Despite all the obvious flaws, Odin is still my favorite t8 BB right now and I've completely replaced my Tirpitz with her. Yes, the guns lack pen, but they're accurate and rapid firing enough that I don't feel like I'm losing out on DPM. Yes, the ship has a low HP pool, but it's so heavily armored that I have no difficulties pushing in, especially late game. Yes, the secondaries have bad firing arcs, but they have great fire rates and do not require IFHE to hit 32mm of pen. Add to that the excellent placement of torps that make them much less likely to break than a Tirptiz, the access to Hydro, and the ability to get your concealment down to just 400m more than your secondary range. Even if you don't commit to a secondary build, a standard concealment and Fire Prevention build makes Odin once of the stealthiest BB's at t8 and it's also one of the most agile. The top speed is pretty good, but the turning circle is incredibly small and that combines with Hydro to make Odin one of the hardest BB's to torp. I run a triple 4 point build, with Man Sec, AFT, and CE. I play Odin one of two ways, as an aggressive DD and CL hunter or as a BB duelist. If I'm pushing a DD or CL I use my low concealment to get up real close, keep hydro running to dodge torps, and shred them down with the rapid firing 305's and secondaries. If I'm dueling a BB I stay angled just enough to get my forward secondaries firing, keep at the edge of my secondary range, and spam HE shells just to burn their Damage Cons, before switching to AP once they can't repair the fires. I've yet to feel like there's any BB at t8 or even t9 where I absolutely can't win the duel. The biggest threat are HE spammers like RN BB's, but my secondaries shred through their 32mm plating like paper. Any AP slinging BB just can't do much to the Odin without me making an absolutely horrible mistake. Yes, Odin has some serious risks. You have low health and making a mistake early hurts so much, but you're also one of the absolute best BB's in a duel and you've got the concealment to decide when to start the fight. Play a little safe at the start, conserve your HP, and then push aggressively in the late game to bulldoze any ships with your oppressive close-range firepower.

From my personal experience, Odin is suprisingly good at pushing into a cap, especially when there's an enemy DD in smoke and your entire team stop dead in their tracks scared of getting torps, the Odin can take the inititive and charge in. With its combination of german hydro, decent secondaries and a fast reloading main battery you have a higher chance of killing the enemy dd and torpedo beat your way out alive (or die on your way out to a yammy salvo across the map). And with the dd dead hopefully it gives your team enough courage to poke out behind islands and start pushing lol.

The Odin reminds me of that Joey line from "Friends": "What's not to Like? Custard, good. Jam, good. Meat, good!" Great armor scheme (lots of 50 mm plating on the deck, and a 32 mm bow, i.e. a BB bow). Great secondaries, and the arcs aren't as bad as they say. Hydro+torps, combining Birmarck and Tirpitz strengths at close range. Decent AA. Decent concealment: potentially only slightly larger than your secondary range. I had over 400 games in T8 BBs before the Odin, and once I got it I smashed my record damage literally in the first game...

@landochabod74 жыл бұрын
@@wombat4191 There is disagree. The Odin has barely better maneuverability than the Bismarck. Assuming no rudder module on either: - rudder 14.1 on the Odin, 16 on the Bismarck - top speed 30 Odin, 31 Bismarck - turning radius 790 Odin, 850 Bismarck I mean, the Odin's better, but I wouldn't say it has "battlecruiser maneuverability" compared to "battleship maneuverability". @wombat41914 жыл бұрын
@@landochabod7 2 secs less rudder shift is substantially better. Smaller turning circle also adds to that, because it means that it will turn at the same rate than bismarck before the rudder is fully turned. Odin is not a bad BB by any means, I don't have it myself but I think it has proven to be a tough one to deal with in the ranked, at least when in good hands. The low health punishes for mistakes pretty heavily though. There's at least one thing it does better than any other BB, bully DD's. I've played mostly Lightning so far, and Odin has been by far the most troublesome BB for me. Great hydro and great maneuverability make her really hard to hit with torps on, and hell breaks loose if you get spotted. She can just rush smokes like nobody's business. That combined with great brawling ability and some of the best armor schemes makes it so that teams with Odin often have the advantage when pushing caps. This is my experience against her in ranked with 7 ship teams, her difficulty surely gets to another level in standard with 12 ships. She would probably be an absolute beast in 1v1 ranked.
@wombat41914 жыл бұрын
Actually, I had a little train of thought about this. People complaining about Odin being bad is a prime example of why powercreep happens in WOWS and in games in general. Community unkowingly pressures the devs to introduce ships that are always a slight bit better than the existing ones, because people don't like it when reality and balance ruins the experience of new and exciting. Sometimes the devs accidentally go a bit overboard with this "slight bit better", and ships like Smolensk happen. For example, the RN CA's are not especially powerful, and thus nobody has really gotten excited over them. But they are not really underpowered either, not just very impressive. And now this Odin. Undoubtedly very fun ship to play, but WG probably realized how hard she was to sink with a normal T8 health pool, and balanced her. Then people like Flamu tell everybody that it's bad because it got nerfed "like german ships always do", and say that if this was Russian it would have gotten buffed. I also think the current talk about the Russian bias is mostly about powercreep and confirmation bias. If we think about all the ships that are blamed for Russian bias, it is easy to notice that most of them are only about a year or less old. Stalingrad might be the only one significantly older, and even it is just 2 years old. The fact that so many Soviet ships (not Russian, Soviet. It should be called Soviet bias) have been introduced lately is ridiculous, but that is another subject entirely. And the newest culprit might not even be as great as some people make it out to be. Petropavlovsk surely has some ridiculous qualities, but it is really mostly about minmaxing. Ridiculous pen with her rail guns? Sure, but low DPM to compensate. Tanky as hell, but in turn almost BB-like handling. Stealth radar, but it's a really short duration. For comparison, Minotaur has been able to stealth radar with way bigger 1 km buffer and 40 sec radar for years, but no one has complained about that. Now think about most of the non-Soviet newish ships. French high tier DD's are probably the most powerful DD's right now, even after getting nerfed. Italian cruisers are really good despite at least Venezia getting constantly nerfed because of the CB meta. Georgia is one of the best, if not the best T9 BB. Heck, there are enough strong American ships to call for an American bias, none of them are tech tree ships just because the American tech trees are so old. Wooster may be the closest one to being part of the American bias, and it so happens to be the newest of the bunch.

