Actually Jingles, way back in Open Beta, the Minekaze was like a Kamikaze with TEN KM TORPS. It was flat-out OP at tier 5, so I understand that particular nerf.

Reminds me of the time my minikaze slipped around the map so I got behind the enemy and caught 3 BBs in a line of battle. Salvo 1 sank the lead BB, salvo 2 sank the second in line who only turned enough to avoid colliding with 1. Salvo 3 sank the 3rd. None of them left their main course crossing the map, which also gave their broadsides to any of my BBs that were in range.

To be entirely fair to the CV, CVs only start existing at about that tier, so it could well be his first game in that thing. And it's a VERY hectic and different gameplay. Just managing the aircraft can be very overwhelming, not leaving you much time to also look at your detection numbers, torpedoes, etc. If that guy is new at playing that CV, really, you can't call him an idiot.

I own a Kamikaze R (got it during a special event). I can confirm everything Jingles says is accurate. That ship in a tier V game is pure seal-clubbing, not even close to fair. However, I actually enjoy playing it most in tier VII games. Still no radar to worry about, but the higher tier BBs make you work a bit harder to harvest their tears. It's a very high risk high reward kind of playstyle, but highly satisfying when you manage to sneak behind enemy lines and kill an unsuspecting full heath Gneisnau or Colorado or Hood with a perfect torp salvo in the back.

I got the Kamikaze R by getting 260 pearls in that event and I was slightly annoyed when I saw that they were selling it a few months later (the R version and not the standard Kami). It kinda detracts from the specialness of the ship. I wouldn't have minded them selling the regular Kami but the R version was supposed to be special

I do not underestimate the kamikaze R, and in fact if I'm in a gunboat or cruiser, specifically try to kill any kamikazes on the enemy team because of that, much to the dismay of many a seal-clubbers... Not so enjoyable for them when a Gaede suddenly appears of their port side, guns blazing, speed boost up, charging into any smoke screen you set with hydro up.

Actually, there is a provision in the contract that allows not showing the Kraken if it is rewarded to a seal clubber. This is known as the dirty Kraken exception.

I played a game where some guy in a Friedrich der Grobe said he didnt take advice from people with a 51% WR after he spent the entire game sitting at the back of the map. In a top tier German battleship. I looked at his stat page. Out of over 5000 battles played.... this scumbag had 3500 battles at tier 1. He had a 75% WR, but 20k average damage per game and mediocre other stats which is why I looked. He had like a 38% WR and garbage stats past tier 5.

Kamikaze R - when a mission calls for a win in a tier V or higher and to be in the top 3 xp earners for your team - it's the go to ship. Also it's the only ship which I've gotten a Kraken in and still lost 5 kills to 11 - I usually apologize to the enemy team that there's not enough time/points left for me to sink the rest of them.

To be fair, hunting Kamikaze is a challenge even for another destroyer. That thing have a ridiculous spotting range. And with torps firing nearly as fast as BB guns, its a big waste of time and/or ship unless you have someone to assist you in spotting the guy. And not many people know about this overpowered nature, so blaming first timers on carriers on destroyers for not doing their job is not appropriate either. Kamikaze is one ship out of IJN DD line that actually needs nerf, but they don't nerf it.

when i face a kamikaze i usually dont have serious issues. most DD can just charge it or ambush it and win. only the best kamikaze players can survive this. in a BB i usually just run away so he cant easily torp me as charging a kamikaze wont work unless he is stupid.

You need to know where to charge to charge Kamikaze players effectively. And even then you need to play it carefully because torpedoes can appear out of nowhere. If you don't have a many point captain, its a trick. And guess what casual players don't have at tier 5 or lower?

If you bait him to torp you, you need to give up chasing directly after him. And that plays to his advantage. Anyway, I am not saying that there's no way to counter them. But you need a lot of things to go in your favor and a lot of things to not go in his favor.

A quick one-step guide to fixing Japanese destroyers. You want to know it? It's really easy. Make the turret rotations faster than continental drift. They don't need to be as good as American or have the range of Russian DDs, but they should be capable of defending themselves if push came to shove. Edit: And maybe buff the reload a bit. Again, doesn't need to be as good as American or Russian DDs, but at least capable of self-defense.

I'd knock 0.1-0.2 km of detection from their torpedoes as well. Quite unfair to have a torpedo detection range of 1.6 on the 10km and 1.7 on Shima 12km vs other nations that average around 1.4-1.2km or 0.8 in the case of Pan-Asia who generally do everything the IJN DDs do better

The Fujin is the EXACT replica of the Kami R, which I don’t believe was ever talked about, perhaps because it is never going to be sold again ( wows has stated that in writing ) I think you had a small chance of getting one of them in the recent Xmas containers, but that’s it.

I have a Fujin, essentially the same as the Kamikaze, last game I play I had a similar result with 5 kills. Cruisers and DDs need to screen battleships so they don't get torped so easy.

The real problem with IJN DD's is the same problem WoT arty had before the big rework with stun mechanics added. The alpha is so massive that it's completely unacceptable for them to be able to reliably score hits because if they could reliably score hits the y do far too much damage every game and be completely OP. IMO my perfect ideal T8 premium IN DD would be a Shima with 5 second TRB and the Umikaze Top torps with the flood chance set t -1000% so they can;t cause floods even with flags.Yeah you've only got 6800 alpha and no flooding, but you've also got 15 torpedoes on a 60 second reload with access to T9 modules and captain skills that could bring that down to 45.9 seconds, an 8km range and if you really need to flood the waters with torps a TRB on tap. That would IMO be vastly more fun to play with and against than any of the high tier tech tree IJN DD's.

Jingles that langley is more dumb than you thought, when he fired his first spread of torpedoes at the langley there was a squadron of aircraft that flew directly over the torpedoes meaning that he still took 2 torpedoes while sailing head on towards them while they were spotted
