I feel sorry for you. I got to the GK and regret it. Should have stopped at the Bismarck, but the journey until there was awful. The Gneisenau is a disaster.

Just bear in mind they are nowhere near as nimble as Bismarck, and that GK in particular has better firing angles when angled away. There is also a certain angle where you can be citadeled through the bow at close range in german ships. The smaller guns also seem to be the weapon of choice for most people, as the bigger ones don't cross any overmatch thresholds. The big thing GK has over Bismarck and FDG is that all of her secondaries can pen 32 mm plating.

@@davidandmartinealbon3155 I think you should. The FdG grind was an absolute hell, especially the stock grind, when CVs will eat you alive. And the GK....well, the thing is so massive that you will be priority number one for HE spammers, torpedoes (and there are a lot of both), CVs and other BBs. Those great secondaries, provided you have a 19 skills captain, will be used once in a blue moon and your main guns have less range than Bismarck and also suffers from bad dispersion, way too often overpens, lowest alpha at the tier and average penetration. Bismarck, or the Tirpitz for that matter, is the best that line has to offer. I hated the Gneisenau because it has thr awful signature german dispersion and overpen without the secondaries to make up for it.

3 Things they could do to actually keep them up to date. 1. Shell fuses that are consistent and efficient. 2. Main gain accuracy improvement. 3. Armour that isn't completely useless at ranges over about 12km. Brawler Design - Great you have radar, invisible stealth ships and now subs, so getting too effective range becomes ridiculous. It's been this way for a long time, when you have a secondary build you must use your secondaries to even have a remote chance of doing great damage, otherwise you are wasting your time. Too that end any thing less than 100 secondary hits a game is a waste, good luck getting those numbers. Just to prove my self right, I'll jump in my Alabama, which is hilariously specialized for anti air. In one game without much thought I did over 80k damage, because the guns hit, because they pen and explode. - This was a tier 8 maybe with some tier 9's Match. I've been plying on and off since just before the german bb's got announced. I have tier 10 German BB's, British BB's, I can technically research the North Carolina (don't care for US tree, since I have the Alabama, tier 10 German cruisers, British Cruisers, tier 7 British DD's tier 8 Euro DD's. and a mix match of other things. - Point is, i have experience with the game.

“Shell fuses that’s consistent” German BB has standard BB fuse, with shorter fuse you wouldn’t citadel BBs, like the RN line. “Accuracy improvement” I have no problem with accuracy. The dispersion buff is enough. It’s standard now compared to other BBs “Armor that works above 12km” You’re stupid if you think that way. German BB always have the best armor in their tier except T10. Your turtleback works up way over 12km. And your deck and upper belt can easily shatter HE My most recent Bismarck game, with secondary build I rack up 117k damage. With only 81 secondary hits (19k damage). The guns definitely work. I’ve been playing German BBs all the way back when they have the stupid French dispersion. Now with the US dispersion, your guns isn’t all that inconsistent. Bismarck now literally have the same dispersion as your Alabama. With only 0.1 less sigma. Not a huge difference.

Perfect aiming on a target giving a full broadside and you'd be lucky to get half those shells to land and even luckier against to have half of those that land, armour pen the target at medium range. And then someone in a different faction lands half their 9 - 12 gun salvo and most of it pens and you loose 20k HP. Why? Because the armour is useless. I've bounced shells at point blank because armour values and angling actually works for most people. Shit I can bounce with a KGV against 16 inch guns. Unless you can actually provide video evidence that german BB's don't suck, you won't convince me their strengths make them competitive with the current game. In saying that WHEN they do pen properly, the damage is amazing and yes they can citadel, but in my experience especially of late even post dispersion buff, which I firmly believe they tinkered with again because immediately after that buff the accuracy was great, it seems more like luck than good aim when you citadel a heavy target at medium range.

Skipper German BB has standard US BB dispersion with 1,8 sigma mostly, not the best, but certainly usable, and not inaccurate like French and Italian BBs. I’m done talking when you think German BB armor is useless. That’s literally the most stupid stuff I heard, coupled with you thinking you can tank 16” AP with KGV. Your personal bias against the German BB is so strong you literally ignored facts and logic.

Another hint would be to divide the firepower if necessary. Let the secondaries chew up a ship bow tanking, while using the main guns to shoot at targets showing more broadside. It also applies for opponent cruiser. The German secondaries can deal with a cruiser on their own, while the main guns may only produce overpens. So they are better suited to deal with BB's meanwhile. At the end it depends on the circumstances and the players flexibility.

