So just gonna say like everyone else. Yes I should’ve loaded AP. I wasn’t expecting everyone to keep sailing broadside to me when they have no reason to. Too many times in this ship I would have people sail broadside and turn right as I finished loading AP. Also, was not trying to be rude to the Montana. I definitely made my mistakes but with how the game played out I figured I’d send the replay in because it was down to the wire content

Tony lecturing the Monty player in chat on how to play bbs because the guy was sailing broadside to him, but Tony can't shoot AP against said bb player he was lecturing for sailing broadside to him. And he ran into an island later. Kind of a dick move actually. (Edit: Seems that it wasn't meant to be a dick move, or perhaps a result of buzzed messaging. All good.)

literally the only reason this came down to the wire was because Tony was griefing his own team by not shooting AP. Should have ended sooner. Montana and Baltimore perfect examples. Los Andes not so much, it takes an act of congress to citadel that thing.

I agree I definitely should’ve been shooting AP. I kinda did the “if I load AP he’ll turn” mentality which obviously was a bad mentality as he never turned. I also obviously made some mistakes but was genuinely trying to inform the guy that DCPing a lone fire and sailing broadside everywhere is not how to succeed in a BB. As for the running aground. It was either that or sail head first into both remaining ships when I needed to stay alive to win. I made some mistakes this game that made it way closer than it should have been and that is my fault yes.

⁠@@iraqvet87in my experience. 99% of the time a BB takes an he broadside they turn to angle because they know a Ap broadside is coming. Pretty much, I gambled and lost multiple times because I expected him to turn as nothing was going to punish him for protecting himself better. I should’ve been smart and swapped, but I really just did the “I’ll win next time” lottery scratch off idea but in WoWs and I never won. Definitely would’ve played very differently in hindsight but it would’ve made for a rather standard match instead of a close win.

It sounded like you were rubbing his face in it, even though here in this comments section you sound like a decent person, so it could have been phrased that way due to it being in-game. I really hate the in-game chat because of the toxic stuff that happens there. It can really ruin the fun, so I generally avoid criticizing other players. Nice game and result, however. Congrats.

If you plan to just spam HE the entire match, might as well play Conqueror, it's got better HE spam and super heal. Thunderer is meant to use AP at least some of the time.

Conq has range over thunderer but less chance to make fires .... but still burns the crap out of all ships. Use what the ship is made for and you often times get great results

@@harryparks5158 less fire chance per shell but more barrels per turret which more than makes up for it I think. The main issue is less accuracy but with HE spam strategy its less important and as you said, also longer range. Thanks for the feedback!

I truly believe RNG hates me with my THUNDERER. 66% chance to set fires with HE, and I have yet to get above 12% in battles. I would really love to have his percentage.

Thunderer is my favorite ship to play. Almost guaranteed to start a fire with every salvo. I keep it mostly on HE, especially at long range, but I love surprising noobs with AP and devastating them.

I posted it on a different video about the thunderer because I didn't know anything about it, but, I got one out of a santa crate and I was like "df is a thunderer?" and after testing it for the first time in a battle I said that I was testing and apologised if I messed up majorly and that I got it in a crate and instantly got -2 karma for it in true wows community fashion lmaoo I do really like and appreciate it though. I will say aswell after watching the video, I was using AP alot at the start in my thunderer, however, I've found that its pretty difficult to cit things with it, especially other battleships; The HE is just more 'reliable' when it comes to getting damage, the shells seem to "dive" a little at mid-longer ranges and with its dispersion and lack of actual shells in the air, most of the time, even though I have to fight the urge to slam AP in the tubes, its best to just fire HE since you know most of those shells are gonna hit the superstructure. But when you DO cit, especially on cruisers, its really satisfying.

