Hey guys, today I bring you guys a guide for Pommern, captain build and all. Also quick note here, this is how I would reccomed you play Pommern in randoms, in the current ranked sprint season, W all the way.

If you guys haven’t caught on with the build, the reason I don’t take IFHE is because the whole point of this strategy is burning the enemy down while they take the bait. Gimping your main battery fire chance to 17% and your 105s to 2.5% and 150s to 4% negates that strat. Again this is all MY OPINION and the way I run my Pommern and the rest of my German BBs with success

I thought IFHE was a waste of points. But I’m still running it to maximize the “fun” factor, although it can be less competitive. Cause without IFHE, Georgia would be a better choice, on which you can burn your enemies more fiercely, and survives longer. I play my Pommern’s secondaries mainly focusing on VERY close range battles(within 8km), while for Georgia, a bit further(above 9km)

I've been crushing Pommern in ranked with my FDG; only got 'got' once by one. playing a secondary FDG with anti-fire-anti-torp focus on the build. basically built a brawler, and have been eating the Pomms, Iowas, Georgas, other FDGs, Sov Soyuz, izumos and Musashis. Of course this build would be a mediocre build in random, too many ships, and not good enough at long range, but 3v3? this is a freaking champ. hard charge the cap, and just start brawling at

IFHE is helpful though. Most bbs are bow in to you and that usually means you NEED secondaries to pen that 32 mm bow as most of your secondaries, especially sin < 8-9km zone, will begin hitting the bow. And with that extra pen, it's helpful. You also pass the important threshold of 27mm which a lot of crusiers are covered in. So there's that. If you were to purely just go off of fire starting, georgia would be way better with it has much more accurate secondaries at longer ranges. Most of the time in pommern though, you're gonna be within that 7-9km zone. And in that 7-9km zone, no BB is gonna go broadside cause you have torps. That's why I think IFHE is basically a much better skill cause it enables you to pen the bow of almost all BBs. I've gotten a couple of my games where 80-100k of my dmg is from secondaries (not including fires). And shaving ~2% fire chance from og fire chance isn't much when you have those increase fire chance flags. So you technically only lose ~2% from the original fire chance. And german HE is garbage anyways. You can just use AP and aim superstructure/guns and deal 2-5k dmg which will then be supplemented by your secondaries firing on the bow of BBs.

I was on the fence about Pommern. I snagged 5 Kriegsmarine crates and got Pommern in the second crate. So far I’ve been loving this ship! Running a full secondary build sans IFHE.

FL far - It really depends on your play style. For me, no... I prefer the increased fire chance over the marginally increased pen possibility with the IFHE. Generally if I’m on the fence over a build , I’ll test it in a training room first and then a co-op battle or three...then decide which way I want to take it.

Got the Pommern yesterday as well as the Z-39 out of 7 containers.. Instantly went for full secondary, even putting lütjens on him ( who was before my Mainz and Hindenburg captain ). 3 games - average of 150k damage with around 420 secondary hits each game ( 1 top 1 mid 1 low tier match - gj MM ). Just INSANE... i really love it. I am kinda decent player but getting these numbers felt so easy.. and secondaries provided 50-60k damage each game ( no fires counted in ). Probably gonna go and try out IFHE on it ( Lütjens only at 14pts.) when the time comes. Thought guns with 1.5 sigma suck, but having 12 shells makes up for it and you can get some nasty salvos in. All in all...absolutely great and whats more important FUN ship to play. :D

Love the Pommern. My first coal ship. I find that my torpedo tubes rarely survive to the end of the battle, but the fact I could still use them keeps enemy battleships wary enough for me to do my work on them. Probably my favorite ship. Much prefer German battleships to the other lines.

Worth noting in the IFHE debate, there's points for either build. Taking IFHE will make the secondaries very strong vs cruisers though, as the 105s only pen 26 mm, not 27 mm and most cruisers have a lot of 27 mm these days. IFHE vs BBs is a mixed bag though of getting more pens, but less fires. vs DDs, it's virtually pointless of course. Two things to consider however with IFHE are that the fire chance also drops on the main battery guns, so while it was ok before, it is absolute trash afterwards. Given the HE damage is trash too and the accuracy ain't great, Pommern HE with IFHE is pretty much just terrible at that point. Within secondary range it won't matter, beyond, it will. Also, IFHE is a 4 point skill, so has an opportunity cost. I would consider IFHE superior if you can consistently get into secondary range without dying, while non-IFHE is if you find yourself more in mid range.

@@mrpickles15 Were it me I'd like to know. I doubt its intentional and tbh it doesn't matter too much as long as I knew what that person meant. But personally I try to pronounce words as it's done in the region. I realize its read differently but to reiterate If it were me I'd like to know. For example in Victoria AU Melbourne is pronounced as Mel-ben.

