

The 38cm SK/C 34 (Bismarck guns) was still years away from being ready for service by the time construction of the Scharnhorsts was about to begin so the 28cm SK/C 34 was selected as a stop-gap measure. They were more or less planned to be replaced from the beginning.

Actually Jingles, as @longrider42 mentioned, Scharnhorst was never designed as a commerce raider, nor were her guns supposed to deal only with convoy escorts. She was designed as a battleship, armed with 15" guns. As naval rearmament was a mess, and the 15" guns were late, the Kriegsmarine elected to go with 12" - a caliber it was well familiar with - with the option to refit later on.

The range on the guns always struck me as odd. In real life, it had the interesting distinction tying the Warspite in landing the longest hit on an enemy ship in WWII at 24Km. Yes, the guns in real life were stupidly accurate, if lower caliber. What did the ship in was interestingly enough, the fact that they didn't design the upper decks well enough and at full speed it would do significant damage to itself from water slamming into the front end. It was in the docks twice for major repairs due to excessive water damage. In the game, though, it occupies an odd space where it won't overpen most smaller ships but still does decent chunk damage versus most other things.

I accidentally killed 4 ships in a ranked battle the other night with this ship - including the classic "BB with torpedoes, one ship either side with torps" one, them having both already fired their guns, sent torps so I had nothing to lose - it is indeed a fun ship to play when your team permit you to get close (i.e. they don't all run away and fire ping pong balls over their shoulders from the next map!)

I've a game on the EU server with Scharnhorst '43 with a secondary score of 63,181 from 325 hits out of 1,077 shells fired....but you can still die really fast if you do it wrong :)

It's exactly what it was designed to be in real life. The world's first XXL sized cruiser. With none of that silly "made of citadels" idiocy, good armor, and versus anything other than real battleships, absolutely the meanest thug in the cruiser class. You do not want to take this on with a smaller ship. As it has speed, you can easily not be where enemy 15 inch guns can hit you if you play it with some brain cells active.

New Mexico might have been a bot - lots of them in the game since about november (and by that i mean, that there was yet another spike-botting was alrdy an issue before that). Seems like WG had to boost the "Player" numbers for the new year. Beside that and the comicly bad dispersion he got on the Königsber TWICE, this was a solid match, showcasing how map awareness can make all the difference. you know...instead of the "hurr hurr! Guns go BOOM BOOM!" approach a frustratingly big part of the wows playerbase seems to favour.

I have the B and ‘43 versions and I enjoy the ‘43 way better. They performed very similar and the secondaries are definitely better on the ‘43 than the B. Both are good but the ‘43 is more fun to play.

I love the Scharnhorst because it’s a true battlecruiser unlike some of the other ships WG has dropped into the game. I love having my cruiser with a bit more tankiness.

I can't believe how good this ship is compared to how easy it was to get. First game in it I got 6 kills and second game I got 4. I'm pretty sure it now has more krakens than any other ship I own and I'm not even playing it that much. The thing is a beast.

The other reason the the class was built with those 11” Guns was because they where the largest German Industry was capable of making at the time (German maritime industry was basically gutted as a result of the Treaties that ended World War One (something the British ensured was in there)j