Your role in the Odin is to sail with the bulk of your Battleships and provide support against other Cruisers and push with them in caps with Hydro. Oh and never speck for secondaries, go for lankiness and an RPF may be very useful for your escorting role when you are relied for Hydro defense. Again, it's a very, very good t8 Heavy/Battle Cruiser. With this ship you will very often do x2-x3 citadel salvos on likes like Hindenburg or delete a Moskva. Not to mention the low armor (overpen saving) citadels like Smolensk and the poor Bayards and Colbers :) Zao, HIV and Stalingrad are trolling armor ships to face and should be treated with respect when approaching for a fight as always.

Always the same shit with those games. The "old" factions, the factions that came first in the game get left in the dust by new, more obscure factions power creeping past them. Swedes, Italians and others get nifty tricks to set them apart from the old stuff and for some reasons the Germans always end up being hit the hardest by power creep, because Americans, Russians, Japanese and British get some weird tanks/ships with gimmicky but powerful tricks, while the Germans basically always get "more of the same" somehow. The Russians get a few silly, OP Premiums and then, to "compensate" that and to show that Premiums are not all OP, the Germans get shitty ones and that somehow makes everything well in the world of Russian military MMOs.

@@Tsnelo I tried to point out common trends in the big 3 such games and since in WoT the Japanese are one of the younger, more gimmicky factions themselves and in War Thunder they have pretty good planes and tanks, I didn't single them out the same way as the Germans, because the Germans get shafted like that and are victims of the "old faction curse" in all 3 games. Take War Thunder for example. The Japanese thing was "slow but maneuverable" and the German thing was "fast but unmaneuverable". The Japanese have gotten a bunch of very fast planes since then, which are as good as the Germans at Booming and Zooming, while the Germans never got a maneuverable plane, unless you count one low tier event reward Premium. The point is, WoWS is the only out of the 3 big games where the Japanese have any problems, while the Germans are a sucker victim faction in all 3. Yes, in WoWS the Japanese suffer that curse too, but I would argue not quite as much as the Germans, because their specialties, long range guns, good HE damage, good fire chance, good stealth, good torpedoes, make them more viable than the German specialties, which are basically bad guns and being tough HP pinatas. When all the new factions get new ways of doing damage, then a faction that basically is only good at soaking up damage and not all that good at dishing out damage, is bound to get hit harder by power creep.

When I first saw the title I thought it said "Cod of War" and was thinking to myself, "I can't wait to see what Jingles has to say about 'cods' and how they relate to WoW.

The Odin is bad because it’s not Russian. Come on Jingles, you of all people should know that.

i better play Odin then Kronstadt. and you can play Donskoy or Khabarovsk, if russian ship "op".