I completely get that that manual secondaries will help you get more hits on 1 target . But I find that unless you are literally engaging one target at a time the manuals cheat you from lighting multiple fires on multiple ships. In this new map mode i find that most ships rush in and being able to engage more than one ship at a time has better results than damaging one at a time. This is only MHO but my results seems to bear the fruits. I am 100 percent with you that IHFE is a no go. Yes, being able to nose pen 32mm bows is cool but 4 points can be spent better elsewhere. I ruined rank season this time in less than 4 hours and it was just wonderful. I want this mode to stay in the game permanently. True that only secondary builds will succeed in this mode but it was such fun to see gun fire going on both sides of the ship while trying to hit up closer with the main guns. It was just so so short and it was done so fast. I really want a mode like this in the game permanently .

They're different ships. Georgia is really fast, with stronk guns and can chase down cruisers. Pomm is a brawler that needs it's secondaries and torps. Your preferred play style dictates your choice

What is the point of this thing other than occasional torps. I’ll take 8 semi accurate decent penetrating 16 inch 1.8 sigma guns over 12 inaccurate and low penetrating 14 inch 1.5 sigma ones, with linear dispersion being equal. Also, secondaries more accurate on FDG than Pommern. Am I missing something?

12 15 inch guns actually. Same guns as Bismarck and Tirptiz, just slower load time and triple barreled over the old dual barrel. And so far I've ground out over 200k exp with this thing and have had great results with the main artillery. If you can stay in close you can delete even destroyers with AP by the sheer volume of shells.

Get the Kutz, it’s worth it in kremlin and the t9-t10 cruisers.

Kuz is the most broken captain in the game. getting him is always good if you play russian ships. For Pommern, it's up to you if you like the playstyle. It certainly is fun. A lot of fun. PLayed 3 battles - 1 mid 1 low 1 high tier - and averaged 150k damage and 2.7 kills with full secondary build, and i am a decent to good player. It really is fun, but I think if you dont wanna spend money / are a collector you can just play Friedrich d. Große cause they are kinda the same . :D

What about demolition expert instead of Super Intendant. I ran this in ranked. I think with Lutjens that is more valuable. 8% on 105’s and 11% on 150’s with flags. I had a great time with Pommern in ranked - it wrecked the enemies. Many games I had all three kills and had quite a few arsonist and witherer awards

Ranked is over, in random you wont profit that much from Demo Expert. 12vs12 with many people shooting HE , you might end up seeing your enemy on fire before your secondaries even started shooting. SI or even IFHE is way more profitable and useful in most of the times.

I never considered IFHE to be primarily for BB, but rather CA and some tough DDs. I'm also confused about penetration drop over range. You people all talk like HE has absolute AP values which they pen regardless of distance and angle.

IFHE is a must on Pommern an Tirpitz! It increases your secondary damage by more than half. If you have already spend 11 point purely in secondary skills, go ahead and put another 4 into it! Unlike Tirpitz Pommern will even with IFHE still set a lot of fires with her secondary, mainly her main guns suffer from taking it. (Odin does not need IFHE go full 2x4 points in secondaries, use the fifth heal (3 points) early on and use your 12k stealth (4points) to surprise enemies with the main and secondary guns out of no where! Her two big secondaries have all the pen they need without IFHE!

Average games for me: Pommern 30k main battery, 50k secondaries 10k fires, Tirpitz 50k MB, 30k secondaries 3k fires, Odin without IFHE 50k MB, 30k secondaries 5k fires. Win rate: Pommern 65% only 20 games sofar, Tirpitz 60%, Odin 70%

stigg if you are a FdG Captain with brain, you should win an encounter versus a Pommern, as long as you stay out of her torpedo range (and the RNG god does not hate you). The FdG is a great ship with more reliant guns (better sigma, good reload), often underestimated. Let the Pommern follow you and kite ;-)

I don't have it, but I certainly saw a lot of it while grinding to rank out this season. Also, I keep saying that Manual secondaries are worthless. Investing in Fire Prevention is a much better use of your points.

Exactly! You live longer so your secondaries do more damage over time. Plus being able to automatically have them target ships you might not have noticed and being able to fire off of both sides.

@@Seppe1106 I guess? My issue is that those secondaries become too accurate and smack the belt armor which just leaves shatters. Plus you can't contend with multiple targets at once. Though Maybe I'll try a captain build with Manual sec yet again and see if it makes any discernible difference.

@@wtpiv6041 when you are that close they start hitting the belt , yoj are close enough for a drive by or torps. Played 3 games in the pommern. Full secondary except ifhe ( only 14pt lütjens ) , 150k damage average with around 50% damage coming from the secondaries without fires counted in ( ~450 hits / game ). Try it. Its worth it. But be sure to not yolo in thinking youre invincible. These are the people that talk these ships bad. :D

IFHE is still better. I tried a non IFHE build, until I realized stuff like Baltimore and Hipper can tank my secondaries for non-pens. 32mm is the most important threshold in the game,, you don't need fire anymore, you just straight up pen almost everything and melt them with direct damage, not to mention this penetration damage can only be healed 50%. SInce the cruiser armour rework, most cruiser in Pommern match-making have 27 bow and deck, so you cannot penetrate that armour.

The Mainz is pronounced Mai-nz in Gernman. Not however you pronounced it. No offence given. How do I know the pronunciation? I have lived in Germany for 3 years and I am part German.