I got this ship way back when. It was a good boat. The guns are great but the armor isn't. Once they brought the range down to 24, it was over for this boat. At 28, it was special, not at 24. It's just another boat that is easy to squash. Now in 2024, eight guns boats are behind the curve. weak armor and only 8 guns doesn't work anymore. I haven't put a captain on this boat for a couple years. It's time came and went. That's kinda hard on people that paid good money for this boat in the day.

i have the thunderer for a long time and i can say that if u can not handle the shorter range u r doing something wrong. i get over 2m potential damage with mine a lot and i do brawl with it and i love watching people get upset when they find out i will come in and fight them point blank. U need to make sure u turn a lot and no sitting or going in a single direction all the time

Thunderer was never broken, it was fine before the nerfs, and now it is horrible, no one even plays it. Every ship, one in 10,000 games gets a 300k game, it is situational, not that the ship is busted.

AP is RNG HE is a constant source of damage while I do swap myself I can understand why people don't I have seen over pens galore in Thunderer at broadside targets you also have to take into account the damage HE does to AA mounts and Secondaries guns rendering ships useless.

For my part, it just seemed that he was a lucky BB player and a cocky one at that just cause he got lucky. Not a single AP shot is just a sign of a BAD bb Player, so him calling out the monty as a nab is just disgusting!

@Tony-es9jx - A lot of people's responses to your replay are just as toxic as they accuse you of having been in the game. A word from the wise. Thunderer has a quick reload. Here's how I play it. It has great concealment, so I push in reasonably deep with my DDs and have HE loaded for the first two, maybe three salvos. Just in case there is a cheeky DD spotted and it can be deleted off the map early. From then on AP is the default. IF A SHIP TURNS as I am about to unload on him, then I preselect HE for the next salvo. And when it looks like he is turning broadside, I will preselect AP again. Your excuse for using HE only is not valid because you don't have a 35 second reload... it's only a shade over 20 seconds. Secondly... NEVER berate a player after you kill him. Sore winners are worse than sore losers. No one likes to lose, so flipping out when things get bad is "normal". Sore winners show a lack of character and sportsmanship. That guy was broadside a lot...I get it. But you also only shot HE. He had no reason to turn out or angle. HE, especially 457mm HE shells, don't give a crap about any ship's angles. If you're going to play your ship in dumb mode, don't berate other for playing what looks like "dumb" to you. If you only shoot HE he can just as well just sit here and unload all his guns at you whenever he wants to and don't risk taking a turret out of the game by angling. Yes...him using DC on one fire is stupid. But only marginally more stupid than spamming HE all game. That said...the game was well played and you kept pushing while the push was on. The vast majority of Thunderer players simply unload HE from 18kms + and call it a day. This ship can have massive battle impact when you are not trying to preserve HP as if its gold dust. Get in there and get your hands dirty. You did that. And you made a good call or two when it came to crunch time.

"Nerfed hard" It only got reduced from 24 km range to a bit over 21 km range. What a harsh nerf. Absolutely destroying the ship. For goodness sake, Thunderer's OPness isn't HE slinging at 24 km and never was. If that was why it was busted, Conq has done that since release and still does it today, with same results, but a better heal. What makes Thunderer so dumb is that it also can load AP and nuke cruisers with its combination of supercruiser accuracy, 457s overmatch and dumb af concealment, while also crapping on DDs and angled BBs with HE (while on broadside BBs, unlike Conq it has Montana levels of pen and incredible accuracy, so it hits more reliably and pens more reliably). Can we please not pretend that a 3 km range nerf, leaving it still at 21 km, is a "hard" nerf?

I dont want to spoil the party, but I also have Thunderer and she highly overrated. I would even say she is way below average: She is very fragile given her high citadel, she takes forever to stop when you need too, small hp, but the biggest disappointment is her lack of starting fires, when on PAPER it is 66 percent, but I only mange 2-3 at best in a game. Are we talking about the same ship here??

Many of the times if he shoots AP instead, the enemy ship will get deleted instead of burning slowly and allow time for recovery. Like how many times enemy show full broadside and still shooting HE

HE damage, and fire damage in particular, is 100% healable. So it looks good on the scorecard but has less battle impact. Monty could have also noticed that Tony was allergic to AP in this match and not cared about sailing broadside to him. Regardless, the comment by Tony in chat was very douche-y and unnecessary.