The reason I bought the Scharnhorst back in the day was the "Scharnhorst is the best cruiser in the game" meme. Odin is pretty much the same; treat it as a brawly super-cruiser and it becomes a pretty strong ship.
@balli78364 жыл бұрын
There are many people in game looking down on clanless players. But if you look at this end result screen, a whole bunch of players with fancy clan names on both sides all sunk and dead, while the clanless MadZebra has dominated the battle and accumulated nearly 300k damage and 3.600 base XP and the Bismarck, the only survivor of the enemy team is also without a clan.
@nathanokun88014 жыл бұрын
Sounds like this ship has the WWI-era 305 mm APC shells ("Psgr.m.K. L/3,4"), not even the improved 283 mm Psgr.m.K. L/4,4 used in the SCHARNHORST Class (smaller versions of the BISMARCK-type 380 mm APC ammo).

this whole Odin thing reminds me of when the engineers and physics guys looked at the stats and concluded unequivocally pronouced that the Bumblebee was incapable of flight :) lol
@RedXlV4 жыл бұрын
That's a myth. A bumblebee would be incapable of flight *if it flew the way an airplane does.* But airplanes don't fly by flapping their wings, so that's immaterial.
@seeratlasdtyria45844 жыл бұрын
@@RedXlV BUT!!!, its such a good myth :) and with the Odin top score so far of something over 305 k or so... it's clearly not entirely "harmless" in random's and not bad at all given the current disaster that is Ranked...

Jingles, there's a good PQ17 film called "The Seventeenth Transatlantic" "Семнадцатый трансатлантический". So sad there is no subs yet, but I guess there are always books and documentaries on the topic.

You forgot to mention that the secondaries have 32 and 37mm penetration which is the same as the kerfurst but less of them. Secondary build and picking the time to go in makes them lethal even against a Massachusetts
@maxkennedy80754 жыл бұрын
So the Odin is a T8 Scharnhorst with the shell charges replaced with tissue paper?
@physixger4 жыл бұрын
Relatively low penetration for a 305mm gun AP shell can actually be quite good against cruisers giving broadside, as you don't get as many overpens. Of course, you can basically give up trying to pen BB citadel belts at most ranges, but in exchange for that you can punish Smolensks and the like. Also, the HE is kind of useful as additional fire starting potential to your secondaries. WG had to make sure this doesn't become an OP fire starting battleship, as the secondaries are the second best after Kurfürst in the German line.

We're just about to get this in Legends 😁. I do believe they described it as an upgraded Scharnhorst. 🤷

Talking about taking the wind out of my sails for me to complete the Odin Dockyard mission. Would like your opinion on how these guns would compare/perform to the Scharnhorst's 11" guns?
@steeljawX4 жыл бұрын
It seems like the Odin is like a reverse battlecruiser conceptually. Instead of BB sized guns on a CC armored ship, it's CC sized guns on a BB armored ship.....
@jagervonweebs6104 жыл бұрын
I like the Odin its defiantly a battlecruser not a true BB its fantastic for supporting a flanking manuver and its aa is good. I find its AP to work pretty well too get lots of sneaky citadels

So i've been wanting to get into this game, and I am curious about Destroyers. from what I gathered is that they should - Stay away from being detected - Capture points - Use torpedo's against battleships?

AND, each DD Captain should always look his best so as to present the best possible looking corpse....

Question! I was curious if you wouldn't just treat the Odin like a much bigger Graf Spee?
@armorhide4064 жыл бұрын
Minor nitpick, but MadZebra coulda used the right mouse button to maintain guns bearing on the Bismarck while looking at the island/cap and not lose those few seconds of them slewing back on target. But battleship reload duration makes it kinda moot

That Kitakaze from the early game could have easily been dealt with by the smolensk and oland, if odin just press his hydro earlier
@anubhavdassarma72304 жыл бұрын
Weeeeeeell the Odin's 305 alpha is pretty impressive with AP compared to other 305 mm guns More than super cruisers if all 9 shells do dmg. Just play it like a Scharnhorst And odin is not the worst battleship in the game, that honor goes to champagne becoz it has even less health and monarch because there is nothing special about it and it may get blapped easily from any angle. I do feel sorry for that Bismarck tho but he was firing HE?
@Sunnyboy-ob4xz4 жыл бұрын
Yeah its good on broadsiding cruisers, or broadsiding battleships at close range but its HE shells are bad, so if anything angles at you, you are pretty much fucked lol. For supercruisers like Azuma or Alaska they can at least do some decent damage with HE
@tomriley57904 жыл бұрын
Champagne is basically a one trick pony - long range sniping.

Hey Jingles, I believe the Odin is meant to be a battlecruiser. There is another game i play, called Azur Lane and that game has classified the Odin as such. Since Wargamming doesn't have a dedicated battlcruiser line for World of Warships, she can only be classified as a battleship.
@GIJoindividualfish4 жыл бұрын
I do really like the Odin. It does not like sending or getting any HE, but otherwise it es a very fun ship
@robertmiller56073 жыл бұрын
Orin’s AP get full pen on superstructures and I get plenty of cits on high tier BBs broadside and pretty much any cruiser. You can also fullbpen DDs with Odin. Some of my best games are in Odin and Agir. Don’t underestimate these ships you’ll regret it.