I just recently unlocked the GK about a week ago now and I have loved the German BB line. Yeah, it is not in the meta at all (especially if you run full secondary builds like I do), but it is a LOT of fun. I think some people don't expect most GK players to still run secondary builds and have switched to tank builds. I've had a few surprised comments in games when my secondaries open up at 11.6 km and start chipping damage at other BBs and setting fires. Also, with 12 guns, the GK isn't the most accurate ship in the world, but it is nowhere as bad as it used to be. It's a very fun line (especially now that the FDG had been buffed as well with dispersion like the GK) and is not a terrible thing to grind if you are interested in secondary ships. Fuck the meta, I love the secondaries and have had great success with them.

Additional tip for Tirpitz and Gneisenau: Don't bet on your torp (launchers) they are made out of paper. Also, as far as I know the smaller guns on GK actually have better pen at less than 12km.

I run a hybrid secondaries/survivability build on my GK. PM, EL, AR, SI, AFT, FP, MSC. Full secondaries modules. My avg damage and survivability rate goes way up since I changed to this build from full secondaries build. Just did a 320k match yesterday with 130k dmg in secondaries and 75k damage in fire. GK is my most played ship beside the Republique. Never enjoy playing Kremlin

That opening Bismarck run tells all you need to know about german BBs: you went in as intended, received 20k dmg and did a staggering 1.600 dmg in return. You had to spend a repair, turn away burning and dodge a full torpedo spread. The engagement ends with 32k health lost despite a repair, having dealt a total of 2.300 dmg in 5 hits. With those shitty guns, the retarded dispersion and endless HE spam, why would anyone bother with german BBs in the current meta?

The way i do it with Bismarck and FDG is that i afk or crawl in 1st gear the first minutes so everyone can get in WAY before me and then i full speed into the fray at the well damaged enemy ships from an advantageous angle if one presents itself. Some times it ends horribly but more often now do i manage to get closer to at least 70k dmg per game.

It was one BB (Bismarck) against 6 other ships. You act as if it should have been able to handle that. 1,600 damage, granted, isn’t a lot. But we saw him fire like 5 salvos. And, again, since he was entirely outmatched by sheer numbers, he had to focus on running away to avoid the engagement.

Great video of a great bunch of ships! Just wanted to comment on secondaries and IFHE. I believe the 105mm secondaries that Tirpits,Bismarck and Freidrich have pen 26 mm without IFHE. The glorious Kurfürst gets 128mm secondaries instead, bumping up the pen to 32mm. But all of the 150mm secondaries on all of these ships will pen more than 32mm. Godspeed you magnificent brawlers.

Thanks for the video. I used to play my German BB's almost exclusively a couple of years ago. They were a ton of fun. Then the Worcester was introduced, and well the age of the machine gun cruiser and destroyer came into fruition of being the meta of the game. True secondary build ships as was once common, are completely situational in the current meta. By situational, I mean: survivable if your flank is not going up against a machine gun HE spammer, or if there is, that individual is either drunk, high, stupid, or a complete and utter potato. I've found myself forced to go a more of a modified zombie build in the current meta. I would love to see some additional changes to the game to make pure secondary builds more viable other than ships set up as meme builds or that occasional just for old times sake conditions. You said it correctly with your comment, hold your fire at the beginning of the game unless you have a shot that is just too juicy. If you're spotted and in range of an HE Spammer... you will be nothing more than an HP pinata for the reds until such time as you're either burned to the keel or no longer combat effective to the point where if a sea gull craps on your deck, it's game over. I think that WeeGee did right with their decisions to buff the German BB dispersion ellipse, and the changes to IFHE. However, I still think that HE and fire as a whole are broken mechanics in the game. I'd rather play in a game with double CV's than the current heaping helping of Smolensks, Colberts, Worcesters, Harugumos, and whatever the next ridiculously over powered soviet ship they find sketched on a balled up napkin in Stalin's smoking jacket pocket. I think there is a problem with selecting manual secondaries: I just had a game in Bismark where I entered a knife fight ) Litterally 10 meters away at max with an enemy Bismark. my secondaries did something like 2900 dmg in 30 seconds of fight because the stupid manual scondaries were trying to hit the centre of the enemy ship, AKA the main belt!!! I'm tempted to drop it for fire prevention because my ships really don't do much with secondaries per game: max 10K which is irrelevant for such a focussed and crippling captain setting

