World of Warships - Learn to Play: Tier VI German Cruiser Nürnberg

Back in early December, I joined NA Community Managers Boggzy and Ahskance for a bit of time on the official World of Warships stream to talk through the basics of playing some of the German cruiser line. The result turned out pretty well, so I'm going to share the videos of what we did on stream here for posterity, as well as expanding them to include some of the ships that we missed. First up is Tier VI's Nürnberg.
Nürnberg is the last light cruiser in the German line, and her main battery is amazing. Unfortunately, she is exceedingly fragile; all those "obligatory exploding Nürnberg" memes had to come from somewhere, right? Once you learn how to manage that fragility, though, she is capable of doing ridiculous things at ranges other mid-tier light cruisers only wish they had. In this video I'll talk about how I build my Nürnberg, why I fit her out that way, how I recommend playing her, and follow all of that up with a game demonstrating the ship in action.

One of my favorite cruisers to play along with Hindenburg..... Still need to farm Desmoines and Petro to see if I'll love them lol. I have done massive damage with this ship, it is so funny too use

I have the Konigsberg, I think both (Nurm & Konig) are basically the same ship. Konigsberg is just a little better ( my opinion). Yes, they are fragile but good cruisers & a lot of fun.

They are, essentially, the same ship. They certainly have the same play style, main battery (except reload speed), and range. Konig handles a little better; Nurn has more AA.

I think you forgot to mention the back turrets on the Konigsberg and the Nurn are both 360 traverse turrets.

Good video. Nurnberg is one of my favourite ships. It works well from just inside maximum gun range, setting fire to BB and getting out once a fire is set. On maps with plenty of cover, it can be a decent DD killer too. I don't know the stats re AAA, but it does pretty well with the right captain skills and flag.

I fell in love with these ships, I always tried to play at range early match (trying to not be the closest target). I would kite, and burn ships down, to me these two played extremely well, not always great games, some early deletions, but I played pretty consistently, and I could go 60k-80k damage most games. I would try to close the gap if I had others near me towards late game, I would try to run down other cruisers, and I would always take shots at broad side with AP if given the opportunity. Most people seemed to not consider these ships a threat, especially BB's at 10km-12km range. They would most of the time just ignore me to shot at another BB near by, they don't see the 7k-9k broadside hits coming every few seconds until its too late. You spam that upper belt on most BB's with AP, and you will get good damage. They see a light cruiser, they don't respect it, but in 20 seconds you can easily do 25k-35k damage if they don't respect your AP. I would play aggressively against BB's when given the chance to do so relatively safely, and while I might get deleted pretty quickly if I failed to successfully dodge their shells, more of then than not I did far more damage to them. Even tier 7-8 BB's especially American think their immune to your AP, they under estimate you, and before they even noticed you've chunked them for some serious damage fast. They turn away, and you burn them down while kiting.

Reasonable. I love all of the German cruisers from T5 on up for different reasons, but the heavies are definitely fun.

SeaRaptor. You are an awesome presenter. and very good and knowledgeable player. Heck! I even made me a twitch account the other week so I could drop by when you were streaming. I haven't been able to get Twitch to play your stream though . I've sat for 2 hours after the start time you told me, with your channel on, but nothing played. Irony is, I get an E-mail the day after, telling me you'd streamed and inviting me to join :D I think I'm using twitch wrong lol :D As for the Nurn. It's my favorite ship in the game. It's hard as heck to play, but once you get a handle on it, it's a pure dakka machine :D My personal damage record was done in my beloved Nurn :D :D

Sorry about the mix up! Thursdays are my regular botes night, but my "other" stream night each week can move based on my schedule. Last week I ended up doing Monday/Wednesday rather than Tuesday/Thursday. I'll be back on the regular schedule this week.

Thank you - I'm one of those players that loves playing the game but basically suck at it - I'm a complete potato but I've been trying to grind the german cruisers. Currenly averaging 20k damage in the nurnber so looking for help. Will let you know if it does. In any case you just got my sub.

Update: average damage last night 36k in Nürnberg- you’re right these are excellent kiting ships but a couple of times I went too wide and a push separated me from the rest of my team.

Fun to play . Regularly scores above her hp in damage . Kiteing away safest . H E damage by fire on b b 's most effective way to score . Rather squissy armour , so try to brawl 1 v 1 and manouver a lot to avoid taking hits . Or shoot over island cover works well . Dies quick when in cross fire situation , so be ready to kite away when spotted . Guns accurate and reload quickly with decent range for the tier . Better than atlanta for results , with similar play style . An underated ship by most opponents .