A pronunciation hint: Mainz is pronounced like Mine+z, not Main+z. ...and I have to agree, IFHE is not a skill to be used on any BB. Even on French or Japanese BB I like to build on secondaries (my choice for having fun), I would never take IFHE. 4 points for the skill better used on something different and the huge toll on the main guns fire chance are just a no go. In matches one can make good use of the secondaries, the fires started can add up the overall damage quite a lot.

The problem with Pommern and Tripitz is that they give too much for torpedos which are ultimately a gimmick. Bismark > Tripitz. Tech tree equivalent is also superior to it. Players and Wargamming greatly overvalue the usefulness and power of those torpedoes. Everyone want them, but they seem to be completely useless. Not only you have to give a little bit from every category, but in return you get crappy torpedoes who are barely of any use.

Sorry, this ship doesn't work for me. The guns suck (like all German guns), and the armor won't stop cruiser AP, much less BB AP. The first enemy salvo ALWAYS destroys my torpedo tubes.

Wow alot of mistakes in this one sadly. Telling ppl that IFHE is straight up not worth it is just wrong. I did 150k secondary dmg with IFHE because i peend enemy bbs. You are wrong about the Secondary dispersion on Pommern its exactly the same as the FDGs secondarys. Those 2 are just a 2 of the mistakes made in the video usually i like you videos alot but this one was just bad imo calling it a full guide is wrong too. You didnt talk about angeling in the Pommern too.

Ahahahhaha, No in Pommern is IFHE a important skill, cause u lose 50% of ur secondary power if u dont use it, all of ur 105mm guns are becomming useless because u cant pen not only no BBs with them, either most of the CAs. Ignore HE for the Main Guns and with enough experience u deal alot more dmg so my choose of skills are PT, PM, AR, BFT, AFT, MS and IFHE PS. my stats are at 108.838 avg dmg, 70% win rate and PR 1941 wows-numbers.com/player/559848015,VaizardXen/

Different schools of thought I guess fire Vs pen. But I'm working towards IFHE on my FDG captain right now. 3.5% Vs 6% fire chance, either way it's not a lot when reduced by the enemies ship chance of catching fire of around 50%

Funny enough I have a 70% WR in my Pommern with the setup I am running right here too. But you only have 24 battles in your Pommern, as I only have 23 in mine. WR doesn’t really mean much until you get over the 100 battle mark as (especially with today’s teams) you can get lucky and wind up on the team that rolls the enemy team most of the time. But, look if your build is working for you, great. There is also no one correct build for a ship in game. That’s the beauty of having a system like that in game. I did not present this as the ultimate Pommern build, I presented this as MY build and what has be working for me.

Yes I understand but I small clarification. 105mm guns can still pin DDs, bow and stern of cruisers and battleship's superstructure. Plus melt of the time you are 11km away so the 105s will come plunging down and will hit the superstructure, so..........??

You can play FdG and GK the very same way and lose nothing, because you can't get your torp tubes knocked out if you don't have any. No, but really, if you just don't try to go for 6 km torp rush, like in this game where it didn't offer itself, you basically can play all the German BBs T7 onward like this.

Lol good luck trying to land any shells. This is quite possibly rhe worst ship for its tier in the game. T7 guns, t5 reload times, and t3 accuracy. Huge wide unmanueverable hull that gets hammered from the start. Laughably terrible and I love fighting against them.

@Marco Franceschini nope, 150s go up to 47mm, but thats not my point. My point is everythink from 27 to 32mm. And I will give you guys quick list of what kind of these you can face in a T9 BB: 27mm: All T8+ cruisers middle deck - if they are at some range, you will land some hits there guaranteed 27mm GER+US heavy cruisers all around- yes, whole hulls 30mm: All T10 cruisers middle deck and CAs also upper middle belt, plus GER T9 Sigi & Ägir 32mm: All T8+ BBs bows and stern, plus whole hulls of FR + Brit BBs Most cruisers will try to runaway from you, you are a BB, so you try to blap them with main guns, but its also nice to have max possible raw pen on them before they can go dark. Most BBs dont wanna fight you at closerange either, but if they do and are not completly potatoes, they try to angle. And than the secondary aim mechanic comes to hand: Secondaries are aimed at middle part of the ship watterline, while the BB is angled / nose in towards you, there is very big hitratio of them on their bows - yes, 32mm bows. And last, dont forget another simple game mechanic think: normal raw dmg from AP & HE is only 50% healable ( if not citadel hit ) but firedmg is 100% healable. So if your target decides to break the engagement and get dark to heal up, he will heal up back 100% of your firedmg on him, unlike only 50% of your raw dmg you did to him. Both his build and the IFHE build are viable options... IFHE is quite strong for this ship in particular, but most of us (Sealords clan mates) don’t take it cuz we rather have the higher fire chance, which also affects the main guns... ships like pommern and Odin with smaller guns benefit from higher fire chance. It’s just a matter of opinion, we aren’t saying that yours is wrong. Sealord has been requested to make a pommern guide, so he made one, if you don’t agree then just don’t watch it...