HE spam is a 'thing' only because of the asinine spotting that is in the game. Hiding behind an island or in smoke because some other ship or plane can do the spotting allows the HE spammer to reign supreme. Ships spotted by another source should only show up on the mini map. This would cut down on the HE spam accuracy and the the complaint about spotting planes and CV's ruining game. If an HE spammer wants the accuracy then let them show their cowardly ass. The spotting in this game can't even be done with today's technology. The WW2 Bridge crew doesn't look out of the Bridge to see an enemy just because another friendly actually sees it. They get radio messages to plot on a chart table, not computer generated virtual reality images put on Bridge view ports to see out of the smoke or though the island as if they see target themselves. In this, the spotter gets to relay every ship, their courses, speeds, actions in real time. That's a real busy radio operator. Fix the spotting and HE spamming will go down and CV"s and their planes won't be so vilified.

You're wrong about Bismarck and FDG secondaries. Their 105mm guns can't pen 32mm armor but their 150mm guns can. IFHE is needed for those 105s to pen 32mm.

I disagree with the IFHE, if you're going to get the secondary reload module, all it's going to do is reload your guns faster just to shatter. I'd rather have my shells pen then have a 2.5% more fire chance, the fire chance isn't worth it imo. If you like brawling, you bow tank each other for a bit and if you have IFHE, it shreds their bow and that's what i like about it.

Imho from T7 onward taking Expert Marksman is a mistake on several German BBs: - Gneisenau has 36s 180° traverse, which is excellent (only high tier Soviet BBs have quicker turrets) - Bismarck, same - FdG, same as long as she takes Secondary Armament Mod 3, as you recommend - GK has slower turrets, so again EM becomes useful, but only here. If you don't take the skill, you can put one point on Priority Target and one on Fire Prevention or Concealment, instead of Basics of Survivability, which is kind of pointless if you have both Damage Control Mod 2 and equip the Dreadnought and/or Fireproof signals.

Preventative Maintenance only affects the chance of temporary incapacitation, not the health pool of the modules. Secondaries and AA mounts don't have a temporary incapacitation mechanic. If they're knocked out, they're gone for the rest of the match.

Tbh, if you want a non-premium ship line that plays aggressively, play Russian battleships. Unlike German BBs, who are meant to be played offensively on paper, Russian BBs actually get all the required tools to do so: very good concealment, their unique damage con, excellent armor protection and scheme, working main battery guns with a lot of bonuses to shell performance, good rudders and an innate resistance to fire.

Nice guide but I heavily disagree with not taking fireprevention. Sorry to say but AFT is not worth not going for fire prevention, especially with that huuuuge ship and that meta right now. Every Smolly, DesMo, CV etc. will burn you complete before you are going be in 11.3km range. Less firechance, less fires possible etc. is worth those 1km secondary range.

On my Bismarck, I go for another captain build to improve general survivability. Fire Prevention(Didn't do any fancy math if the added survivability gives me more impact than EM and BFT, but greatly increases the fun while playing Bismarck), Priority Target(Like to have that Info - enough DDs that give away when they Torp by targetting you with guns before&after) and Expert Loader(Spare point, IMHO more useful than PM) in, Preventive Maintenance (never seen my secondaries dropping significantly), Expert Marksman and BFT out (Of course, these skills would be a benefit. However, I find AR and SI superior). With modules, I also skipped secondary survivability for main gun survivability. Because again: Loss of main battery guns is in my experience more common and despite a secondary built your main source of damage.

I like German Battleships. My Build include Adrenaline Rush, BFT, AFT, Manual Secondaries and CE. I am hoping for more German Battleships. When WG split the German BB Line and release a Battlecruiser Line. Those Ships could also fight a British Battlecruiser Line Ingame.

WHy concealment module? You want to close with your enemy if you helm a German BB because the long range fight is not your thing. Once inside secondary range, you will be visible forever.

