Friederich D. Grosse actually has a similar "weakness" that the Baguette BBs have: The mainbelt doesn't extend that far into the water, allowing you to potentially slip a shell under it into the citadel, but only with BB shells that fall short, even then its not as "reliable" as against the Baguettes. (Baguette citadels are "vulnerable" even to CA and CB shells falling at around 20-30 degrees from the horizontal into the water)

I sank a Bismark not too long ago in my Amagi when it was rushing me at an angle. I just aimed at the back end of the bow hoping it wouldn't bounce and got a citadel.

The Bismarck and the Tirpitz have a flaw with their #1 turret you can cit a Bismarck and a Tirpitz through their #1 turret an any range with battleships that have guns of a caliber of 406mm and larger, and I have actally cit a brod side Bismarck at 15 km with my own Bismarck before, at one point I also cit a Kurfurst at 6 KM with my own Kurfurst yet with the previous salvo I aimed at the same spot and I only did heavy damage but the shells didn't hit where Aerroon was shooting, I was shooting at the middle of the ship, but I think that was because I fired a brod side so some shells were passing where another shell had previously pened so I think that was just a fluke, but you see what Aerroon is doing is much eaisier said than done, because most of the time they will either be bow in to you or brod side to you and there for you wouldn't be able to hit the part he is showing you

You might want to mention that when they are turning hard at full speed the citadel can be penetrated from the broadside as they tend to elevate quite a bit.

with IJN BB , you can get citadells at 15-16 km if you hit center of mass (with some lucky shoot) , good for early game damage on german BB.

Several Training sessions of 20 minutes each trying to citadel the Grosser Kurfürst, from all angles and different range using both 406mm and the 420mm: Result was only 1 citadel with the 406mm guns. Which was an angled hit from around 8 km on the front like in this video. Is this normal??

You can do this in a Montana really well and I was able to do it in the Warspite on Tirpitz and Bismark in the game as well

For some reason, shooting AP from 12 km on broadside Kurfurst works well for my Zao and Moskva. Have to aim at the bottom of the superstructure(top of hull armour). Watching the armour viewer in this video however shows the citadel laying quite deep, demanding a higher shell arc to reach it, than the Zao has. Or it pens the upper armour belt. Or most reasonably, the upper armor belt is lower in the middle part of the ship, so there can lucky citadels happen.

also in a CA you do NOT want to be close to a BB so trying to get Cits on a german at 16km is pretty hard anyways regardless of knowing where to hit

Cool - so a similar weakness like the Yamato class - you aim at the bow 45 degrees or below 60 degrees to prevent autobounce and strike the angled frontal citadel - or for German BBs with 150-220mm. Aerroon - dont you think this technique also applies to ship's - with weak frontal citadels - like British Battleships or North Carolina or low tier IJN, USN, KMS and French Battleships?

I’ve tried on a training room last night with my F Der 406 mm guns, shooting a salvo from a range of 13 or 14ish km to a Conqueror. I actually get one citadel to conqueror from that range and I’m surprised though.

Is it possible that you are actually not hitting the front citadel but the side citadel by sneaking in between citadel and Turtelback?

Possible? yes... Likely? not so much. To hit the exact spot where the shell pens the side of the citadel and misses the turtleback relies on perfect RNG, aim etc. It's incredibly hard to hit such a tiny weak spot. Far more likely the shells are just punching straight through the front of the citadel.

One time I citadel'd a kurfurst at 15km in my Minotaur. Shit was awkward as fuck. Depending on shell velocities, you can score citadels through "plunging fire", aka the shells hitting through the deck instead of the armored belt.

I think its just a case of "nobody lived long enough until now to tell the tale" ^^ All the Cits i ate in my Tirpitz came from when i was angled away and kinda long range. i think it works the same way on the backface of the citadel. Thx for the video, but gl doing that in a cruiser, that would at least be accurate enough, in a BB you probable wont hit that one salvo, after that one salvo you are on a direct collision course wich is also kinda meh :(

from that range and at this angle it is pretty much a last ditch effort to kill it. otherwise you would collide or you get citadelled to bits yourself....if not alrady dead by secondaries. nobody said you cannot citadel germans, it is just not practical close range, from long range it is similar chance if you have plunging shells which can go through the deck

felicjan123 but the training room existed for years before they officially added it in. And it was much better since you could make bots active and have aa tests or hilarious 12 minotaur vs 12 minotaur. Now the training room is absolutely shit and atrocious since all bots are inactive.

Ummm... Rushing German BBs is a valid tactic as long as you can survive the main batteries. Secondaries are really only an issue when chasing a german BB or you're in a DD. ijn BBs being second or third line are doing it wrong -.-

Actually German BBs are the ones that use the rushing tactics (unless the captain aboard them is a potato camping scrub). If you were the one rushing, make sure he/she will die as you pass by the target (nuke its weakpoint or send a full torpedo salvo at

No offence Aerroon but you failed to tell us how to citadel a German/British Battleship on its sides at close ranges... "If a German or British BB with Uber Turtleback or Colonising Underwater Citadel - Turns Torwards you, it is a citadel'able battleship" As they expose the underwater belts - which are non-existent on German BBs - allowing you completely bypass armour - striking directly into the thin 38mm torpedo bulges and 60mm citadel plating. For British BBs - it is slightly harder - you first have to go through the 220mm underwater belts (unless you aim low enough - which just pens the torp bulges and citadel) - before punching through the thin 60mm citadel plating. I've never thought that the penetration mechanics are this bad in WoWs, i mean how the hell do you penetrate with the Moskva's guns those 180-220mm thick heavily angled athwartship armor plates, the effective thickness at that angle is around 500-600mms xD after you had to pen 150mm already at the Friedrich for example, then travelling through some spacing before even reaching that abovementioned plate....LoL Btw that Kurfürst in a french camo...facepalm

It's a heavy cruiser, not even a super cruiser. The point is to accurately hit what I'm aiming for. At the time of the video I would've had to do it with a battleship from longer ranges, but they are inaccurate.