You said that all of the secondarys from Bismarck can pen 32mm without IHFE, but if I remember correctly, the 105s can "only" pen 25 or 26mm, so there "could" be a point for IFHE (if you don´t like fires^^)

I think all old BB Lines suffer in some Games with the current Meta but the German Line is the most forgiving one. I like them, the secondaries and the turtleback make the difference in late game if you get closer. Nice vid m8, greetings from Germany

IMHO if u are grinding the line its not worth it to go full Secondaries, right now i'm at FDG (406mm) and i have PT, AR, SI, FP, MS and AFT, with Rudder and reload module, and i'm loving her, as long as u dont suicide and learn how/when to push she's great, u can swing the booty to shoot all guns and PT helps to dodge Torps when Hydro is on cooldown. Now, if u just wanna have fun then go full secondaries and do that, i do that on Tirpitz and PEF (even if i dont play them that much nowadays)

It is a bit late but alot has changed, so what should i do as a gk now in a game? With the huge detectability range and short main battery firing range it is hard to not be spotted, long range i eat alot of pens and my accuracy sucks. So i have to wait to push until the enemy destroyer is dead but having potato dds in at least 50% of the games where they are either afk, travel to the corner of the map to get behind enemy lines, or smoking in next to our battleships without spotting the enemy dd survives normally until i am burned to the ground by conqueror, thunderer or light cruisers like smolensk or torped from behind by enemy dds. Should the enemy dd die thx to a miracle i still have to face enemy bbs camping at 25km distance with cruisers with torps halfway there... I feel like the chance to really use your secondaries nowadays is very situational

The Guns of the Bismarck are literally the worst. Even at close range, penetrating hits that deal no damage, idiotic dispersion from even less than 10km and citadel hits are rare. Since the German gun buff the F der Großße is much better even with the worse firing angles than Bismarck. I have very good games with it and I love that thing. And they also should do something about the overpen mania with Battleships, sometimes it can be absolutely ridiculous.

The main guns are actually really accurate if u build it for a hybrid build (gk u can get away with out it ) my max cit is with fdg she is a monster for cits 15 cits in 1 game with a accuracy/secoundary build makes her vary strong 245m dispersment is low for a bb and she gets great disperment. They are best as a hybrid build right now so u can do long range shots but still push and brawl when u get a chance

I'm just stuck on the Freddy. The few games I have played in this thing is comparable to the French BB Lyon, but at tier 9. The Bismark was great for its class and can play well when up tiered, but the Freddy is just a pain to play. Any tips?

For me the German BBs have been huge ups and downs. Either I had terrible games (most of the time) or great games with lots of fun. Sadly the terrible games are a huge motivation killer when you jump in a game with your GK and get HE spammed/torped/CVed to death and only do 30k dmg cause your guns just go all over the place, even with the accuracy buff. German ships can be fun but thanks to Wargaming they are often an utter frustration to play

Its ok i like a hybrid build better 9.7km secondary and a accuracy build for them. Gk is the only one i build for full secoundarys but the others not really. Love fdg 245m dispersment is a monster with 420 guns great for citing every thing and i get more utility out of it if im unable to push which is 90% of games

hei Mount, no shit! yesterday with my GK, yet my favorite BB. I did at 15km 37k to an enemy GK. 9 PENs, 11 out of 12 connected.

The intro thing with the BB's sailing sort of looks rushed, maybe part of that has to do with the fact you used the same positions and maneuvers as with the american BB's. It also looks kind of janky, maybe recording messed up? Or maybe it has to do with the camera angles you chose ( a bit more top down view where with the US BB vid. the camera was closer to the water)? Amazing you did it nonetheless but maybe with next BB review you do take those things into consideration. And i'm sorry i don't want to sound rude, just useful feedback :)

Yeah I was trying a couple of different camera angles than with the US BBs. We were also sticking with the formations and maneuvers that we were used to. I actually had more footage of the training maneuvers but unfortunately lost it. But thanks for the criticism!

In the current meta of the game, one has to wonder what even is the point of playing German BBs anymore? Even if you have a team that's willing to push with you that's only good enough if they're able to hit or focus on anything. Plus WG keep coming out with HE spam cruisers and the Soviet ships that can tank better than the Germans and better guns... what even is the point... I feel like the GK has been power crept or at least that's what it feels like whenever I play the GK...

To be honest, German BBs are more effective when playing with survivability/stealth builds. The secondary build is much more fun, it's true, but any serious mistake - and you go down, or lose too much HP to be effective in later game. WoWs now has a serious "crisis of attack" - it is too dangerous and unprofitable to push, to lead the charge. Until this is fixed - secondary guns builds are only effective against stupid people. Any skilled player just won't go into secondary range, he will simply kite and HE spam you to death.

3:05, first skill, first error, preventive maintenance does not apply to secondaries and AA guns. 6:50 second error: Only GK and Odin have all secondaries that can pin 32 mm armor because the smaller caliber secondary guns are 128 instead of Bismarck's, Tirpitz's and FDG's 105mm which can pin only 26 mm. So on the latter cited ships you rely only on the 155 to pen 32mm armor. 14:40 the only russian ships to have improved pen angles are russian heavy cruisers, and the improvement on their angles is (luckly) minimal, far from the US heavy cruisers. 24:42 that depends, when you go in brawling, you and your enemies will certainly use island cover, cruisers spamming he behind islands/firing in smoke. I find it more useful to have spotter not because of range but because of the vision, even if germans have fast shells with flat ballistics i can still lob some shells, have a better vision of a ship coming out behind an island... Another thing, as you said you wanna be brawling but never stop moving and bow-taking, so in slot 3 modules, at least for all the ships that come before FDG (FDG and GK are just too big in my opinion for this to work) get rudder module instead of reduced fire duration module because you want to out-manoeuvre ships, torps and other BBs' guns. Generally fire prevention + fire flag or at least basics of survivability + fire flag should be ok for brawling, because you're not standing still bow-tanking, inducing others to spam HE on you, in brawling you're gonna eat much more pen damage.

You have to be in the correct situation in order to brawl, in the first match the team had abandoned that flank and I was caught out in the open. Second match everything lined up and GK got to shine. Third match, too many ships to push into, but I managed to stay in secondary range and had a good match.

If you are using main guns as your main focus, then yes. It boosts your main battery reload. If you want faster main battery guns plus some boost to your secondaries, then yes. If you are going full secondary mode, then no because it gimps you by 5% rate of fire. Hope this helps!

I know I tried IFHE when grinding the FdG and the damage output of my secondaries increased massively. In some battles I'd get like 80k-90k damage with secondaries alone. Then I spent commander XP to respec my captain and I am lucky when I achieve 20k with secondaries. As for not taking early shots or picking concealment....there is just one problem with that: Carriers. Not only they will spot you early in the game but will also keep you lit forever. Carriers erase any attempt of positioning and trying to be stealthy in the game. It completely dumbs down the game. German BB can be fun, but the trade off for your "useful" secondaries are not worth it. Having awful accuracy and too many overpens for a gimmick that requires you a 19 points captain and forget about survivability is just not worth it. German secondaries should have Manual Fire dispersion by default to make them semi viable.

Anthrax man this IFHE not being necessary thing isn’t a personal opinion. It’s completely objective. If you were doing bad without IFHE on your secondaries that just means you were doing something wrong because if you’re not fighting an American bb, penetrating the 38mm threshold is completely useless.

@@liamfreeman1812on the FDG and Bismarck not all the secondary guns can pen 32 mm base because of the 105 mm guns on the Gneisenau and GK the secondaries are 128mm and can pen 32mm base so on FDG and Bismarck IFHE is a viable option to improve your secondaries especially since the smaller caliber guns fire almost twice as fast as the 150 mm guns and there are more of the smaller caliber guns increasing the potential DPM massively but obviously you lose the fire chance so one must pick fire damage with small damage amounts from the 150 mm guns or more actual damage from secondaries with less potential for fire damage.

Chris Fisher even so, the loss of fire chance is too big and the benefit is too small to take IFHE. Most t8 and above bbs have a 32 mm nose but the deck is thicker. Getting IFHE won’t suddenly mean your ship can pen everywhere and on other German and Russian bbs you’d still only mostly be penning the superstructure. Fires will give you more dmg than the secondaires will when fighting bbs and you don’t really need IFHE when fighting cruisers. Not taking IFHE makes even more sense if you’re grinding the German bbs and will be using that captain on the kurfurst. You would easily be getting more dmg without IFHE with double the fire chance even if you can’t pen bb noses. And if we’re talking pure dmg anyway, you wouldn’t even go for a full secondary build. You’d go tank instead.

@@liamfreeman1812 That is such bull. Fire chance you gain from not speccing IFHE is what you lose on shatters. Majority of the dpm on secondaries comes from 105mm. And most hightier ships you face at t9 have 27-32mm plating in most places. Especially cruisers.

Great guide :) still the German BBs suffer heavily from the current meta. Worst part is having a completely passive team that will under no circumstances take advantage of breakthroughs or numerical superiority. There isn't much you can do except accept a mediocre result. Doing 100k bowtanking at 30km is nice and all but losing the match because you we're essentially behind the red line and didn't cap, not so much. Long story short: good video, german BBs fun but not meta
